Slacker Radio Lands on webOS 50
We were pretty impressed with our when we saw the demo for Slacker on webOS at CES. Now you can be as impressed as we were, as Daniel just emailed to let us know it's live in the Official App Catalog. Heck, it's good enough to briefly appear in Verizon's Palm Pre Plus commercials and also free, so you may as well give it a shot.
Slacker is yet another online radio station with liking and whatnot, but it manages to surface a bit more of the music content to you in-app than Pandora does as well as give you a set of 120 pre-programmed genre stations to help you discover music without all the pesky thinking of artists you like.
If you upgrade to Slacker Plus (for a monthly fee), you can get bonus features like building lists out of specific songs, lyrics, and ad-free listening. Tell 'em PreCentral sent ya (because, you know, we just did).

Yup I have already got it running on my Pre....Well I did until the battery died!!
LOVE IT!!!!! Offers WAY more than Pandora!
I've heard of this but never actually checked it out. I'll be downloading it later today.
I saw this in Preware over the weekend and was stoked until I tried to download it and was told it wasn't a valid WebOS app. Great to see it in the official app catalog!
Well damnit, I've already signed up for Pandora, Last.FM, and Napster now I have to sign up for one more.
Napster is on the Pre? That's what I am waiting for.
Well... there *is* Music Wave (Lite), which is close enough.
Yep! i got it,& love it! yeah..it has a slicker interface,& more professional looks to it.The sound quality is very good, loud,& cristal clear, just from my PRE speaker alone. Even without a (headset/headphone).Anyway,this long..with RadioTime,is a good collection to my listening pleasure.Verizon fans,"Welcome to the world of PRES",where Free quality Radio Stations, is in your graps. Enjoy!!
Did you go to public school?
Id kill for an spotify application (you may not know spotify cos is maybe european only, but is your streaming-itunes-directly-from-the-web kind of site, with offline service too). It exists for android, iphone, some symbians but not webOs yet. I think is what europeans really need to convince themselves webOS is truly great. I have actually told to myself that if it doesnt exist an official version in two months Ill take the pdk and despotify and a source control server and create an open source movement just to create it. :(.
Spotify!? Never heared about it. And yes, I live in Europe. But if it somehow is connected to iTunes, that might be the reason...
Sorry, not connected to itunes, was just an analogy to say is that kind of itunes-like site, only far better and not the old mammut itunes has become.
I find it pretty popular in Spain and UK at least, Ive lived in both places and know a bunch of people using it as their only music resource, myself included, is just an smoother way of hearing music. Some time ago it required invitations dunno if now so may also be cos of that.
But in anyway the european pre is quite empty of music applications directy on the phone and I believe spotify would be the queen.
Spotiy is from Sweden and it is already generating more money then itunes.
You should definitly create a app because I don't think there is a app coming soon.
for people who still need to create their own stations outside of the 120 preprogrammed ones, just hop on the website with your account info, and you can do it that way for now.
Sweet!
Any idea if there will ever be a Sirius App a'la the iPhone?
+1 this is the app I'm really waiting for.
Anyone think they want a 100,000 dollars?? Releasing it on the day the contest starts after almost being out there over the weekend?? And notifying precentral that it is out.
Not saying anything wrong, ill use it and love it!!
Slacker radio rules! Thanks a lot.
Not in Europe. Lovely.

Oh WOW, another app that won't work outside the US.
I have to say I don't need any more of these. I want my kinoma back so I can enter the stream url and listen to whatever I want. Maybe with the new pdk kinoma can make an app now with all the codecs. Also anticipating flash to see if it will stream stations that use ustream. I miss being able to listen to pirate stations and other obscure stuff that aren't avalaible on these online radio things
+1 on the kinoma stream. I miss listening to XM online like I used to on all my previous treos. As far as pirated stuff... Checkout shoutcast.
+1 more for kinoma. I used to use that on winmo and it was pretty awesome. Basically all-in-one media app. Hope it comes to webos because I can definitely see it being awesome on webos.

another one NOT for EU. Well it is really no fun reading news about apps anymore:

SlingBox! Got plenty of radio apps. Time for some good TV apps.
I agree. We need some slingplayer love.
There was a report that Sling stated their web/online service (w/access to your SlingBox) would be supported in WebOS 1.4, once Flash has been fully implemented. As far as an actual Navtive WebOS App is concerned, I don't know if we'll see one any time soon. I was on the Beta Team for the original SlingPlayer Mobile (for Win PPC), a well as other betas. I'm pretty sure I would see/hear something if/when they get close to an launch. Meanwhile, I look forward to the Flash support SOON!
It will work with the updated sling boxes that transmit flash. Those that are .wmv based, will not likely be working. Hopefully, Sprint/VZ wont demand Sling be hobbled like the Iphone app.
CANADA, EU,UK, MEXICO,&the rest.Paid Apps is coming ur way next month ok. In the main time just chill, until than.Sooner or later, your gonna have access to all the 3D gaming,& polished Apps. Next month which is in march,is not too fall away. For now,we all are waiting for Ver. 1.0.4 UPDATE: VIDEO RECORDING(680x480),which is in HD, FLASH 10.1, SPEED,& overall performance. So be patient until than. Can't wait!
1.4 right?
It's 640x480. That's VGA, which is not considered HD (it's ED, enhanced definition).
YAY FINALLY! I've been waiting ever since release for Slacker to come (even been pestering them on Twitter hehe). Love it!
Where is last.fm ???? Come on!

I'm liken slacker, pretty nifty set up, I like it better than Pandora anyway.
Anyone else having an issue with no audio from Slacker?
i was getting bored of pandora!!!!!! nice app!!
I cant wait for the Grooveshark app comes to WebOS!
+1 for Grooveshark - Coming soon.

Slacker looks very good too though.
i don't like the fact that they have ads in it trying to get you to upgrade lame ill stick with Pandora
I get an AD about every three songs. And after each AD it stops playing and I have to close it and reopen it. Other than that very nice. But it needs fixed. And get rid of the Upgrade button and make the important buttons bigger. We know we can upgrade already and we can do that through the menu.
This is free yet not available in Canada? Why palm why, wheres the love?
Accuradio, Pandora, Netstreams Pro, Radiotime and now Slacker Radio....I don't think I'm short on radio ever...lol
so where do I download it. Preware ? already checked apps and its defenitly not in there.
unless your in the states you cannot get it
I am really liking this and sounds great off of my jabra cruiser which fm transmites to my car radio.sounds better and more clear then pandora.
I have a Slacker G1, and let me tell you that their mobile apps are a dream to use compared to their own hardware. I've never seen a buggier POS in all my days.
The Slacker service, on the other hand, is unparalleled and amazing. If you spend some time creating your own custom stations online, it becomes a very rewarding listening experience, and you'll likely discover a ton of new music to enjoy.
Also, check out the user-created custom station forum:
http://forums.slacker.com/share-your-stations-f7.html
Many are kind of cruddy, but the ones where the creators spent a good amount of time customizing their stations are often better than the 'official' stations.
Help!
I had Slacker Radio on my Blackberry Storm and it synced perfectly with my bluetooth audio in my car. (new ford)
Now that I got a Palm Pre slacker radio only works when I am not using bluetooth on my phone. When blutooth is on, there is no audio from phone or in car.
It will not work with sync. Anyone know how to troubleshoot this?
