Interested in winning the next Palm device (whatever it may be)? Then consider this a reminder to kick your keister into gear and get that mock-up you’ve been pondering finished and into our inbox. You’ve got until midnight Eastern time on October 15th to get in your entries, and in spite of the leaks we’ve seen recently, we still want you to be exercise your creative juices and get us something unique. So get in your entries, we’ll dig out the best and put it all to a vote to decide who wins the next device (with two more getting a $50 PreCentral store gift certificate).
Above is a sliver of some of our favorites thus far - it was hard to pick, we've received a lot of fantastic entries and there's still time left! After the break check out a few of the above entries in more detail.

I don't think these should have been shown until competition day. It gives them an unfair advantage. Well.... I guess if I do good enough then it really wouldn't matter. By the way, how many are going to be entered into the competition and is it going to be an elimination or just the three that get the most votes win, period?

Im gonna be honest all I want out of my next HPalm phone is webos 2.0 with a big fuggin screen... and preferably a hardware keyboard too :)

jamie's render is a bit ugly but i do like the idea. may be palm can produce something simlar? set it on the touchstone and have a video chat thru skype? aaahh :)
why would u want to rotate the screen that way, when you have an accelerometer.
So you can have access to the keyboard while viewing apps in landscape mode. This would work nicely for web pages. Also using emulators such as VBA and SuperNES would be fantastic with this type of device.
So you can have both a portrait and landscape hardware keyboard.
i was able to do that with my previous pre, i believe people called it the oreo effect... lol
as a joke I was just gonna send in a picture of current palm device....turns out I would have nailed it! Lol

Verox you've got the idea nailed!!!....Thats It!!!!...The Palm watch is something to behold!!..and the phone?!?!?!....Damn!! It will be real interesting to see how Palm goes about with the final designs for all the webOS products coming and I think Verox has it!! The leaks about the Touchstone using the same backing on the new phone may be the telling of the new phone but using Verox phone we could still use our current Touchstones if no clearance issues with setting the phone on it would happen. The R1 is sweet also but need to see the phone open if there is a physical keyboard

Does the winner get the palm 2 that was leaked or the new palm device of their choice. I am personally hoping something better comes along. Something like one of these devices.

I can't wait to see the all of the entrees. All of these are fantastic. Of the ones i've seen, Verox's and jamies are my favorite. That rotating screen would be perfect right now as I type this from my Pre (Using the awsome Precentral News Beta BTW).
R1's pretty sick too!... This is gonna be difficult.
Love the R1, just because it comes out of left field and gives us a new Model. Although Virox shows how the Pre 2 could have been Spec'd up. Remember though, we have yet to see all the spes on the Pre 2!! May have some surprises...

The original contest says "The entry that receives the most votes will be awarded with whatever device Palm releases next, be it a smartphone, tablet, or toaster." So, you may have to switch carriers if you win it.
Derek Kessler, why do you have the last day of the mock up on October 15? Do you know something we don't know? Are you hiding something from us? Did they make you sign the NDA? Lol jk
My power button got stuck today, my usb door is mia, and it keeps switching from bluetooth to speaker and then to a headset when I don't have one attached. I'm on my 3rd Pre since launch and I don't want to get a refurb. :( Especially, with all the customization and apps put into it.
The Virox mock up has won my heart... :)

actually had the same idea as jamie, making the oreo on purpose this time.
This is good stuff. A silly question -- why aren't we seeing hardware that's *better* than the iPhone? The only way to get people to notice H/Palm's new devices is to bring in another game-changer (or at least: be the best for a while). I see 640 x 960 resolution ... why not sharper/better? Also -- why aren't there any units with a SD or Micro-SD slot inside where the battery housing & SIM card are (most people want more storage & probably would survive a less-than-easy access to the reader).
A few other random thoughts:
-Virox: Your WebOS watch would be even better if it could sit on a touchstone.
-PalmPad: With all that physical screen space: I'd think 1080p resolution would be a bare minimum (vs. 640 x 960).

I like Jamie's idea, but there needs to be a gesture area available when the screen is rotated. Maybe have the screen a little higher and have a gesture area above the keyboard.
Me, too, if it can be done with decent build quality. Don't mind the gesture area on the side in landscape though, not hard to work. I think having two apps side by side would be awesome!!
Ok...after careful reconsideration....the r1 is a beast if it's a qwertyless phone..but with the physicall...I want all 3 from virox...Period!...palm/Hp..just pay da man/woman and make it happen..u got the bluprint right there...shout out to Jamies to..the utility of the phone is sweet!
I like Virox Pre 2. Plus the watch is a great idea. Imagine GPS on your motorcycle without having to install a dock on the handlebars!!! Very Cool!
But don't stop at the watch, where's the toaster?

I'm really digging the creativity. I'm thinking a few too many moving parts on Jamie's, but I fully dig where Virox went with a Palm Line up. R1 is sweet too but I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard-less slab.

I have to say im loving the notifications design for the R1, not keen on the phone shape, looks kinda boring but loving the rotating palm face design lol, this guy is onto something. As already posted Palm should be taking these concepts seriously.
Is it just me or does the R1 look like the original Blackberry Storm? Doesn't mean its bad just sayin.
R1, all I can say is WOW! I was speechless when first I saw it. If Palm would release something like that I would line up to get one!

I love Jamie's that is exactly what I want. I would love to be in landscape and still use one hand to type and I would love to go up to all the iphone and google users and sy can your phone do this.
I feel like the gesture area on the R1 may not be as useful as on the Pre form. I mean, the reason I love it is because my thumb is naturally in that area with the keyboard out. With a slab, I doubt my thumb would ever naturally be in that area.
