Six More Apps in the Official App Catalog 38

by Dieter Bohn Thu, 20 Aug 2009 7:50 pm EDT

Palm is feeling their Wheaties today, they just added six more apps to the official App Catalog. Let's see what we got:

  • Shabbat Shalom helps those of the Jewish faith (or those merely interested) know candle lighting times
  • Kosher2Go is a YARF (Yet Another Restaurant Finder) that specializes in finding Kosher restaurants
  • ESPN Zoom is one of those picture apps where you find the differences between two photos.  This is not the first app we expected to see with ESPN branding, but whatever
  • Bubbles! is your standard fare bubble pop game, not unlike Pre Dot Pop found in our Homebrew Forums
  • Mileage Monitor monitors your gas mileage
  • Word Ace "combined the betting and strategy of Texas Hold'em and the mental challenge of a word game."  It's also good to note that it was featured at preDevCamp!

Nice adds, Palm.  Keep 'em coming!  Incidentally, we added six apps to our Homebrew App Gallery today too, three RPGS from moblyng, LDS Scriptures, MortCalc, and PreCandy.

Thanks, ragazzopigro!

At least they got a couple new games in there? But it still says alot if there's more aps in the bootleg app catalogue compared to the official Palm catalogue.

Ok so are these apps free or do they cost anything?

Word Ace looks interesting.

Now where is my Texas Hold'em App :)

They are free. We'll see more apps once the the Catalog is out of beta and pay system is all set up.

Bubbles got ads..ARGGGG

great to see new apps. a positive sign.

Regarding the games: nothing intersting to me personally. but again it's good that there's apps coming. so all in all a positive.

I really like the Word Ace game. Now we need a thread to post our friend codes so we can all hook up. My code is 1983.
Profile name is DaveyLeo. See you online! Time to bust out the old dictionary and study up.

I had something here about the ratio of religious applications and IM, but I am changing it because I fear missinterpritation on teh internets happens alot.

anyway glad appcatalog keeps growing.

as a sidenote it never occured to me that there was such a category as jewish based apps. Although there's a good muslim one so i should have seen it coming.

i d/led 4 of 6 apps, so i am happy with this update. however, i think if palm wants my happy feelings to stay they need to update the app store on a weekly basis until the official app store opens.

Still waiting for them to approve my first app.

Which is?

It's a cool twist on a tipping calculator. I won't pretend it's anything huge and I'm not sure how much I'm actually _allowed_ to say but its main purpose was to help me learn webOS development.

Now that my first project is out of the way I'm working on some cool stuff :).

I hope my first app, however; goes into the App Catalog by this weekend.

come on... no more food or fun crap apps. I'd like apps that will make my Pre as functional as my Blackberry was. Don't get me wrong, I love my Pre but I still realize that it is missing some functionality that a smart phone should have. Update that.

I'm with you - these are ok, but I really want to see apps that make the Pre a killer smartphone, and that's functional productive utilities (like some of the Homebrew apps). This is like sprinkles on ice cream.

And the stuff I really want will require OS changes, and I hope Palm is working on those.

Yeah i'll second that. i'm have a 360 for games but games will take care of themselves. but i don't need 800 food appz and more movie finder apps. I will admit though there are crap apps all over the apple store there's a lot of stuff i'd use. And a though i've homebrewed and downloaded some app catalog stuff i don't use most of it.

oh curious i'd appreciate if you could elaborate on what you'd like added that will make it as functional as your blackberry. i've never had a blackberry so i don't know.

Just to name a few of the biggies: (for me)
1. set different notifications for email, mms, text. You can also set the number of times you want it to vibrate and/or ring.
2. spell check and auto complete
3. memo (notes) syncing

Of course I can name several things that the Pre kills the BB so it's give and take. I just figured they would start with the best and go up from there.

thanks. good to know. I don't mind the ring thing. But hey i'm coming from a 4 year old samsung dumbphone. And i got the mynotification homebrew thingy.

Agree on the spellcheck/autocomplete. It has a little autocomplete which sucks by the way. Like try to type "U.S.A." Doesn't work. You ending up with "you". It will be real nice when they add that feature and hopefully let you edit the dictionary.

Me personally i rarely use memos so not really an issue. I will say this if those are the biggest things i'm quite happy then. That would mean the Pre is at least competing well with the blackberry. i know it recently got some business certification as well.

Thanks. I will add you to my list also.

Dang...I am getting a slow start, but learning to code apps for WebOS. My first one was going to be a gas mileage program, just to learn some basice techniques. I will prolly continue to work with it, just for my own use. Great looking stuff starting to show up, both in the official catalog and here in the homebrew gallery! I love this stuff!!!

Really would love to hear a voice control app. *Open email*
for example.

hopefully this will mark the start of more apps comming out

Word Ace is hands down the best game on the Pre. I am so totally addicted to it.

It has great chat features too and is a very social app.

I agree, Word Ace is an excellent game. I can see wasting a lot of time playing this one.
