Sprint can give you your Premier upgrade one last time if they really feel like it 23

by Derek Kessler Mon, 25 Apr 2011 9:33 am EDT

There’s been plenty of outrage over Sprint’s plans to split the Sprint Premier program into two tiers, one with an upgrade every two years, and the other retaining all the old perks, but requiring a more expensive plan. The basic gist is that the gold level customers need ten years or a $89.99 plan and get an annual $150 upgrade credit, while the silver tier members need a $69.99 plan and get $75 at one year and $150 at two.

If you’re the type that finds yourself in the new lower group due to your not-expensive-enough plan, we do have a glimmer of hope for you. According to SprintUsers, Sprint customer service representatives will have the ability to submit a “tier override” for a silver tier customer to get the gold tier upgrade benefit they lost. Of course, this puts some power in the rep’s hands, so if you’re looking to get your old upgrade back in this post-apocalyptic two-tier world we live in, then some sweet-talking might be in order.

To me, this is a moot point as it really doesn't matter right now. There isn't a phone that I'm interested in at Sprint. My Pre minus is on dialysis and there is no sign of life from the WebOS world on the Sprint front. I'd rather go to an iphone if all Sprint is going to carry is Android. *sigh*

True that! Well except about going iPhone. I am trying out Android and its seems ok to me, of course I would rather have WebOS but that just is not a option right now...

I agree as well. My Pre(-) is in shambles and acting whack, but I fear the Pre3 may not even make it to Sprint whenever it makes it out. I'm already eligible for upgrade since getting my Pre(-) on release day, but I was hoping to upgrade to a new webOS device. Alas now it looks like I may be holding out to see how the Evo3D looks on release.

I have been given an iPhone 3GS at work, but it has not won me over in the way webOS did. Maybe iOS 5 will be great later this year, but that will be after the Pre3 anyway. Not gonna wait for anything beyond the forever to arrive Pre3.

I have a shiny new refubished Pre because of the same issue. Take yours over to a Sprint repair center and they will order you a replacement for this known problem with a $35 "repair fee" and you are on your way.

I also bought a $15 bad ESN PrePlus on Ebay and did the comm board swap and then installed WebOS 2.1.0 so it is way nicer than the regular old Pre- . If you are still on Sprint and want a much better device to hold you over, you can't beat it for $50 total.

Hmm, I thought they said it'd be more like $75 for a replacement phone but maybe I heard them wrong. Also, I was not in the mood to be waiting a week for a refurb to arrive and chance the uncertainty of all my settings/apps being readily available.

How long did you have to wait for your refurb to arrive?

Also, I suppose I should uninstall the SuperPre kernel app, Free Tether, and the host of other Preware apps first. Ugh, so much work for a lazy guy like me. And I hope they don't mind that I have taken it apart (i.e. put the **** tip through the Palm logo **** in order to clean off the camera lens.

I had an issue with my phone "touching itself", I took it in on Friday night and had a new phone on Tuesday. For free. I have the insurance though, which I thought was kind of a rip off until this process.

Definitely get a new device. My new one is great: no oreo, a really smooth and solid feeling slider, a clickier keyboard. Your apps download automatically on the new device, and with synergy I was up and running in about an hour.

Let's hope this is true, Sprint upgrade credit on the horizon?

I have been with sprint for about 12 years but if they don't bring the Pre3 or a new phone that runs WebOS I might switch to Verizon even if it ends up costing me a little more.

Why should I have to sweet talk and beg for a rep to give it to me. They should just do it if a customer asks. I'm not going to call and beg in order to give me something, either give it to me or don't. Don't string me along or make me beg.

Those of you on the fence about switching, do it. Try it and see what you think, I switched to Android after being a long time Palm user and it's one of the best decisions I made. So, I have a Palm pre(-) for sale if anyone want mine. I've babied it but it has a few nicks here and there but overall it's is very good shape, got a touchstone I'll throw in, email me if interested: jmaestro1 at gmail.

Hmm. Might have to take you up on that phone. My Pre(-) has been acting crazy for the past month or so. It will go on these tangents where it acts like I'm touching the screen all over and starts opening stuff all over the place and I can barely get the apps closed before it opens something else. The worse was when my wife had to ask me why I sent her two random picture messages with no text, only to find out my phone had opened the photo app and managed to share them via mms. Thankfully I haven't been uploading them to Facebook randomly...yet.

Sorry, I replied to your other post above by accident ... check it out up there ^^^
My phone actually dialed 911 while on the touchstone before I took it in for $35 replacement. It was out of warranty too.

No problem. I replied to your comment up there as well. Thanks for the info. This other rumor tidbit about a phone not coming to Sprint until August might just have me deciding to go for that refurb.

This article should be posted when a new webOS device is actually released on Sprint. Upgrading now really means leaving webOS as others have said there are no other devices to upgrade the Pre to.

I had a Pre, but I decided to get a Pre 2 and Sprintify it until another device is available. I actually like the Pre 2 and will hold me until it falls apart as well.

Ill need some form of announcement regarding the Pre3 before i bother with an upgrade. I dont even care if Sprint gets it or not at this point, just tell me so I can stay or move on to a garbage phone.

My fiancé works at Radioshack and he says that if you would be eligible for upgrade based on the old sprint premier program anytime between now and April of 2012 then you can upgrade now at Radioshack until the end of April. I just upgraded from a pre to an epic in November, but I am going to upgrade today to an EVO.

Well then your husband is much nicer than the people at Radio Shacks where I live. I called Sprint regarding this and my wife's phone on the old premier was eligible in like September of this year but now she is not eligible until next year. I called Radio Shack based on your post and they stated she was not eligible until next year as well.

She has a Hero and not liking it that much so was hopeful she would be eligible in Sep.

I myself am an original Pre owner so I am eligible on May 1 so I am good to go for the upgrade.

this April. So you only have a couple days left. Or I guess take your chances with a sprint rep.

I never understood this program change. I have been a member since 96 (yah, seriously) and I have been told I can only upgrade every 22 months and that I don't have a Premier account. Yet, I constantly get emails and packets (very pricey elaborate brochures and packets printed on heavy booklets) that detail all the benefits of my Premier status. Yet, anytime I've tried to upgrade in less than 22 months (i.e. when I got my original Pre minus) they say that either I don't have Premier status, or after I show them the booklet they say the early upgrade isn't available on those phones (i.e. when I got my Pre minus on release day!). So, I have to pay extra anyway.

Sprint is pure ****

I just hope the rumors of a new HP/Palm phone without any physical keyboard come out Sprint in August is true, and i would really like that!

36 days until my contract with Sprint expires. June 6th, 2011: a new era in my smartphone life.

I got a shout out for my post in the forums, Woot!

Alright, So, I was obviously one of the people who was affected by this change. I was on the lower family plan and 3 months before I was able to upgrade they changed it.

After seeing this, i called sprint just now and asked them about this. The first guy said he couldn't do anything and I was probably out of luck, but he generously transferred me to another department to try and resolve the issue.

The next guy, right away said that he could do a reset on my upgrade and within 24 hours I would be able to upgrade.

But, Once I do upgrade, I would have to switch to the higher plan in order to get the 1 year upgrade.

So pretty much, Call sprint, Tell them that you were affected by premiere status change.
They will transfer you.
The guy/girl will reset your upgrade eligibility.
in 24 hours you will be able to upgrade for the 150$ discount(as normal)
Then in order to get the one year upgrade again, move up the the higher costing plan.

yay :)
