Rumor: Pre Plus $149.99, Pixi Plus $99.99 + BOGO? 41

Verizon BOGO

While we’re learning more and more about the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus as we get closer to their January 25th launch, what we haven’t had an inkling of until now was how much they would cost. According to an anonymous tipster at Phone Arena, Verizon is planning to match Sprint’s pricing on the Pre and Pixi, but with the faster, stronger, WiFi-ier models. That would put the Pre Plus at $149.99 on a new two year contract, and the Pixi Plus at $99.99 on contract, though both do come to that point after a rebate of some amount (familiar territory for Sprint customers).

What could really drive sales, though, is the hint that the Pixi Plus may also be included as part of Verizon’s ongoing Buy One, Get One Free promotions. In the past the “BOGO” deals have been available with BlackBerry devices and received due credit for vaulting the BlackBerry Curve to the top of monthly best-seller lists. Verizon is currently running a BOGO promotion for the Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris, where buying one of either handset will net you a Droid Eris for free. If such a promotion were to be put into place for the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus (with the Pixi Plus being free with a Pre Plus or a Pixi Plus), we can see this as being a huge boon for Palm’s sales numbers.

Of course, no matter how much sense this rumor may make, it is still a rumor of the unconfirmed variety (as all rumors are), so take this with the requisite grains of salt.

I'm a sprint customer and have no beef with Verizon's willingness to sell the Pre. Anything to boost Palm's revenue is a good thing for even us Sprint users!

heard

wow if true

That would be "sweet" if true ... but, I would lose the "guess the Pre+ plus game" I guessed $200 for Pre+ and was promptly "PRICE IS RIGHT"ED by contestant #4 who guessed $199.99

Don't forget to spay and neuter ... like Verizon will my wallet.

If I know Verizon, and I do, they may actually spay and neuter you!

Major shock if this turns out to be true. On a side note, can us folks on Sprint get hooked up with their totally awesome, totally new default phone backgrounds?

If VZW has the best phones the best service net work
and they have better plan price, WHY they sell them phones
cheap, Buy One Get the second one free, MUST BE SOTHING
WRONG WITH THE BIG RED PEOPLE...

Sprint's 3G is faster, cheaper... VZ has better coverage but not that much better. And Sprint will have 4G covering 120 million users by end of 2010; already covers 30 million in 27 metros.

When will palm have a 4G phone?

you sprint haters are all morons & whining little sissies. Accept the fact that Verizon gets the pre & improves it.

We are not Sprint haters! We are people who live in an area that has poor Sprint signals and have a company plan with Verizon. We would love to buy a cheap Sprint plan but have had to wait for the pre to come out on our carrier. I'm glad that the Sprint pre users have had the pleasure of using your WebOS devices while some of us have waited in the sidelines waiting for our expensive plans. Oh and we have more class than to call people we don't know names.

I'm not concerned about this. What is the monthly service cost? Will that change?

Hmm... delightful opportunity:

1) Mr. Doe in US buys Pre or Pizie, gets a free Pixie.
2) Mr. Nopixieineurope buys extra Pixie from Mr. Doe.

That should make Mr. Doe very happy about some kickback, and Mr. Nopixieineurope can change his name to Mr. Happyeuropean ...

Except that Mr. Nopixiineurope will have a CDMA Pixi that won't work on any of his GSM carriers. :(

Right. In the initial excitement I forgot that

...and the fact that the American guy will have cancellation fees for cancelling his second line... And those fees will be more than he can sell the phone for!

Didn't think of it having commitments too. {crap world}...

No matter what kind of supposed "deals" Verizon promotes, in the end you will end up being a constant victim of overcharging, mysterious additional fees, and downright unethical business practices that Verizon seems to follow as if it was written into their corporate mission statement. Sure they have the best coverage, but I'd rather not be systematically robbed by my cell provider. I'd choose the Sprint Palm over Verizon one hands down.

How right you are. Back in late high school/early college during my dark days as a Verizon customer, I was sharing my bill with my gf at the time. It was always a constant battle with them. She got so mad upon seeing a bill once (and all its ridiculous mysterious fees and overcharging and all that good stuff) that she threw the phone against a wall and smashed it. True story. I couldn't blame her either. Once our contract was up, I switched to Sprint and made a blood pact to never EVER be a part of Evil Red anymore. It's "good" to see they haven't changed.

I've been with Verizon for over 10 years and have never felt I've been used and abused. They have the best network. I'll pay a little more for the access I have on both the voice and data sides. You can't even get Sprint where I live and my Son-in-law and daughter have AT&T and are always asking me to use my phone as they don't have a signal. I currently have a Palm Treo and on the 25th I'll have a Pre. Can't wait!!

+1 It is a pre plus for me on the 25th! Been using a treo 755P for over two years.

Have read the PC WORD about VZW SPRINT AT&T before you make any
judgement yet?

I love the clean look of the Pre plus, but I'd rather stay with Sprint and my old Pre until Sprint gets the new one. I hope Verizon sells tons, good for Palm and good for us.

Verizon has started Pre/Pixi radio advertising in the D.C. market. Heard spot this morning; first half was about revolutionary, simple device; second half was prerecorded/live read that mentioned they were coming Jan 25. Would assume that part could be changed out to highlight any BOGO offer.

I assume the pre will drop to $99 and Pixi to $49 on January 25th on Sprint

It's best to assume nothing when it comes to Sprint.

SOOO BADLY HOPE FOR THAT! I am eligable for upgrade in march, and the clock is ticking...

Anything that grows webos as a platform is A-OK with me......

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you get the free phone ONLY with new 2nd line.

You either get a new line or you have an existing secondary line eligible for an upgrade. Either way requires a 2-year contract (and don't forget that Big Red raised their cancellation fee).

All I can say for the people trying Vz, good luck with that $350 cancellation prize. : )

Sorry Double post.

What are we looking at on no contract? I'm thinking around $550. I think the new pre will look nice next to my eris.

I really want Palm to succeed. If I had to be an early adopter to secure the continued development of webOS then that's fine by me.

+ for Palm.
-1 for V service plan customers.
+ Sprint for having better service plans.
= more mobile handset competition = better handsets for us.

But, I thought I remembered seeing an article bemoaning the fact that VZW's order total for Pres/Pixis was amazingly low. All this stuff going on now seems like they will be sold out very quickly.

OK so this begs the question...

Sprint signed on Palm but did you see advertising...NO!!!
at least nothing substantial...
Palm had to front the bill

SO NOW there is the Big V...
WILL THEY advertise the Pre properly?
or will they let Palm again front the bill and instead advertise another phone....hmmm?

Verizon customers who will be buying the Pre+ is also benefiting from the Pre hardware improvement that Palm has learned from current Pre owners. So in this sense, Verizon customers can buy with confidence that their hardware is improved compared to the Sprint Pre, good for them.

But I'm most excited about what Palm has in their pocket for a Pre 2 when time comes to introduce their second gen Pre. Hopefully that is coming this year.

If i was a sprint customer or sprint i wouldn't be excited for Palm. With sprint loosing a million customers per quater and sinking 2 billion in clearwires 4g network which is own and operated by clearwire not sprint, i would be very worried that your only go to exlusive phone besides the hero is going on the largest network. Verizon's new price plans are very competative to sprints and allow better coverage. With that being said, if Palm's devices sell fairly better on Verizon than on sprint wouldn't it be smart for palm to develope their next phone for verizon first. Not to mention sprint may not be a company much longer with their wonderful customer service and lack of network and the bleeding of funds. With the battle of 4G ahead Verizon clearly is going to have a fare better upper hand considering they own 95% of the 700mhz band they will operate on and the fact that will have tested speed from 12 to 20 megs of download. I have sprint but if all this happens i will be making the switch. Coverage is growing smaller everytime they sell areas to create cash flow is starting to really frustrate me.
