Sprint Pixi now free after contract, too 39
In a move surprising precisely no one, Sprint has made the Palm Pixi free after a 2 year contract and 'instant savings,' which is to say there is no mail-in rebate. This was inevitable after Verizon did the same for the Wi-Fi-enabled Pixi Plus.
Sprint is still selling the original Palm Pre for $149.99, however, while Verizon has it back 'up' to $49.99 after briefly selling it for only $29.99. While Sprint's overall plan prices are definitely cheaper than Verizon's, Verizon still arguably offers the better deal as they are also still including Mobile Hotspot for free.
Sprint website, thank to jhoove09 for the tip!

I'd get my fiance the Pixi because her Instinct s30 just aint cutting it for her. She's always on my phone playing games and browsing the web. She's even gone as far to say, "I'm never getting a full touch screen phone ever again."
Those who doubt the power of the Pixi variants need to watch Palm's developer videos. You'll realize that in the coming months (through optimization) of the webOS platform + hardware tweaks to Pixi via OTA updates, the little puppy will transform into a full fledged bulldog.
...this was part of Palm's plan ;)
How do you do "hardware tweaks to Pixi via OTA updates" over the air. Must the matter-anti-mater theory that I missed in school cause I was sleeping.
I am not sure I agree with this line of speculation. He was probably meaning things like I mention, below, that change the hardware being used:
1) Overclock (or "right-clock") the CPU
2) Start using the GPU for Luna and other things
Those two could, indeed, make a MAJOR impact on the Pre/Pixi performance and experience.
Um, Palm Pixi Plus is still free on Verizon.

(Probably asks for zipcode)
Um, that is what the article says. Then it goes on to say the Pre is "up" to $49.99.
Oh ur right. Guess it was too early for me, read it fast. Thanks
First time given credit for the tip... nice.
Haha I saw this yesterday on Sprint's site but I didn't know it was new news.
Hey wait, it has been free for a while now... You guys are slacking... My wife took advantage of the offer on May 4th... I didn't say anything because I thought you guys had already reported it. Weird...
P.S.-- My wife LOVES her phone and finally understands why I LOVE my Pre so damn much
Go HP + Palm
IMPORTANT ADOBE FLASH INFO!!!
Ok so I was super stoked when Adobe stated that the Palm Pre would be the first smartphone to run it's Flash 10.1 software among the masses. Do you all remember that? So I just read that the HTC Evo comes out June 4th for $199 (new 2yr) and it will have Flash 10.1! This made my blood boil >=/
I could be jumping the gun and along with the webOS update hitting the end of this month Adobe will give us Flash via App Cat...that would be sweet. If not however, they'd have some damn explaining to do.
I don't really care if I have Flash or not - it's just the principle of the whole deal. It's not right to say one thing then do a completely different thing. Yes many live their lives like that...it doesn't make it right.
hell ya, you rite it's not rite I was bumed I hop they annouce something some
rite?
Pixi sales must be worst than the Pre. I have never ever ever ever seen a Pixi in the wild. I have occasionally seen Pre's and I've seen the Pre relatively often lately. However I've never seen a VeriZon pre in the wild.
Will the Pixi owners stand up? Do they actually exist?
Well, their existence is up for debate...but if you want to REALLY talk about mythical creatures, what is your position on Leprechauns?
Nessie? Anyone? Bueller?
Yes, they exist. After members of my family used my Pre, now we have a Pixi Plus, two Pres and three Pixis. With the AT&T launch, I think there may be a Pre Plus coming.
That's really interesting. In my neighborhood alone, my 12 son and two of his friends have a Sprint Pixi. It's possible that my son was a trendsetter there, but I think they each independently decided that a cheap touchscreen smartphone was a good idea. That said, each one of them would prefer the Pre b/c of the games that it can run.
When my next upgrade comes around, my Pre will go to my son and his Pixi to my wife - replacing her LG Rumor 2.
Nice cycle, you get the new phones.
Just for a FYI to everybody, teens are loving the Pixi. When I asked my classmate whether he likes his Pixi, he said, "Its Legit!".
Well, yeah. I pay for them. If they want new phones they can pay for them.
BTW, that should have been 12yo son. I don't have 12 sons. My name is not Jacob.
Half of my high school has Pixi's. Yeah, that's a lot of Pixi's. And its a small town in California.
I've seen one other Pre in the wild (sans the two Plusses I convinced my friends to buy) and never seen a Pixi.
My family has four Palm phones. Two Pres (father/daughter)and two Pixis (mother/son)

Sprint still has the better deal with their Everything Data plan which includes Free Cell to Cell calling, unlimited text messaging, free minutes starting at 7:00pm, no extra fee for MS exchange, and superior navigation. Installing My Tether or Mobile Hotspot is free and easy on Sprint too.
Sprint Pixi has been free for almost 2 weeks
Sprint Pixi has been free for almost 2 weeks
Yeah, I thought it had been free for awhile now...
yeah this has been like this for a while. My wife FINALLY traded in her Instinct for the Pixi two weeks back. She couldn't be happier now and I actually really like the pixi. (I have a Pre)
just got one for my gal, it's dam cheap enough, only adds 35 bux a month for the extra line. 1500 minutes shared on sprint, if you mostly call other cell phones ur good
Yeah, it has definately been free for a few weeks now. I bought my wifes Pixi when it was $49.99 and received a credit a couple weeks ago when it dropped to free. Unless I am missing something and this is for something else?
wow. Everyone putting pressure on at&t...
Why no love for dropping the price on the Pre? Come on guys, my wife wants a new phone -- and would rather have a Pre. But that $149 for a phone that is a year old and has been updated on other carriers? Come on already....just let me get a Pre Plus on Srpint, I'd gladly pay the $149 for that for her...
You can get the EVO for $199. Pre is way over priced on Sprint.
And you will have to add an ADDITIONAL $10 A MONTH to the data plan for an EVO..... that's $120 more every year! Welcome to 4G, another excuse to raise service prices....
I can't help but wonder whether or not Sprint keeps their phone prices high because they charge so little for their service. I mean you can get the same package on Sprint that you can get on Verizon or AT&T with a pretty nice cut in cost. I guess they have to make it up somewhere right?
I would much rather pay more for a phone and less for service. You almost always come out way ahead. Unfortunately, the "masses" out there don't seem to "get it"... they just see the price of a phone and don't even think about what they are paying over 2 or 3 years!
So when will it be free in the Sprint stores?
The phones might be more expensive on Sprint, but the plans are definitrly cheaper. And you can get mobile hotspot for your phone, it is just not an official version.
Oh man - I waited too long. It's back to $50 with a mail-in rebate. :(
