Rumor: webOS 1.4.5.1 to hit Sprint tomorrow? 52
We've been waiting for what seems like has been ages here in the States for the latest version of webOS 1.4.5.1, complete with support for indie 3D titles, to come available. We thought we'd see the update last month when a Sprint reseller got word that the update was going to hit on the 7th, but that time has come and gone without so much as a peep from Palm or Sprint regarding the update. So no promises this will pan out. At all.
However, a tipster from our forums has dropped word that Sprint's 3rd party ISC Portal suggests that the update is imminent. It should bring the same change log that we first saw last month. Note that the release notes below are in line with what we hear from developers already running 1.4.5:
The new build # is 268.
Palm Pre Software Update to webOS 1.4.5.1
Specialists: All Customers: Palm Pre Users
Effective Date: 8/10/10
Details: A software update is available for the Palm Pre on 08/10/2010.Fixes, Feature Updates and Enhancements
Web: Podcasts now download correctly. Web: text entry can now be entered correctly
Email: Sprint branded default email signature correctly branded Power consumption / battery optimization
Videos: A user can now send a video via multimedia messaging from the Video application
Video: the video trim feature now works to send in a message.
Sprint TV: Upgrade to V 3.5.4
Sprint TV: Enhanced Parental controls
No word whether this build still has the webOS 1.4.5 game-save bug (we'd like the think the delay between this release and the non-US release came from the time it took to fix that bug). We've all had our hopes up that this release was imminent enough times that we're not really recommending you start hitting that update app just yet - but then again it has mysteriously appeared for one user, though we're betting in that case the Pixi Radio Swap had something to do with it.

hurry up VZW!!!
does this mean we have to uninstall patches and kernels before updating?
unfortunately, it does sir.
Just like all other updates:
- Kernels: yes, remove
- Themes: yes, remove
- Patches: mostly no, see http://forums.precentral.net/webos-patches/253860-attention-patches-must... for any patches which do need removal
Not clickable! Just posting the whole URL:

yeah what do we have to uninstall?
if you installed everything via preware, then you do not have to uninstall anything but yr theme if you use themes.
I actually thought there were some patches which touch multiple areas of the code and if none or all of those areas are touched then it is ok, but if only some areas are touched then the update would break them? Apparently it is a short list of patches which are affected by this. Does anyone know what I am talking about? I seem to remember the list being published the last time 1.4.5 was released
just any themes and if you have the uber/kernel installed.
How could an update this minor be taking so long?
sup?
cause the carriers have to do allot of "testing" first...
In Verizon terms, "testing" equals "what can we disable and make the customers pay for?"
i bet..
It's been such a long time since the last update, remind us what we need to do to get ready?
Do we need to remove our patches? How about the overclocking?
Any idea if mytether will continue working?
if you installed all patches via preware you only need to uninstall two items.
- theme
- kernal
everything else will autoupdate after the install. If it does not work on 1.45 then a placeholder would be made until that update is ready for you.
I love preware an how much easier updates are now!! Thanks to all the developers over the last year!!
the updates are so minor that its really not worth updating, especially if it means loosing all your patches, themes and kernels. I for one, will not be getting the update. The only update I want is new hardware (yeah I said it! lol)
You will eventually be forced to update, your phone will update for you.
not if you have the updates turned off. I won't updte till it's safe.
X Org tools, one of my favorite programs.
I'll be glad when it's released. Then yall can see if there are bugs and stuff and I'll update when it's safe.
I have had a problem with Sprint TV since the 1.4.1 update. Says "You are not authorized to use this application. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.(3000)" Im wondering...with this update and the update to Sprint TV in 1.4.5.1 if that will solve this problem?
If you have Preware installed just run the Emergency File Verification app and It will let you know if you have anything installed that isn't covered under the AUPT technology.
I didnt understand any of that. Lol
It's not a rumor it's official. I received the official comunication, it will begin rolling out tomorow....now to remove my theme and kernel. Should I wait a couple days to allow the developers to catch up or is everything in place already?
Well, if this is the real deal, the build # is 299, not 268.
build # 268 via the ASC comunication. I don't know where you got it had to be 299. They may postpone something on ISC (the indirect portal) but I can't remember them sending it out over the Comunication and pushing it back.
Still don't think I'm gonna go holding my breath or anything. It would be awesome. I've been waiting to doctor.
And of course if they're using European dating, that means October 8th, 2010.
Leprecub...isn't that the same user who posted the last rumor about the 7th? With a similarly looking document? Ummhmmm. Well, here's to not hoping for a repeat of the last time, lol.
gawd, I hope so.
I would not get your hopes up people, lest your panties wad up when it doesn't come...
So the delay was due to Palm deciding to release 1.4.5.1 instead of 1.4.5? Last time I checked, they didn't want to release an update to carriers fixing the fstab bug due to how it would delay the release to users even longer.
So, after hitting the update button for the 12000th time in the last 70 or so days, I might have the pleasant surprise of fruition tonight? Dare I get my obsessive compulsive hopes up?
Ummm, nah, don't think so. I'm not from Missouri, but this time you gotta, "SHOW ME!!!"
Will believe it when I see it...
Next item of discussion after the update hits: the lack of PDK apps and developer interest in general.
any kernel installed with preware is aupt safe.
any kernel installed with preware is aupt safe.
very confusing. Some say if kernel was installed with preware your ok, others say no. What's up?
the ones who say no don't know what they are saying. They may want to uninstall to feel safe if it makes them nervous, but it's misinfomation if they are telling you you have to remove because you do not.
To my knowledge, Webos Internals only guarantees Uberkernel to create a placeholder. Those with other kernels (Starfighter, Warthog, etc.) are recommended to uninstall.
You do not need to remove most patches, but you do need to remove "Multi Mod" patch for the web browser and "SMS Tones Per Contact." If you do not, they will have problems afterwards.
Uninstall before the OS update, then reinstall after it is done..
WTF! Which is it do I uninstall patches, kernels, and themes or not you guys need to get on the same page
The only patches you need to remove are listed here: http://forums.precentral.net/webos-patches/253860-attention-patches-must...
Webos Internals says Uberkernel will work just like AUPT.
But ALL themes need to be removed.
or maybe you should research this stuff before you use it. Insted of telling people to get on the same page.
that's what I'm trying to do.. but there's 10 people with 10 different answers... richard
If you use a patch on this page remove it first (not clickable):
http://forums.precentral.net/webos-patches/253860-attention-patches-must...
If you use UberKernel, you *should* be fine. You *should* also be fine with the other kernels (INSTALLED VIA PREWARE!), but there's no guarantee.
As always, YMMV. Be prepared to have your phone melt, never boot again, and/or have your kitten eaten.
Apps are apps. No biggie.
M.
It will definately come tommorrow... I just re-installed the Uber-Kernel this morning as well as a ton of patches and a theme... naturally!
i dont even want this, give us 2.0 instead! id much rather keep my themes, patches, and uberkernel...basically everything that makes my phone perfect...exactly the way it is. i wish there was an option to disable the autoupdate that palm pushes through
so tell us why can't you have the update and still have all yr cool stuff that's makes your phone great?
X org tools. Very simple.
Crossing my fingers, toes, eyes......
Good Morning! It's 7:30AM on the East Coast and so far...........nada!

this is the correct URL for the needed patch removals -I don't know what all the links are previously, but they weren't working for me.
