Sprint Data Issues? 102

by Dieter Bohn Fri, 05 Feb 2010 2:14 pm EST

Jay points us to this PreCentral Forum Thread where folks in New Jersey, New York, Detroit, and Philly seem to be having issues with data on Sprint. Our pals at CrackBerry.com's forums also are posting sporadic reports of the same. Twitter isn't exactly aflame with ire, but then again if data was out on Sprint, it might be hard for people to tweet it up, though @jakeroz did just tweet up that Sprint Support says there are outages. Anybody out there with Sprint data issues?

Update: looks like most folks have data now, move along. :)

I probably did not notice this fine morning because I have WiFi at home and work.

My heart to Pixi Classic users.

Last week I had no Data for about 5 hours. Wifi worked of course. That was the first time I had any sort of problem... I'm in Orlando...

mines fine.. in dallas tx.. all-star weekend almost here baybeeee! lol

Had a brief period of outage last night with my Samsung Moment anf the g/f`s Pixi. Internet wouldn't connect and she kept gettting a data connection error. I thought it was due to the weather since it was storming and all. But a battery pull didn't help out. Stayed off for about a half hour. I'm in Sacramento, Calif.

Had about 30 minute outage in New York, it's fine now.

In CT, while the Pre was sleeping on the stone I got 3 notifies, all back-to-back, that Data was failing and I should call Sprint. After a reset, all was well.

I have been sporadically getting error messages on my pre saying that it could not establish a data connection at the time and to contact sprint. Very annoying!

Don't you DARE come in here and rub our faces in your new Verizon service, Mr. Bohnage.

No problem where I am (about 5 hours north of Detroit, yet still in America).

Am in Detroit area I have no problem at all.
People with this issue they must staying long time on the web with clearing the cookies and the catch on them phones.
Sprint has the Data I been with them over 8 years, I had T-Mobile and ATT non work good as Sprint...

Good here in Indiana.. I'm on my phone now.

Boston OK

was out for a little bit, kicked back in about 20 mins. Central NJ/PA area.

mine was out here in syracuse, NY. A friend of mine with a pre suggested turning airplane mode on and off. That worked.

I live and work just a few miles (5ish) from Detroit and am currently streaming Pandora, Sending and Receiving emails, and getting the weather without a problem, and at the same time. On my original, bought on the day it came out, Palm Pre.

No problems here in Norther Virginia (Vienna/Tysons Corner specifically)

turned off wifi and using my sprint 3G now. No probs and I am in Suburban Philly, no probs here! May the towers were scared of the impending snow?

Eastern NC here, zero defects. All is fast and smooth. Kudos to Sprint, best cell service I've ever had. Knock on wood, 6 years counting and not a single dropped call, ever.

i lost data for about an hour in hampton virginia. I think i fixed it on my own. I just enabled data roaming, then immediately disabled it again... problem solved.

I was having issues earlier but it didn't last very long at all. I'm located Long Island, NY.

milwaukee area here. Have had intermittent issues since last night. Just with the web browser tthough. Thought was related to a browser patch as when I remove it the problem goes away?

Yes, out for about 30 min in NYC, but back now.

Yesterday afternoon around 1:00PM Eastern I received a messages on my screen that said "Your phone could not establish a data connection. Call Sprint for help (66).".

I did not call but I simply restarted my Pre and it magically picked up the data connection without issue and worked. Have not seen the issue since then.

Salt Lake City is good although about a month ago I had the same issue for about an hour.

Things working ok for me - @ Downtown NYC right now..

New York here, Long Island area, data connection is working fine at the momment and was working at around 7AM EST today (last time I used it).

EVDO is up and running in Sioux Falls, SD

This morning my pre went offline. Just reset the phone. No problem after that. From Fort Lauderdale, FL

In Pittsburgh, I kept getting that could not establish thing...... error 66.... but thats the third time thats ever happened to me....... I think its a software bug.

Wichita, KS is working fine.

I had an issue around 10ish or so in NYC. I almost made a post about it, but didn't when I asked other non-Pre Sprint users at work if they had any issues. They didn't, and a complete power down of the phone helped resolve my issue. Restarting didn't help me reestablish a data connection.

No problems in Overland Park, KS. Of course it helps to be a mile away from the Sprint Corporate Campus.

I was out for about 15 mins, rebooted 2 times then its been fine since.

Streaming Slacker Radio/ checking emails/texting

I'm about 45mins north of NYC

i haven't had too much trouble with my palm pre but i regularly have issues with my sprint mifi card. considering i pay $60/mo for a sole-use card i only get 5GB data on i expect it to be more reliable when it is in use. alas, i accept credit as the fool for signing a 2yr contract on the thing.

I ALWAYS get that message and I'm in CA. It will pop up when I'm not using the phone, but it doesn't stop me from doing anything. I think its a temporary break in the service or something but its never prohibited me. It is really annoying though.

I was getting error 129 data loss for a while...I ran webOS doctor last night, and I haven't had it so far today

I was having a problem last night. (Utah)

In NYC I'm getting data connections in intervals and arc burst.
I was wondering are they throttling the data network.
Using My Tether, I can get up to a 128k burst for 10-15 seconds then a steep drop off, then a stall out. If you refresh a download it'll will arc back up and then the same thing happens all over again. Very frustrating.

All is fine in Eugene, Oregon!

Had this issue in Atlanta...working fine now

All good in NJ

So far the Orlando, FL metro area is ok. Prolly some maintenance going on up there.

I was out for a couple hours in IA.

I'm in NYC and my data service was down for about 20-25mins I believe. I tried restarting my pre and still no luck. I decided when i got back to my office I would futher investigate. By the time i got back my data service was active again.

im fine in chicago

Data went out for about a half an hour here in midtown Manhattan. No biggie.

Fine on the west side of MI. Had an odd problem the first part of the week though, my phone's clock starting running faster and faster (finally got about 15 min ahead). Tried turning the network time off then back on, but didn't help. Rebooted phone this morning and the time was correct, but waiting to see if it speeds up over the next few days.

Just fell off the map in Sunnyvale, CA (right around the corner from palm) no data, sms, or voice. Reset my phone and am fine for now.

There was an outage with the AIRRAVE in the USVI

I had problems jan1 from 12am to alittle past 3am my ev simbol on the pre would not showup I could make calls but no internet I called sprint and the call just dropped

It was out earlier (in Philly) but it's back on now.

I had problems jan1 from 12am to alittle past 3am my ev simbol on the pre would not showup I could make calls but no internet I called sprint and the call just dropped

No problems for me, with my Pre or 3g aircard. Philadelphia Suburban area here.

No problems here in South Texas or in Houston. Running like a champ!

no problems for me, though my friend had some problems, I'm in jersey now, but was in NY earlier today, no problems here.

My Palm Pre has been receiving and sending 3G data w/o problems. However, there have been moments where data connection drops for a couple seconds but I'm guessing the snow/ice storms in the east are what's messing w/ towers.

This happened in Eastern California and Western Nevada last week for about 12 hours. Only it wasn't just data service, it was all Sprint service.

had this problem one month ago in slc utah.

then yesterday about 2 pm for several hours in anaheim ca. called sprint and then had me pull the battery and they 'reset' my data plan. it worked. back up and running after that...

No data problem in Southern Utah. I love being in a small town but having EVDO.

We had a short outage around 11 am in Vermont...came back up around 11:15...at the time my rep had no known outages in the system. He checked the three towers near me and all reported that they were okay...strange...

None here in NC , near the capital city.

I'm in Princeton, NJ. No problems here.

WARNING,WARNING! I know this is off topic. The creepy girl,is back in the new Verizon PALMPRE PLUS commercial. Here is the link:http://www.everythingpre.com/

I was having issues this morning but everything seems fine now.. NYC

Creepy girl is back. This is the link to the new verizon PALMPRE PLUS,commercial: http://www.everythingpre.com/

I am in Denver, no problems here, been streaming Slacker all morning. Funny thing about it is that about 20 of our AT&T iPhones were having data issues for a few hours this morning. Sprint Pre had no problems.

Data was down for me in Philly (19103) around 10:30am EST...

All's fine and haven't noticed any issues up in Burlington, VT

wow another vermonter PRE user...

For me in south burlington data was down from 10:30 to 11am

Waco, TX at Baylor University and everything is working fine. (Palm Pre)

No data here.. Maybe my problem is due to the heavy snow going on outside :)

Elizabeth, NJ...Had issues this morn for a bit...back in business now.

No problem in Olean, New York.

it was out in the morning for about 10 minutes but back up a short time later - about 10 minutes north of baltimore, MD

I had a data outage yesterday. Error 66. but it's been fine since then.

everything is fine inSAN JOSE CALIFORNIA

SPRINT ALWAYS WORK GREAT FOR ME AND ITS REALLY AFFORDABLE

Mine was out for only minutes. (PA) Amazing how much we expect from our suppliers. Maybe someone just tripped over the server's power cord.

San jose/ campbell south bay California sprint data fine

No problems I've seen in Colorado. Can't wait for 1.4 to drop.

it was down here in Vermont from 10:30 to 11am

all is well in wisconsin. been using data all day with no issues.

I lost data for a while, but I don't know how long because I was home most of this morning with WiFi.

Reading, PA - 1 hour NW of Philly

It happened for me around midnight on Monday or so, and I just turned my phone off for the night to stop it from notifying me every 15 seconds that it couldn't get a data connection. In the morning, it was fine. It happened again this afternoon, and I just restarted the phone, which seemed to fix it for me.

I'm about an 1.5 hours south of Philly.

Hudson County, New Jersey no problems here, so far.

Mine craps out randomly when I'm streaming music on Pandora or Slacker Radio. It decides to roam whenever it gets stressed.

Here in Philly, no noticeable problems.

I had data issues for last few days. I couldn't setup PPP session. Hence, couldn't do any data transfer. I thought it was just my phone or something.

Sprint needs to fix this and improve service to keep the folks they have and not lose any more customers.

They also need to come out with palm pre square....palm pre ^2. with 32G internal memory and 1G RAM and blow away iphone....:-)

I'm outside of Cincinnati,OH

On the 4th I lost data connection for about an hour on my Pre.

It had me concerned because I had just installed my first patches the night before. Tried a reboot nothing. Checked my wife's Centro and she had a 3G signal. The cell tower is almost in our backyard.

It finally just started working again.

Could it be some kind of network upgrade that Sprint is working on? It would have to only effect some 3G devices and not others...

Data just fine here for me....Detroit, MI

No problem in Tampa, Florida

Wow, I had lots of problems today at 4pm. That's Friday 2/5/2010 on the Grand Central Hwy, going to Richmond Hill, near Forest park near zip code 11418.

I thought it was funny, because I almost never have problems with the data connection, it's either there or its not.

This was jumping on and off all over the place as I was trying to stream a radio talk show.

Rob

I had an outage today at work for about an hour around 11 AM in NOVA

i'm in nyc, on sprint - been having data problems over the past couple of days, on and off. usually i restart and it takes care of the problem, but the past couple of days restart didn't change anything. data's been fine today, though.
how long should one have data problems before calling Sprint, I wonder.

I live in Milwaukee, for past couple of weeks I would get error messages saying you lost your data connection, but it would only be for couple seconds and then it would work just fine.

just downloaded 1.4 and all is well now ................. ok I lie

I had it in central Ohio too. All better now though. It didn't last very long. I was at home so I could've just used wifi if I could get it to work.

suburban philly...yes outages..

Sprint must be having problems because I suffered outages when this article first came out and it fixed itself but... I'm suffering the same "Could not establish data connection" error... I hope this isn't a recurring trend and they fix this quick.

Suburban Philly - Chester County. No EVDO right now. On WiFi.

UPDATE: Reset the Pre and data is back. Weird.

I was in Las Vegas for 4 days (24-28) and I was getting the data popup constantly out there.
