To close out our series of the Staff Picks for our Tips of the Day, we have our Editor-in-chief Dieter Bohn present us with his top picks. Interestingly enough, all but one of his favorites has already been covered by one of our previous staff members, but no single person has more than one of Dieter's. So, Dieter's picks are quite well rounded and well represented among all the various writers on staff. Without further ado, here are Dieter's favorites:
- Change alert sound for your Email account
- Set a unique alert/ringtone sound for each of your email accounts, so you always know which account has just received new mail
- Facebook: the top bar
- Explore the header bar of the Facebook app to learn how to quickly navigate to anywhere in the app
- Making your web bookmark/launcher icon look good
- Have you added a website as an icon on your launcher? This will show you have to make those icons looks nice!
- Tab between fields using the keyboard
- Another missing feature that a D-Pad provides was the ability to tab between text different fields. While this feature still does not exist for the browser, using the Shift (
) and Enter (
) keys will allow you to tab between fields in many stock and 3rd party apps
- Another missing feature that a D-Pad provides was the ability to tab between text different fields. While this feature still does not exist for the browser, using the Shift (
- Why you should banish your phone icon from the quick launch bar
- The Phone app is defaulted as one of your only 4 apps you can put on you Quick Launch bar, but it should also be the first you move off of it. Between Universal Search, calling a contact from within a Messaging conversation, and a slew of other options to call a contact, there should rarely need to actually launch the phone app.

Missing TAB on the browser is one of my big hates. I hope they have fixed this on 2.1.
At first I thought the headline was that the staff had picked Dieter, which would be the obvious choice anyway so like where's the news in that headline but then I realized...
I personally having the phone icon on the click launch bar for the option to look at recent call history. In a lot of cases I can make my desired call even more quickly than with Universal Search. I personally moved contacts first because it's the same as using Universal Search. Who wants to scroll through possibly over 1000 contacts when most are facebook friends with no phone number saved. I also removed the calendar app. The only reason I kept that was to see the date once my device was unlocked. Thanks to the patch to add the date to the top, I no longer have the calendar there. I now have those two icons replaced with messaging and internet respectlively and love it.
personally *like* having
+ Derecuda on phone & call history.
+1 that is
