Smiley faces in the Messaging App [webOS 2.1] 8
by Adam Marks Thu, 10 Mar 2011 12:18 pm EST
Just as in webOS 1.x, webOS 2.0 allows you to access a limited set of Smiley Faces by pressing the Sym key and then the “K” on the keyboard. However, webOS 2.1 introduced another option to get to a larger set of smileys by pressing the Option (Orange/Silver) key and the Spacebar. A pop-up will appear with 20 graphical smileys for you to choose from. Right now it appears that this is just limited to the Messaging app, and it has to be within an already existing conversation.

Very nice... Sooo happy to see graphical representations of the emoticons here!!
I didn't even know I could do sym key + k on my original pre. This isn't intuitive at all!
And what would be intuitive? Face recognition maybe? Seems like a good, easily accessible implementation to me.
Yeah, both tips are new to me!
Great to see this tool. Makes texting a personal feel
Omg do you know how many times I've accidently do this and I could never figure out how I did it. Thanks for the tip, now I realize how I did it haha.
why is it not so smoothly? for example, under the original 1.4.5, I can choose the smiley, and it appears as a smiley, while converted to text after sent, by the new one, it appears as text and sent as text!
On 1.4.5 it only appeared as the image in the received message.
It is always going to actually be text in the message. It is just how the phone chooses to display the sequence of characters.
