Sprint Offers $100 Service Credit to New Pre Switchers 26

by Dieter Bohn Tue, 08 Sep 2009 3:06 pm EDT

Well now, things are getting interesting. While Sprint-affiliate IPCS is offering the Palm Pre for $150 after rebate, Sprint itself will be offering a $100 credit to all new customers who sign up and buy the Pre before October 31st Octbober 10th, according to Reuters.

Sprint said on its website that the offer, which does not apply to existing customers, would be available for new Sprint customers who sign up before Oct. 31 [update: the actual date is Oct 10] and commit to a 2-year service contract. The service credit would be added to customer invoices over a 3-month period, the company said.

Although the initial purchase price will remain $299 with a $100 mail-in rebate, the extra $100 dollars over the first three months would could go a long way towards helping Sprint grab more customers. We just called Sprint to confirm (the announcement is also up on Sprint's site, thanks Anonymous Commenter!) and they're saying that the new promotion only applies to customers who port their number in from another carrier, so Sprint is clearly trying to grab some marketshare while they still have exclusivity on the Pre.

There has been rumblings recently that the Pre isn't living up to sales expectations, number-wise, time will tell if this promotion can help turn that around.

Thanks to jpquezada for the tip!

Update: Roger lets us know that the credit also applies to activations for phones purchased from "The Shack" (do we really have to call it that from now on?).  Presumably it will apply to any new customer who ports a number, regardless of where they purchase it.  Thanks, Roger!

I'm eagerly awaiting the Palm pre to come to Sweden (I currently own an Iphone and hate it for many reasons) but to tell you the truth, videos like this scare the shit out of me. Is this common or what?

Having to return six Palm pres til' you get one that holds for atleast one week?

It does happen, but it is not common, and is becoming less and less so with newer build phones. But I can attest, I have a launch day pre with no dead pixels, or any screen issues. I do have the slider/shut off loose battery issue, but that didn't show up until 2 months of having the phone. (And a piece of paper is a very simple fix)

Why do early adopters always get screwed. I ported my number over not even 2 months ago and can't get this additional $100. This bites

Screwed? You own a new phone out of that deal.

Besides, early adopters always bear more of a burden for new devices/technology, and it will NEVER change.

If you don't like feeling screwed per say, don't buy something until it has been out for at least 3-5 months.

I brought this up earlier in the forums. If you buy it from radioshack it is $199 out the door, plus the $100 credit somewhere between 30 to 60 days.

Its funny the fine print on Sprint's website says, "while supplies last". Does that have a deeper meaning? I imagine they won't run out of $100 credits, so...

I understand some early adopters are upset with regard to price cuts on the Pre. But guys look at it this way. The more people that owns the Pre, the better Palm will do and the more Developers will want to create apps for WebOs. I will order my Palm pre next weekend with the knowledge that there will probably be more price cuts to come by years end.

hmm so this is why our $.99 Pre deal was just canceled today. Heres to the people that got in on that prior! Congrats.

Best Buy is also able to do the same, just btw.

if anyone was curious they are NOT extending this offer to Advantage Club Members, i called earlier to check but they said cannot offer it on these plans....wishful thinking....

They just canceled the offer. Sprint says it was an "error".
