Sprint Finally cuts Pre, Pixi Pricing 19

  Sprint Price Drop

True to the details we dropped Friday before last, Sprint has finally gotten with the price drop program and lowered the prices for the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi on their network. The Pre now comes in at $49.99 after mail-in rebate while the Pixi is free after mail-in rebate.

Of course, these prices still don't compare all that favorably to the prices for the better devices on AT&T and Verzion. Verizon has both the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus for free with free mobile hotspot and AT&T also has them both available for free as well. Of course, it's arguable that over the life of a plan that Sprint is still the better deal by dint of their lower plan prices - but we're still feeling like the network with the most Palm users could had managed to try to do right by them a little sooner.

It should be zero dollars, still 50 dollars is a lot better than 150. I wonder if Sprint will still sell pre when the new WebOS device comes out.

I agree, at this point, why waste time trying to squeeze 50 bucks out on a device that is 15 months old. But, they may be concerned with getting the Pixi to sell as it lacks WiFi and other items. So a minor premium on Pre might be needed to give the Pixi value. May also depend on inventory levels, they might have a few more Pixi's gathering dust.

Looking forward to some "Sold Out" tags so we get the details on the next gen device. Feels like we're awfully close.

Do right by whom? Sprint Pre customers already have the Pre. Why do they need cheaper Pre's and Pixis when they already own one?

There are SERO legacy users on sprint that have never upgraded to get the PRE. I am one of them. My Hold out looks like it may pay off. Rumors are out there that Sprint will allow SERO users to get Iconic phone for a 10$ up charge. That means ill be able to get the Pre for 50 bones and only pay 40$ a month for service. This is great news.

Sprint should pay us to get a pre or a pixi! But about time! My lcal Sprint store didn't even have the Pre on display anymore!

I just hope sprint gets the new palm phone first when one comes out.

Doesn't beat the HP deal: FREE. No MIR or anything.

Yes but HP will charge you $18 for activation. i just put my order through HP yesterday just to find out Sprint lowered their price as well. I wonder if I can call Sprint and get that activation charge taken off after the fact.....

Also, does anyone know what is the deal with returns/repairs of phones ordered directly from HP? Can I just take it to a Sprint store?

Any personal experiences?

Oh and by the way...if you go through Sprint.com and go all the way to the Check Out page on NEW accounts and then cancel your order, Sprint will offer a $50 credit if you proceed with the order. Might be something to use as leverage when getting the Pre/Pixi over the phone with them.

True about the $18. They also add a $10 shipping fee. To me though, $28 is still a lot better than $50 + the $100 MIR.

my shipping was free when I ordered it 2 days ago....I guess they changed it now

But if you want to try your luck calling Sprint....tell them that online you can use the SAVE50 promo code....maybe they will give you the $50 credit even though it is only for new accounts and not upgrades. This has worked for me before tho so u never know.

Seriously, guys, Sprint is soooooo much cheaper monthly than Big V and Apple T&T that I really don't mind the upfront cost of the phones. Now, from a competitive standpoint, maybe this will induce more people to get the Pre or Pixi, which is good for webOS, but I can't really complain about Sprint charging me more for the phone up front but far less over the contract period than the others.

hopefully they will use this slight profit boost to consider the new HP WebOS device(s), and by that I mean derive some user interst to support the tablet as well as the smartphone

heck, let them call it something with "first", like the EVO, the same way VZW calls everything droid.

If sprint isn't first with the new phone(s), then it should be a close 2nd. We have been loyal & have the largest user base so I don't think that can be ignored. If Sprint isn't first then that may because either sprint wan't happy with the original sales (or returns) or that HP wasn't happy with the sprint sales or promotions/advertising. But I think it would be a huge statement for HP to release on multiple cariers on the same day & show that they have the scale & resources to pull it off!

Sprint still bests them in the data plan.
I'm guessing (not all that insightful) that Sprint is skipping a generation, skipping the Plus version, because the new ones are so close to being here. Anyone have insight to the amount of work Sprint needs to put into support for a new device? Besides training sales and support staff, advertising, marketing (what exactly to charge for it), etc.

and when the phone gets mest up is 100 $ to get it back wtf really I hate sprint we have to use these old tech how left out I feel

Sure you get more for your money with Sprint service, but why penalize us with the $100 rebate just for the lower priced monthly service? Some can't afford to wait 8 weeks to get the money back....me for one. $150 up front IS way too much while other carriers have it for considerably less. Sprint still is clueless. I have a Treo Pro and regret spending that kind of money on it and will not make that mistake again, no matter how much I would like a Pre. All I can hope for is service price cuts from the other carriers or a "web special" price from Sprint for the phone. Darn you Sprint!!!
