Rumor: Pixi to launch on October 20 23

by Derek Kessler Thu, 01 Oct 2009 6:52 pm EDT

Palm Pixi There's not much to go on here apart from the date, but Boy Genius Report is claiming that the Palm Pixi will be released on October 20th to Sprint corporate stores and presumably Sprint partners like Best Buy Mobile and The Shack. No definitive word on pricing, though it is not expected to be any higher than $99 on contract.

In case you've forgotten, the Pixi (pictured to the right) will have a 320x400 screen, 8 GB of storage, CDMA/EVDO radio, no WiFi, 2 MP camera with flash, 320 MHz processor, GPS, and a removable battery all crammed into a 10.85 mm thin package.

The Pixi will also bring a number of updates to webOS along for the ride, including an official Facebook app and Yahoo! integration with Synergy.

Thanks to ldfrombigd for the tip!

Only problem is, BGR does have a track record of being completely wrong whenever Palm is involved.

But that'd be great for them to get it out that fast.

Hard to say... though I'd at least give BGR about a half-and-half go/no-go rating.

Agreed, but half-and-half makes them about as accurate as the quarter in my pocket. *shrug*

if this had wifi i would prob switch from my pre

Any thoughts, will 1.2.1 will come on Oct 20 as well, maybe before?

I think 1.2.1 will come out soon to fix broken exchange issues

yea 1.2.1 better come out sooner!

But I think it will be 1.3, bring something new to the phone/OS. Plus Palm has been pretty steady with the updates thus far, so 1.3 doesnt seem to far of a shot for about 20+ days

no wifi Bad feature to leave out. I know most phone on sprint lack wifi but I believe that was a big selling point for a lot of pre owners. I actual prefer the pixi form factor to the pre but the lack of wifi would drive me to hero over the pixi if I were in the market for a new smartphone.

Wifi is no good since we can't stream songs/movies from the computer.

derek, if pixi does come on the 20th, does this mean pre owners can look forward to a facebook app on or before that date?

More precisely, when will the webOS update reflected on the Pixi hit those of us on the Pre?

Just a guess but I'd think we'll see another large update in a month or so, so October 20th for Yahoo support (only confirmed feature of the new webOS version on the Pixi- Facebook might end up being an app catalog app) sounds about right to me.

We've had updates ranging from every couple weeks to 1.2 which was released two months later than 1.1. Keep in mind though that 1.2 was delayed quite a few times. I think every month or so we'll see a 1.x.0 update.

We might get a 1.2.x update though before then, with the Exchange issues that people are having in their email.

will the pre also be getting a facebook app?

Almost definitely. There's pretty much complete software parity between the two, the differences are all in hardware.

Besides that, the Pre is the flagship and the Pixi is the cheaper version, so it makes even more sense for software features to migrate upward.

Like the previous commenter said 20 days isn't too little time for a .1 update and I believe him because it isn't really 20 days. Think about it, the Pre released June 6 and 1.1 was released July 22. 1.2 was done on sep 8th but because of sprint it was delayed. We had even gotten the leak. People who got the leaked 1.2 said there is nothign different meaning from the time of the leak till 1.2 actually came out they probably had been working on the next update. I think it is safe to assume we might get 1.3 on October 20th. That will be about 42 days between when the updates were either fnished or released. That is only about 8 days less than 1.0 to 1.1. What do you guys think?!

$50 for this phone.

Has anyone noticed how, if you take the "chassis" of the Pixie, get rid of the keyboard and make the screen take up the whole face of the device...you got yourself a full touchscreen, webos monster...?..i'm just sayin..

CONCUR - Palm needs to drop that as the next device, and get sum people to perfect that virtual keyboard that's out. I think they may be doing so cuz the vkb 'hack' is ultraa nice, but needs some better integration with the system. Once they figure that out, they we would see a full touchscreen device. Palm's small, they can do so many things so fast.... might be mid 2010 for that. I'm a keyboard-guy tho, so I'm sticking w/ PRE all day mane!

I'm feeling goooood, more apps, paid apps coming too! I cant wait!! More developers will be pouring in once they can make sum profit here.... Esp. w/ the new guys in Developer Relations, I predict a GREAT exponential climb in apps by the end of '09....

so any word on if the pixi will be shipping with the touchstone charging station, I don't see any plug port for charging? if so that is going to SUCK!!!

well there's obviously got to be a usb charger port. How would you sync the phone with a computer without one?

I agree a webos device with pixi size no external keyboard and a larger screen with more memory and a higher screen resolution would be pretty darn perfect. Wifi might be nice but gsm and cdma models simul, taneous release PLEASE!!!!!!!!

so...will the Pixie require an Everything plan?
