Rumor: Eos/Pixie on hold pending Pre results 13

Palm Eos Render Bear with me here. We’re not entirely sure what TechCrunch’s problem with Palm is, but they’re still talking about Palm and have some new information on the Eos (codename: Pixie). According to Michael Arrington of TechCrunch, the Eos is being reevaluated by Palm:

Our sources in Asia tell us that Palm continues to push development of the device but is far from making a launch decision. “Palm has decided to put the Pixie on hold until they have better visibility into how its current models are selling in the market.”

Pardon me, but DUH! Of course Palm is both pushing ahead with the Eos and simultaneously monitoring the reception to the Pre and making changes in reaction. The Pre and webOS are brand new systems, as any company will do with something new, they’re going to wait and see what the customers think before forcing round two out the door. Arrington attempts to spin the supposed ‘delay’ of the unannounced handset as reaction to the Pre’s “low sales rate,” even though the darned thing is practically sold-out nationwide. Give me a break, by all practical measures, this launch went as well as Palm and Sprint could have hoped, especially with the new iPhone launch right around the corner.

"Screw you, Michael Arrington!!" (this quote has been edited for content :-) )

Anyone who says "low sales rate" for the launch of the Pre has lost all credibility. They clearly don't know what is going on.

Has it been a perfect launch? Uh, no. Way better than Storm though and the Storm sold fairly well. The Pre has sold as well as it could considering most stores still have a wait list for next week's shipments. Exactly how could it have sold more?

Mike is pissed because Palm promised a Pre for him to review and he never got one.

How is Palm going to measure how well the Pre IS doing when they have not made the SDK public? There are a lot of developers (myself included) who could have had a hand in how well the Palm Pre did at launch. Palm missed the boat on this one.

The SDK will be out soon. But in the meanwhile, Palm has plenty of metrics to measure launch success: number of units sold, number of apps downloaded, articles in the press, etc.
Also, I've noticed Sprint is actually advertising this phone on TV for a change :)

Still, I think Arrington is being VERY unprofessional as he is letting his personal grudge interfere with his objectivity. TechCrunch fail!!

"We

I know this is coming from TechCruch, but I can't help to notice that it's Gizmodo the one giving huge visibility of such "news" (weren't for Gizmodo, hardly we would even be talking about this)... It is clear to me the "giz"-guys have an agenda to point out every single negative comment (real or not) that can be said in regards the PRE. (am I the only one noticing this?)

no you're not the only one who noticed this i did too.. Giz guys are haters hand down.. remember Pre cuts the cheese video? Its stupid for them they just lose credibility.. If you're gonna be a good tech blog you should be objective and impartial. That being Said the Pre has its Pros and Cons i dont see why they insist on bashing it even at its strong points.. oh and Mike Arrington is a Prick..

since the pre is sold-out, the sales rate couldn't have been any higher. apple-fanboys will say that's a poor excuse for selling less then the iPhone, but we're talking reality here. if you ship 100.000 phones, and you sell them all, how can that be disappointing enough to delay a second webos device?

I personally think I would like the Eos/Pixie a little better than the Pre. I have never been a real fan of slider phones. To me the Eos/Pixie is the evolution of the Palm OS based Treo phones. I know my T|C is in need of replacement and my iPhone just won't cut it as a replacement.

Engadget is not anti Pre Both Josh Topolsky and Ryan Block like it.

Arrington is a major d-bag who so PO'ed Leo Laporte on last week's "Gilmore Gang" show that Leo unleashed some shocking profanity and shut the taping down on the spot. (Search YouTube for "Leo blows up" for the video.) For some reason, Leo ended up apologizing to Mike, but Arrington revealed himself to be an unprofessional, sore loser, troll.

Just as the Inquirer can't stop hating on nVidia, Mike has an axe to grind against Palm because the po' widdle baby didn't get a free phone. Loser. Palm could succeed so wildly with the Pre that they end up buying Apple and Mike would still be doing his Baghdad Bob act and dogging Palm.

Arrington is a jerk. Period.

Laporte has been around a while (I remember educating Leo on the difference between steaming mp3 vs. ripping mp3s back in 1998, but that's another story.). He suffers fools poorly.

Arrington really ticked him off. Leo lost his cool, and did the obligatory apology, but bottom line is Arrington should go back to beating off to Mr. Skin. His Palm whining gets very old; almost like MS vs Apple crap.

He wanted a free phone because of his inflated sense of self importance. Guess what Mike? No one cares about you. Yes, Palm sucked for many years...but now, thanks to Elevation Partners, they are changing things.

Does anyone "in the know" read TechCrunch? He claims he was talking about Facebook before everyone else...uh, ya, right...sure. Lie.

Arrington is the perfect example of someone who got lucky in the right place, right time, and made a ton of internet money without having any real talent. That money allows one to pontificate all day long, as if your opinion really matters. As Homer says "Boooooring".
