Sprint Posts Yet More Losses, Needs That Pre 28

Sprint has just posted their quarterly results for Q1 2009.  Here's a little quiz for you: how do you know when a quarter went badly for a company?  ...When the press release spends the first paragraph talking about how much liquidity and cash on hand the company has instead of just giving you the revenue, profit, and loss.  It sends a message and the message is: "hey guys, we're not dead yet!"

Things actually were slightly less bad than they have been in quarters past.  Sprint managed to hold losses to $594 million for the quarter (trust us, it's been worse) and also lost about 182,000 subscribers, whereas in quarters past we've seen that number closer to one million.  Luckily for them and for their commercials, they still have over 49 million subscribers.

Sprint is of course looking forward to the Palm Pre launch to help drag the company out of its doldrums.

I have been a customer for over 10 years and like Sprint. The "net" loss of only 182K subscribers is good, but the fact they lost over 1M postpaid is still a little concerning.

BTW - does their qtr'ly postpaid losses pretty much match ATT's qtr'ly gains? Meaning that as those customer contracts that want an iPhone expire at Sprint they are moving to ATT??

I just want the phone to be released. =[

> Actually I'm kind of excited if they force it, that will give
> me a reason to get the iPhone

Doesn't that result in you paying more "just because of a phone" anyway?

> Sprint and SERO users had an unspoken agreement of undying
> love, servitude and faith in one another.

lol

Sprint service covers nearly everywhere in the States I go. If I were to take my exact service plan to another carrier they'd charge me twice as much for the same thing. Attitude and service at AT&T is horrible in the stores around me, if their sales is that bad I'd hate to rely on them for support. And Verizon stores seem to think their sh*t doesn't stink, and keep talking up the Blackberry (since they can't offer a Treo or even an iPhone). No thanks.

Sprint being around is a good thing for everyone, if only for the reason that competition keeps the other clowns in check. If AT&T and Verizon already charge $40/month for data access on a phone, imagine how ridiculous the price would be without Sprint to offer it up for $15/month!

And yet AT&T did it with the iPhone long before it had the "large category of Apps" and you still had to wait for "people to develop them."

I'm not saying the Pre is better or worse than the iPhone (I really don't care, to be honest). I'm just saying that a company forcing you to bigger plans is not unique to Sprint.
