Reboot your TouchPad 10

by Adam Marks Wed, 27 Jul 2011 3:09 pm EDT

There are always times when you need to reboot your TouchPad, but you will quickly realize that many of the same ways that you rebooted your webOS phone are no longer available to you without a physical keyboard, the ringer switch, or even a removable battery that you can pull. In fact, even the power menu that pops up when you press-and-hold the power button no longer has a reboot option. In order to reboot your Touchpad, you will need to perform one of the following steps:

  1. Open the Device Info app, scroll down to the bottom of the screen, select "Reset Options" and then "Restart"
  2. Some homebrew apps like Internalz Pro or Preware offers in-app options to perform Luna and/or full Device reboots
  3. Jason Robitaille's "Advanced Reset Options" patch in Preware will add both Device and Luna Restart options to the power menu that appears when you press-and-hold the device's power button for 5-7 seconds
  4. As a last resort, if you have a frozen device or are unable to use one of the steps above, you can press the device's home button and power button together for about 15 seconds to perform a hard reboot. This is the closest equivilent to doing a battery pull on phones.

I am digging the advanced reset option. It looks better than the normal reset window. I like the different colors too.

Good stuff Canuck!

As far as option# 4 above I find that it's the power + home button + volume up key all at the same time. Sorta like the TP equivalent of ctrl atl del

Nope. You just need Power + Home for 15 seconds. Holding Power up during the reboot can put you into forced USB mode for WebOS Doctoring. Not exactly what you want.

Thanks sacherjj! I accidentally pressed either the power up button or the home button during startup or both, I don't remember, but I ended up in the forced USB mode -- a big shining USB icon. I thought I had bricked my touchpad! What a relief!

When/how often should we reboot?

After I have installed a dozen apps, I find I have to reboot quite often now. Every few days. Otherwise angrybird won't launch.

Tried all these "reboot", can't update to version 3.0.2 still showing version 3.0.0 is the SERVER down?

have Advanced Reset options installed and yet pressing power still only shows Aeroplane mode, Shutdown or cancel options?

I stupidly installed the German version (which seemed to work) and when I realized, uninstalled it and rebooted my Touchpad.

Then I went to install the English version. When I did I got the following error in the IPKG log and have no clue what it means or how to correct the situation. I would appreciate any suggestions - you can email me directly at

-1: Unable to run command: /usr/bin/curl -s -I --user-agent Preware --location --fail --show-error 2>&1
curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404

I tried to install the Systools Manager by itself using Preware and got the same message.

After doing more research on this site, I figured out that I could install Systools Manager using WebOS Quick Install. Since I had earlier installed Preware, I had all the tools I needed - downloaded Systools and installed it. Then I went back to Preware and installed the English version of Advanced Reset - did the trick :-))

Thanks to everyone for all the valuable information on this site.

Touchpad, runing android 4.4.4, screen appeared dead. Charging, pressing power or home key did not do anything to revive the screen. Did the hardware reset, powe+home for ~20sec, revived the screen. :)

Thanks for the tips.
