Sprint Pre and Pixi drop to free at HP Wireless Central 20

by Dieter Bohn Tue, 31 Aug 2010 4:16 pm EDT

Free Sprint Pre Ok, we're totally not taking credit for this one - but a matter of days after we held a Sprint Palm Pricing Intervention, the Sprint flavors of the Palm Pre and Pixi have dropped down to their proper price over at HP Wireless Central: Free with activation.

Of course, the deals for other carriers are still slightly better - with deals like free activation, free touchstones, or a $30 credit tossed in. Yes, Sprint themselves are still selling the Pre for $149.99 after 2 year contract and a $100 mail-in rebate and the Pixi at $49.99 on the same terms.

Still, nice to see a little sanity come to these prices in their home base.

It's Pre-mania today with all this news!!!!!!!!!

so they do listen

Hot dang, anyone else feel like they're clearing out the old Pre for some new hardware?

LOL, gotta clear off the shelves for something better!

Bring on the new stuff!!!!

I should upgrade my wife to this!!!!

Does anyone know if this is free for 2 year upgrades or also available for 1 year upgrades?

I was eligible for a one year upgrade and I just bought this one. Seems to be good for either new or upgrades.

Considering the their sales record these's phones should have been free a year ago or just given away at the door...first come first serve. What took Sprint and hp so long when Amazon started doing it right away when they realized no one was buying these failed phones anymore.

looks like ol HP is turning up the heat.

Right now, for me it says free with bonus $50 gift card.

where's Predogs when you need him to say how dumb this is?

Sorry, I was putting another "kick me" sign on Kinster02.

You were critiquing my last post about price drops at Sprint. This isn't Sprint dropping the price. I said Sprint was likely holding their price because their stock was getting thin. So, this appears to be strong evidence that Palm is ready to sell new hardware. My only feeling on Sprint lowering the price is if you think it's too high, go buy from ATT and VZ and get more storage for the lower price. Easy enough, even you can figure that out.

FYI... it isn't free with one year upgrades on a second line. Only two years, or a Primary line on a family or an add-on line...

I think HP is doing this entirely themselves, and at a loss. Sprint's obstinance at keeping the Pre at its elevated pricing is baffling and makes me wonder about the health of their relationship with Palm and HP.

Most of Palm's customers are with Sprint. Sprint cant stand to lose Palm subscribers with the cheap ETF if they leave for WebOS on other carriers. And Palm cant stand to lose their Sprint customers if they jump to Epic or the next droid down the line. The relationship is fine. The CFO is not a spokesman, I'm sure Hesse spittled in the guys face in reaction to his statements. All the ATT and VZ WebOS users are new and not upgrade eligible, so Sprint will be part of the next release. But I doubt they get a total exclusive again.

My mother and mother-in-law just got a new pre to match mine and my wife's. And I got $100 to spend at hp.com. Sweet!

Oh yeah, $50 gift card included now.

Thanks for the tip precentral. My phone had a really bad crack down the front from dropping it and I am eligible for a free upgrade so I just got a new phone with $50 gift card. I was holding off for a new Palm phone but I can't pass up a free pre.

I just dropped mine for about the fifth time. Tiny crack in one corner, scuff in another corner, but the display area and gesture zone are unscathed. Enjoy the phone and gift card.

Sprint is the best network to be on with the Pre.
You can roam on verizon towers at no cost to the customer.
You get free turn by turn navigation
You get free Sprint TV
Unlimited any cell calling.

HPalm just need to release a phone that can do 4G and Sprint needs to get 4G all over the nation :)

Oh, and the algorithm for searching for a CDMA signal needs to be revisited. It kills the battery when you're 3 stories under ground and have no service.

Dude, if you have no service, then put the phone into Airplane mode. Takes all of 2 seconds to do and saves MASSIVE battery. You can still use the WiFi radio (just turn it back on after the phone goes into airplane mode) and your battery will last all day unless you are playing 3D games.
