Rumor: Palm Pre successor to hit Verizon in October? 186

by Dieter Bohn Tue, 17 Aug 2010 11:59 am EDT

Phone Arena, who has a fairly decent track record when it comes to Verizon info, has anonymous info suggesting a "Palm Pre 2" could be on deck in the October timeframe:

Our source indicates that we might see the Palm Pre 2 doing its thing at this time, however, every bit of info regarding this possible successor seems to be held pretty tightly right now.

Given the dearth of rumors and hints out there right now, it's a little difficult to say how much confidence we have in the rumor - thin stock of the Pre Plus online notwithstanding. Then again, we did see the (possibly faked) "Roadrunner" running webOS 2.0 pop up in an app log last week.

Either you think these are the early signs of a potential new Palm device or you think people have been staring at the rumor noise so long they have convinced themselves there's a pattern in there. So: do you want to believe?

It would be so NOT FAIR if Verizon got the Pre2 before Sprint got the Plus!!!!!!

o man why are people still wineing about the pre plus, who cares. It does nothing different then yr pre, other than more memory.

Agreed I am so far beyond the Plus - who cares. It is new hardware/software or bust for me. Why would I pay another 200 for the same device i already have with mobile hotspot (which Sprint would charge for) and more memory. Use Zumodrive and give yourself 2 more gigs for free and be happy. Call me a cheapskate, but not seeing the value in it.

One word: TMC. You can't fix that with an external drive. I will say, however, since I installed Uberkernel, I haven't gotten any more TMC errors.

Nevertheless, I still want Sprint to get the Pre2 no later than anyone else! I mean, come on!

er, my tether still works on my sprint Palm Pre & it's free

actually pre plus is MUCH better

Yeah, I'll be extremely mad if Sprint doesn't get the next webOS phone!!!

I agree, we Sprint users have our support and money from the start. I even switch from Alltel to Sprint. I will not switch back to Verizon. I would be upset if we did not also get the new hardware from the start. I can understand that Verizon is big, but there is not reason to make an exclusive deal.

OK OK. Let's calm DOWN Sprint users. To be 100% honest, I actually want Verizon to get the next Palm device first. Let them deal with all the major hardware problems first then Palm will correct them and we Sprint users will get 2nd generation hardware which is usually better. (ex. Pre-Pre Plus) Just as long as Sprint gets the new phone within three months of Verizon getting it.

Yep, we loyal Day 1 Sprint early adopters have waited around the longest and are in DIRE need of some new hardware. If Verizon gets something this year and Sprint does not, I'll just be furious!

+1

Dont worry, Sprint will be day one.

VZ has no customers for the next device since all of their Palm buyers are just 7 months into a new contract and have to go nearly two years for upgrade.

VZ has a history of bait-switch, moving Palm prospective buyers to droid-of-the-week. So putting all the Palm eggs in the VZ basket would be suicide.

Palm's most loyal buyers are on Sprint and nearly all are elligible for an upgrade and have been waiting for a complete device for 18 months now.

So, yes, if HP somehow decided to let VZ have some sort of headstart on Sprint, it will probably cost them their most loyal supporters. I'd be gone, flat out, and I dont even know what device I'd go to, but I'd be in the Sprint store the same day that sort of announcement comes out and I'd be hawking my touchstones and Day Three device and dozen data cables the next day on Ebay.

AT&T users who went with the Pre Plus are also very loyal, which is why AT&T sold more Pre Pluses than Verizon. We have been getting friends and family to grab a Pre Plus over on this side as well, and many would be willing to pay the ETF to get the next WebOS device if it has the larger screen as well as physical keyboard.

sorry, misread

It's OK, we all do it. ;-)

Sprint and Palm's terrible marketing is why Palm got bought out and this company almost went under. If you can't handle the truth then fucking get lost dude! Going with Sprint as the launch partner nearly buried and killed Palm, and going with Verizon with the next phone AND Sprint later is the smart move.

You can't expect to sell phones with a company that is loosing 10's of thousands of customers a month. Verizon is the place to be.

Go get yourself a Pre Plus like I did. You'll love life more than you do. Trust me.

-1

That doesn't make sense. By your own admission in order to get a Pre Plus one would have to sign up with either AT&T or Verizon, who both suck.

You should see the poor quality of service in many places around where I live from Sprint. I COULD NOT go Sprint where I live due to holes in the coverage. That is the problem that Sprint continues to have, that the coverage area is smaller than AT&T and Verizon.

AT&T may have problems, but the coverage area is better than Sprint where I live.

-1

The Pre had major issues right out of the gate when they couldn't meet demans, on top of having a 6 month runup from announcement to launch day. Sprint and Palm both dropped the ball on marketing, but Verizon's launch was even worse. They're too heavily invested in Android to talk a Palm launch seriously.

Uh... Sprint added customers last quarter.

We had the phone well before VZW customers could, so we should get the upgrade at least a month before.

Wow, imgreenlantern2, you really need to switch to decaf. I'm with Sprint, and have been for nearly 10 years, 'cause they have the best deal for what I need. Sheesh!

-1 greenlantern, you're one half of a brain short of half of a brain. Most of Spints customer churn was the Nextel side of the business. And quite a few of their departures arrived at their prepay program. Sprint has always been the home of the more progressive smart phone users. VZ has a place in the market for sure, but that doesn't mean their the best service. There are a lot of people settling for McDonald hamburgers and paying the idiot tax of a VZ contract with lesser services.

You want fries with that Pre Plus?

Damn!

your reasoning retarded

Screw the plus but IF Palm is considering such a disrespectful move against use original Pre owners, those of supported the company since January of last year and much longer than that, I will be sorely pissed! I mean comeon Palm if are going to show any love with new hardware anytime soon that it needs to be to us original Pre owners!

But I guess with HP it may just be the bottom line that is most concerning... which I understand, hey atleast VERIZON does know how to sale a phone... Stupid Sprint marketing team....

I doubt if we need plus. Sprint guy told me last week that they will be getting a new palm device w/ a newer web os system. Next couple months but no date.

I have a feeling that the pre's launch will be very similar to the galaxy s.... the good versions launch first on other carriers, and than palm will announce the bigger and better 4g version on sprint... I am also guessing it will be a normal sized touchscreen only device considering the fact, that's the only form factor sprint doesn't have in a 4g flavor...

I mean in my eyes sprints 4g brand is in competition with verizons droid brand at the moment. I could definitely be wrong... I really don't care, I just want the next palm device.

AT&T??? PLEASE?!

HP better comes out with new phones and software or I will move to Android the next possibility I have. To be in the cell phone game you can't let your costumer wait forever (which is more then one year in today's terms) for new software or phones. And btw, why does Verizon is holing back on the update?

I hope the call it the Palm Predroid.

It'll be called the HP iPrePAQ.

(completely pulled that one out of my "donkey")

Palm Perfet/Palm Victory (According to webster the palm leaf is the a symbol of victory.)

If this phone is as awsome as it needs to be then these names will be almost poetic.

Palm Perfect has a good ring to it.. I like it.

dont call it Pre II.. you only make a sequel when the first one does good... I love the pre, but it was not succeessful.. so dont call it PRE II..

Should be the Palm Pheonix. Think about the ad campaign for that! Would be a perfect rebirth name for a new device to pull them from the ashes of obscurity!

It might come off as anti-immigrant though ;)

well, the sprint rumor is september and now the verizon rumor is october,,i can seeing this all happening.

sprint is getting it, just ordered an advanced exchange for a blown speaker and asked if the next palm phone will be 4g and the rep said 'you know I can't say anything till next month' lol

I dealt w/Sprint customer service to order an Epic for my nephew just the other day & I asked about the Pre 2. He said "Sorry, we have been told Palm is going out of business." He didn't even know Palm had been bought by HP! Now, I dealt w/another Rep the next day who said they had no info, but she was also waiting as she was a Pre owner &, like me, loved our phone.

My girlfriend got a similar response from a Sprint rep, who said he wouldn't recommend a Pre because of Palm's uncertain future. Man, if he kept up on the news, he'd be telling customers to wait a month for the new hotness.

CSR's and the polo shirts in the stores, they're high school grads, making minimum wage, that dont give a rat tail about advanced phones. It's just a job, and they're not privy to Palm or carrier marketing plans. Its funny when posters here believe that the public face of wireless carriers have some sort of PHD in Wireless technology and go home and root each device for the kicks.

Not usually the case, these guys and gals are just kids and usually have as much enthusiasm for wireless tech as burger flippers do about cooking. More than once, while talking to one and they glance at a POS dumb-phone on another network for their latest text message during working hours, I ask about the competing handset their holding; "I'm on my mom's account, can't beat free, you know?". I just smirk and nod.

ya I had a similar weird Sprint incident last night. Called about internet in my area acting screwy seeing if there were server issues in my area and me and the tech got onto the subject of phones and I mentioned my WebOS device may be slightly behind the curve but the OS made it worth hanging on just a little longer for a new device.. Mentioned my lady just got the Samsung Vibrant at T-mobile and if the Epic was anyting like that it would be tempting or just sliding over to an Evo... The tech told me how much they liked WebOS over Android OS and not to switch just yet.. They stopped abruptly then quickly ushered me off the phone when I inquired about a 4G WebOS device in the near future. Almost like a person running to their car saying no comment to paparazzi.

I've never had them do that to me when talking about new WebOS device news. I hung up the phone thinking "wow Sprint never has ushered me off that fast before.. What was that about?" they either know something and have some kind of confidentiality thing going on or just I had bad breath... Dang coffee.. Lol

That must have been some particularly bad breath for it to have transmitted over the phone :-P

I know right? Coffee and smokes.... And I lost my breath mints lol

Please stop with these lame sightings...Woo hoo! My phone was in a TV show! My last phone (Helio Ocean) was in Keeping up with the Kardasians which the old Heliocity website touted. Helio - dead...website - dead...See a pattern here?

I really liked my Helio Ocean! Switched to a BB and thought...what's the big deal?

vajayjay, pls stay on topic if you're gonna be premenstrual and moan.

With the money of HP behind, I think they no longer need a carrier exclusivity. Palm did that because they didn't have the money to advertise it well, but now with HP's money they can launch the new Palm phone in the three carriers and pay themselves the advertisement.

I was wondering this same thing if HP would release simultaneously on 2 or 3 US networks. I'd like to think so, but I don't know, even though HP has the money to advertise it seems like the networks demand exclusivity, especially for a potential unknown quantity that is webos2 and pre2.
What precedent with other phones being simultaneously launched exists?
I hope it does come true, and I hope the Sprint version won't be 4G though I expect it to be. 3G is fast enough for me and I don't really care to pay $10 extra for the priveledge of having a 4G phone.

Look what Samsung did with their Galaxy S Android phones. They came out with a sexy new phone and then released variations of it to all of the major carriers. It worked well for Samsung. Why can't Palm do the same thing with their next phone?

YES! END CARRIER EXCLUSIVITY! HP is the company that can pull this off. There is no reason to lock themselves into a single carrier. Is there any doubt that Palm would have sold a ton more phones if it wasn't locked into Sprint during the Pre's hey day? And wouldn't Apple be selling twice as many iPhones if they weren't locked into AT&T?

The number one consumer complaint I see regardless of the phone is carrier exclusivity. HP can end this practice with the next Palm phone.

STEP UP AND DO IT HP!!

it would make sense to put it on all carriers at once this time and blow it out of the water. The exclusivity deal with Sprint did not work and probably won't wotrk until ther is a faithful following of the OS and device. I am just wondering if we will have more empty promises...cough...flash..cough...editing in documents...cough.

Besides it isn't like Verizon was wholeheartedly behind it ever. They wanted to invest all their time in their bloated android line up and blackberry storm.

Oh man, not this all over again. I just heard the Palm Pre was going to ship on April 15th, 2009!!! Woo Hoo!!

Seriously though, it is really funny. With all the tons of Android devices out there and manufacturers beating themselves up to release new, or new and improved, models -- the mantra for Androidians is "what another new device?" while we Palmians sit here just anxiously waiting on one new device.

Makes no nevermind to me. I can't upgrade for a while anyway. My Pre does what i need it to for now. I've tweaked it with Uber Kernel and the faster animations patch so I can't complain about the speed (just battery life). I do look forward to seeing the new devices when they do come out though.

You do realize that the faster animation patch doesn't actually increase the loading speed of apps right? It only makes the flashing card flash faster.

Let him have his moment. Geeze. You'd tell a little kid there's no Santa too, wouldn't you?
;)

I six year old and Daddy got me a Pre for my birthday, he let me read this sight using his account.

What do you meen no Santa?

ROFLs like that friends episode where Chandler mistakenly tells this boy hes both Adopted and that Santa isn't real.

LOL my wife got me watching friends when we got together... episode is awesome!

"There's a lot of malfunctioning wee wees and hoo hoos in this room." -- A Chandler classic.

I realize that it doesn't make anything faster. But the illusion works in making me think it's faster, hence I'm less impatient while waiting for my phone to start apps.

My daughter is 6 and we never started the Santa myth with her. She's fully aware of who the presents come from and she's happy as can be at Christmas time.

Yes but Uber kernel does decrease the loading time and the faster animations decreases the time the cards are on screen, overall giving the phone a very snappy feel. The only complaint I have about my phone really, is the battery life. I'm considering an extended battery now as well to resolve that issue.

You should invest in an extended battery. I just got mine from ebay. The brand is Mugen Power and although the battery is rated 1400 mAh, 'getfull40' reads just over 1350 ...i cant really give u an accurate estimate as to how much better it is than my stock pre battery since this is my first day using it, but ive had it in all day today, with moderate texting (im at work so i cant really play around on the phone) and i only lost about 11% battery.

For the $40 free shipping that you would pay, if you dont see an improvement in the battery life, at least you have an extra battery (i refuse to get the 2600 mAh battery w the replacement back cover...imo the pre is sleek enough without having an over protruding back door).

Was thinking about the 2600 mAh one. It's big but I think it'd be worth it presuming I can use the factory pouch or get a case that's similar to it. I hate snap on cases and leather belt pouches.

I could see same form factor but with more flash memory like 32GB. That would be an easy upgrade. I can't imagine anything as radical as an improved processor. One thing to consider is that the Verizon stores have let their stock of touchstones get depleted. Radio Shack has shipped their stock back to Palm.

Makes sense, because Rahul Sood said in hi sWebOSROundup interview 2 weeks ago, that he would be more available for comment in late September, after he returns from a business trip.

The OMAP4 processors from TI were slated for shipments in the second half of 2010, and HP did say that Palm's Smartphone roadmap wasn't going to be altered... - remember, the Pre was the first to use the TI OMAP3 processor.

It all kind of fits together.. so, September is looking to be THE month with lots of answers to questions about the next WebOS smartphone.

We shall see.

.. Ahh.. I gave this tip to PreCentral.. Something like it.

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2010/08/06/hps-webos-device-promos-starting...

.. And this also is good news...

http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/15/wimax-2-standard-and-its-theoretical-...

.. Then there is this little hopeful tidbit..

http://palmnewsdaily.com/2010/08/17/1-5-ghz-snapdragon-available-q4/

Between those three.. Lets all speculate & hope! Woohoo!

Yes, anytime beyond the next two weeks and we should know what's on the map and where it goes.

Sprint will have it on day 1. Most of Palms customers are on Sprint, most are due for upgrades, and since none of Palms Att or vz customers can upgrade for 15 months or more, excluding Sprint for debut would be as Illadvised as ditching the PIM or gapping garnet support.

Verizon customers can upgrade every 12 months for the 2 year contract price. Please make note of this and stop assuming only sprint can upgrade every year. Thanks.

I think the point is that the VZW WebOS hasn't been out for a year yet, while the Sprint WebOS is on month 15 now (upgrade potential started at month 11).

Actually, big new coming on VZ upgrades and unlimited data!!! Stay tuned and hide sharp objects!

Let's just call it 2nd half of 2010.

Wow! So there's a rumor that there might be something happening in the next couple of months that might be a new pre or the pre plus coming to sprint? I need more than that. I have a pre order for the Epic 4g at the end of the month. I love my Pre and Webos. I discovered homebrew late so thats kept me interested for a few months. Overclocking to Thunderchief and 1 ghz keeps me from feeling completely outdated but I need something concrete to wait for or I'm gonna have to jump. Preferably native 1 ghz. At least a 3.7 or 4 inch screen (SLCD or Super Amoled). Flash would be nice but not a deal breaker. Love my Pre but I'm getting that wunder lust...

News on next palm coming in a little over two weeks. But if the Epic and it's o/s is worth committing to for a year or two, good luck. You can always come back when you have an upgrade to use.10-11 months isn't that long to carry a droid around while a hot new Palm is running upgraded WebOS.

while we all hope for some info in the very very very near future, I'm slowly losing hope. Verizon still hasn't even released 1.4.5 yet. Months of consumers waiting and waiting just gets tiring. I guess another month is worth waiting, but if nothing by September, Palm should consider themselves in the ranks of DEC.

However, if there is something coming, Verizon ought to pay back palm by doing another commercial for them like they did for Droid, such as this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9fXYQjwR0w

This was one of the best phone release commercials EVER!

despite all the negativity surrounding a new device, I'm so glad my Sprint Premier Upgrade isn't till october.

I can watch the squablers go crazy while sitting in my comfy chair.

I am loving the Evo more and more though. Every time I use my friend's Evo he shows me something else I completely envy about his phone so new Palm hardware better come in Oct. or it's splitsville.

.....flame on!

Good luck finding an EVO in stock. Looking for my nephew prior to college, it's not at Sprint on line, not at WalMart, Best Buy or RadioShack. Amazon said to expect a 6 month delay. Sprint said to order from the stores & the stores said they will get them when they get them, though they would put you on a list. We looked in both San Antonio & Phoenix (he is going to ASU).

Popular, but HTC obviously didn't expect the demand from Sprint customers. I am glad because I wanted my nephew to get the Pre or Epic all along. Sadly, he went for the Epic. I am jealous, but holding out hope for the Pre 2...through the holidays...or an announcement by at least October.

"I can watch the squablers go crazy while sitting in my comfy chair."

Good luck with that chair and I hope it is nice and comfy because I have been sitting in it since June. My upgrade is available in two weeks and I thought, just like you, I would surely have news of a new webOS device by the time my upgrade was due and have an easy decision.

So, in two weeks I will be on the "squabble fence": EVO, Epic, or wait and see if Palm is going to do anything other than drive us crazy...

Setting up for a HUGE upset... there is NO way something will be ready in October, when Advertising is not happening right now. And if it's a PRE 2 instead of a WebOS "something" you should already be disappointed. Perhaps it's a regular Sprint PRE with a carrying case and extra battery......???

I'm just sayin'

Advertising cycles for smartphones are far shorter than they once were. You won't see anything more than 2 months tops at this point. 1 month is more likely.

Advertising does not make a smartphone release any more..... rumors up until the product announcement with short release window is what makes a smartphone release now.

Android, BB, Apple ..... if anything and the rumors are found to be true, we will see that Palm learned from their 6 months launch window last time that killed all their hype.

Y'know, I've had the same thought, my upgrade isn't until November but when I went into the sprint store the other day (to ask about switching to a family plan) they told me I would be eligible 9/18. I definitely got my phone in November of last year, it kind of makes me wonder (caution: extreme conjecture!) if maybe that's when the new Palm phone will be out and they bounced it up for that reason. I've heard of other providers doing that.

Sprint doesn't make you wait the full year, I believe it's 11 months, but then also based on your billing cycle. We upgraded early October last year and we were on a November contract.

Sprint's regular upgrade cycle is 22 months, rounded up to the 1st. For example: If you bought the Pre 10/06/09 (assuming not on your primary Premier line), then your upgrade date would be 8/1/11. If it was on the primary Premier line your upgrade date would be 10/1/10.

I would hope this means Sprint is launching the phone in September. If not, all I can say is good luck to HP/Palm. Probably going to see even more current webOS users on Sprint jump to Android.

I've been due for an upgrade since July 1st on Sprint and I'm waiting patiently, but my patience is starting to wear thin.

+100

What you're forgetting is we still haven't seen anything come up from the FCC for approval, and we haven't seen anything about large orders from suppliers. We may hear about a new phone on one or more carriers in Sept, but we probably won't have anything until October.

Also, I've been out of contract on my dumb phone since May 2009, waiting on a 4G WebOS. Just relax. Waiting makes the heart grow fonder.

Actually the Pre Plus through AT&T works very well and is very fast. I have not received the card errors that others have had etc. I would just settle for the 1.4.5 upgrade for the new apps and games that are hitting the app store!

Curses! I'm not due for an upgrade till the end of september 2011.

august 2011 for me :( but i just got my pre two months ago so i can't complain.

Maybe I can convince someone else on my family plan to let me use their upgrade.

Man, I just bought my Verizon Pre last week. This better get sorted out in the next 20 days so i can return my Pre(not that I don't love it) if this is true.

If someone other then Sprint gets the sucessor to the Palm Pre, I will be for lack of a better word.. speechless.

Without the users that adopted the Palm Pre on sprint, palm would have been much more of a failure then it stands today. It would be wrong of them to do an exclusive with another provider.

I can tell you one thing, I won't be switching.

I will believe, so long as Sprint gets it too. I've been sitting on my upgrade for almost a week now, and I can't wait for an excuse to use it. Come on Pre 2!

I've waited and waited. I'm gona get the epic, and hopefully next year HPalm has their stuff together and I can come back to webos.

Palm Pixi was a great device, I hope they market that better as I still think it has shelf life.

For the most part though, I hope they stick with a treo of Palm devices in terms of Pixi / Pre / A widescreen phone. Then just keep recycling those every year.

Unless they come out with the phone from the evo/iphone4 video that creates your own island and turns into a jet a flies you there I'm not ever going back to verizon, so i hope whenever they do come out with a phone, its a launch on multiple carriers that invovles sprint.

hehehe, I've seen that and it is wonderful. My heart sang while I watched it.

I know this video was about the Evo/iPhone but it was truly Epic! Okay that's cheesy, but seriously that vid is absolutely hilarious...

.

Qualcomm to ship 1.5GHz QSD8672 Snapdragon processor in Q4
http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/17/qualcomm-to-ship-1-5ghz-qsd8672-snapd...

Does this mean the manufacturers will receive the chips or the phones with them will be shipping?

fullcircle I'm with you, i got my July 26th so I might be stuck with my Pre Plus from Verizon I do love the mobile hot spot for my IPOD Touch...Maybe it will be my christmas present from my family unless IPHONE comes to Verizon 1st , come on HP/Palm we are patiently waiting.

Rumor is iPhone on Verizon in January 2011. Manufacturers in China are leaking that they're building CDMA iPhones...which could also be for Sprint (but I highly doubt that). If that's the case, it'll be a real test of whether it's AT&T that sucks, or the iPhone's reception.

Yawn. IPhone on VZW has been rumored for years. ATT won't allow it (they'll keep throwing money at Aple for exclusivity) and at this point, the way Android is growing, VZW might be losing interest, especially considering what a nightmare Apple is to do business with. Don't think they didn't notice when Apple dumped ATT under the bus first over the antenna issue.

Please, please let it have a big screen. For the love of god Palm, please make the screen at least the size of the iPhone's screen, hopefully even go up to the size of the HTC Incredible's screen. Please, I can't take using the tiny screen of my Pre Plus. I love webOS, but I'd like good hardware too. And the processor should be 1 GHz- preferably a Hummingbird like what Samsung used. And a much bigger battery- at least 1600 mAH honestly. And a better- bigger, mainly- physical keyboard. A better camera wouldn't hurt either. ButI think the screen is the #1 issue- it's just too small. Also, please use a glass screen. But not Amoled- I want to see it outside.

That said, I hope this is true. For the love of god let it be on Verizon...

Regarding the glass screen. Apple has a patent on multitouch on glass screen. I believe that Palm has one for a plastic screen. You won't be likely to see a Palm phone with a glass screen, although maybe HP will gamble that Apple won't want to tussle with HP's lawyers/patent portfolio and go for it anyhow.

I truly doubt Apple would dare get into a patent war with HP/Palm. If HP/Palm really wanted they would go ahead and pull out their patent big guns.

Also this article shows how easy it is to circumvent all of the above and possible make something even better: http://gizmodo.com/5142445/dissecting-apples-multitouch-patent-can-it-st...

Apple somehow has rights to using glass on the screen, so everyone else has to use something that's not glass such as plastic.

I agree with all of your points...but calling the Pre's screen "tiny"? I think someone has been spoiled, my good sir.

Since I'm on a Pre that was just replaced back in June, I'm not itching for new hardware yet.
I do want removable flash memory and better battery life if possible. I'm gonna miss having the little button at the bottom of the phone that the Pre Plus DIDN'T get. I talked to a PPlus owner who said she actually liked mine better because of the button.
(or maybe she was flirting with me, I can't tell sometimes.)
I am gonna have to play with the new 4G phone when it comes out, just to see what it's like. I do love me some gadgets!

Oh, your the one person who likes the button ;)

I guess so. ;)
I wish it did more... :p

I actually love the button too! It's so convenient, and I know when I'm hitting it. Love that feedback.

I also love the button.

I say we send to "Mythbusters" for a confirm/ busted call but with our luck all we'll get is a PLAUSIBLE.

+1

come on palm/hp I'm rooting for you...as hard as it is to sit and here about all these great phones being announced everyday I will try my best to stand by and wait for your new phone...i hope you come out swinging too with great kickass hardware to show the beauty of webOS. Anytime now palm...going back to school with a great new phone or atleast an announcement of something new would be a dream come true.

We better get it at Sprint at the same time or first. I'd be pissed after having been a dedicated Palm customer if the skipped out on us, especially as we gave them some much needed cash flow. Hell, Verizon botched the launch so badly that it took a lot longer to get to Sprint's numbers.

Come one Pre2. I've got an upgrade ready and waiting for you!

If I were Palm I'd take the HTC approach and come out with a few different phones one for each carrier. That way the carrier's happy b/c of the exclusivity agreement, and Palm's happy having more phones for sale. The could do as little as have different names, or form factors, and keep the exact same specs.

I could see same form factor but with more flash memory like 32GB. That would be an easy upgrade. I can't imagine anything as radical as an improved processor. One thing to consider is that the Verizon stores have let their stock of touchstones get depleted. Radio Shack has shipped their stock back to Palm.

That's a cool "I want to believe" poster.

Should have been a group shot of the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus & the Pre2. I'm holding onto my Pre until the next mythical creature shows up ;)

I

right now I'm looking at windows 7 phone it's looking great unless hplam releases something amazing and gets tons of apps out soon then I'm jumping ship...

i'm with him - will go to Android

It really is shaping up very nicely. In some ways it may be a downgrade from webOS, but the speed on the device is just incredible.

Yeesh, I can understand jumping to Android or even iPhone, but Windows phone 7? Ew.

It holds great promise, and can only get better with updates.

Of course, it all depends on the execution. So far its launching with 60 games, a good start and a sign of good things to come.

Android and iOS are better options, but its all really up to the user's style.

WINDOWS 7.............????!!! I don't think that means what you think it means....

Dry Heave!!

My wants for new hardware:

16gb internal plus removable SD.

Bring back the center button (it adds character) and ditch the power button and assign it's functions to the center button.

Carbon fiber case, like that laptop Rahul Sood mentioned in his interview.

Keep the slider, make it a tiny bit longer and wider (and slightly wider keys). For those who want a huge screen, put out a third form factor.

1ghz processor (minimum)

@Malber What do Verizon and Radio Shack Touchstone stock have anything to do with a new WebOS device coming out?

Predicting things like this for Palm isn't exactly like predicting the weather. Too many times I come to PreCentral and find a prediction not come to fruition because it was made in hast or vain. Palm doesn't have their head on straight, so why would you?

I think ill pass on this having any validity before I get too excited.

Windows 7???!!! I still can't get over that notion! As if Microsoft has got the industry locked down on intuitive mobile operating systems... NO WAY!!

I Fold!

I have to say that my Pre is holding up pretty well after a year. A little overclocking (just 720), a nice batch of hot games on the way, and a new Phantom Skinz to make it look shiny-new again, and I'm not that envious or in any hurry to upgrade really.

But HPalm does need a 2.0 to keep up with the big kids. At least a choice with a larger/denser screen, a faster processor, and some more memory (or a card option). A hardware upgrade and some voice access would keep them in the game and give webOS a little more time to shine through.

Until I actually see some new hardware. Or HP releases some information. These rumors will just be rumors.

good grief, you guys sure complain a lot! It's just a piece of electronics. If Palm finds a better partner in Verizon for an October release, what's the big deal? We are ALL still inside our 2-year contract. If you can't wait a couple more months for upgraded phone, then maybe it is waaaay too important to you! Just my 2-cents.

Plus....it's just a rumor.

provider exclusivity doesnt make sense at all. Palm needs to sell phones as long as the device is new.

Well well well... a juicy rumor....2 days before earnings release!

I picked enough HP stock when it went on sale... Earningsto pay for my new webOS phone... slate, printers, and a toaster made with liquid metal!!!

HP... I love you man!

Release the Beast already! I dont care what carrier it goes to first. I will drool and wait fo rit to land on Sprint... as the Beast Plus.

I think some people here are jumping the gun just a tad. I don't see the big deal if it goes to AT&T, Verizon or Sprint. Long as a new phone is slated to come out and people take notice and it sales. HPalm is a business not your favorite franchise player on your favorite sports team. Relax its a phone that will have its due time on any carrier.

I realize that some have been waiting a year or more, but come on the thing that everyone should be fighting bout is seeing, Palm phones stay on top or at least muscle its way into Droid, Iphone, Blackberry, Territory.

Until then, at least be somewhat happy this rumor is even creating a buzz. Today's topic could have been a lot worse.

I don't know if this has been said but, if it's hitting verizon, then, it's probably not 4G. Since it's a verizon leak, then I'm hopeful a device will hit sprint 1st

You sprint people need to stop acting like you are the ONLY ones who love and support Palm. Yes, you got your original pre first and it was frustrating to see other carriers get a better model.Get over it. I have used Palm phones on Verizon for years. I may hate Verizon but I dont see the point in being a cry baby about what carrier a phone gets released on first. I def dont see the point in acting like it was a personal attack against you "loyal pre owners who bought on release day" This is a business, not a friendship, deal with it.

sweet baby jesus. +1 i soo agree with everything u said.

Thanks!!! I have been coming to this website for a year and just now decided to join because I was so sick of the belly aching. I have loved Palm since the Palm pilot days and I think this site is really biased to people who are not on Sprint.

There is some speculation on the inter-webs today about a new web-os phone. Its good that something seems to be happening. I could see a new phone coming out on verizon or at&t first. Palm and Sprint are not on the best terms. Case in point Sprint naming the Pre Launch as one of its misfires probably did not help matters. Hopefully Hpalm wont punish us Sprint users because of this. I was going to upgrade to an Epic 4g at the end of the month. I actually have a pre-order in right now but if there is something from Hpalm with web-os coming I will wait for it.

I get it sprint didn't do a good job at selling the palm but if palm had put some good commercials out there in the beginning something else would had happen and if verizon gets something new before the people that been loyal to palm guess what they are gonna leave ya for another phone cough cough htc evo 4G
