Sprint Support Website: webOS 1.3.5 To Hit Today 153
We didn't find it under the Christmas Tree on Friday like a certain PreCentral editor and the rest of us webOS fiends were hoping for, but this is close enough to count: the Sprint support website is saying that webOS 1.3.5 is to be released today, and that 1.3.5 is indeed the current version.
Rubinstein mentioned during Palm's Q2FY2010 earnings call that we'd be seeing the update around CES next month, so if the Sprint support website is to be believed, they're free to announce something a little more exciting during their presentation... like announcing that Unreal Engine 3 has been ported over to webOS or some new hardware.
Here's Sprint's minimal changelog:
WebOS – 1.3.5
Build 194
Sprint Config – 2.0
12/28/2009
This update includes enhancements to the following:
- Improvement in battery life optimization when in marginal coverage areas.
- QCELP capability fix to allow play and audio of video sent via MMS.
- Launch Google Maps or Sprint Nav when tapping an address from contacts.
- Minimized package of MR size through binary difference. Customers can now download over 2G connections if necessary.

Well I've been up all night and now this... I guess I'm going to be up until the update hits! Ha.
Let the update button bashing commence...
No mention of app limit, I'm guessing that these might not be all the release notes.
Yep, it won't be the first time Sprint has published an incomplete changelog. My refresh button is going to get hit a lot today :)
Spring has jumped the gun before with posting the update, I hope not this time but I'll wait till my Pre tells me its time.
and just because sprint doesn't say it fixes the app limit doesn't mean it doesn't
I guess I'll keep trying today but right now my phone says it's up to date.
Question: When i updated from 1.2.1 to 1.3.1 it screwed up all my patches and stuff so i had to DR it and re-patch allll over again. so when i update to 1.3.5 will i have to re-patch by doing the webOS DR thing and patching or can i just update normally? and by screwed up my patches i mean everything i installed through preware didn't show up as installed so i had no clue what i had and didn't have and it didn't say when any patch/app had an update. also a bunch of them like landscape email virtual keyboard and web browser mods couldn't be re-installed. thx in advance for anyone that has the answer :) oh and i just thought of something, will palm ever block preware and should we be worried about updating like iphone/psp/wii users should be?
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS REMOVE PATCHES BEFORE AN UPDATE.
Easiest way: install the Emergency Patch Recovery tool (do a search to find out more).
webos internalz and preware devs. are working on this issue....in the future we will be able to perform a palm/sprint update without having to remove any patches, and the patches will automatically update themselves with the palm update...this is what they are working on!! so to me that update is bigger than 1.3.5 lol
Um, VenpaCasa. You really ought to give the forums a look. Of course you have to remove all of your patches. Every time Palm/Sprint release an update, it messes up everyone's patches. I doubt that this update is going to be any different.
Wenn ich das richtig sehe bringt das Update also keine wirkich brauchbaren
Well, I doubt they would release any update that didn't have at least SOME useful changes. But, like you say, it does sound like rather minor update.
Well, that isn't necessarily the WHOLE changelog....
THX guys just making sure and sorry i been up all night i honestly didn't even think about checking the forums but thanks for saving me some time in looking though. so we shouldn't worry about preware being blocked? i ask because i know that with my psp, and wii i have to be careful not to update and what not and i think its the same for iphone so i'm just wondering.
I wonder when it'll hit Europe. I hope we don't have to wait !
I have a bad felling about that- "QCELP capability" sounds a bit non-GSM.
So what if it is non-GSM? Sprint and Verizon are non-GSM.
my patches been removed all month still waiting for the update. Last time sprint released an update date it was delayed a week. So my bets goes to CES
@everybody-who-uninstalled-patches: Why on earth did you already remove your patches? Are you afraid that your device is going to update by itself before you get a chance?
I haven't had a single update so far that I haven't initiated myself...
It has happen to others. Some people find when they wake up, they found that their phone has auto-update. Mine won't do since I usually have Data connection/wifi off unless I'm using it. Keeping my patches on until I see confirmation that the update is live and then I'll remove.
Is that how it happens? That if your wifi is on and the update becomes live, then it would update automatically? Thanks for the tip, I turned off my wifi just in case 1.3.5 update go live.
All the patches installed are so useful that I hate to remove them until it is time.
I can see Sprint Headquarters from my house... still don
Can you just go knock on the door and see when this will drop?
Well here is to hoping! Unreal Engine being ported over would be sweet!
Help!! I removed all my patches and forgot that I had the password auto by pass patch installed and now I cant remember my password and cant get into my phone!!! Anyone know how to retrieve that or remove it all togather?
Nope.
Keep trying?
If there was a way to bypass the password, wouldn't that nullify the point of having a password?
There is a patch that does exactly that - bypass the password...
The patch allows you to not have to enter a password every time, yes.
But you cannot be prompted with a password, install a bypass patch or do some other messing with it, and get past the password prompt without knowing the password. This was my point. The password prompt is there for a reason and if there was a way to get past it without entering a password, it would nullify the point of the password.
Might as well tell Bank of America that you forgot your bank password, but would still like access to your account regardless. I mean, you had your browser auto-save your password, but then you deleted your auto-saved passwords. There should still be a way to access your account without your password though, right?
Not a good move...i think I heard your Pre say Checkmate
lol... I think you are right H-Cubed!
Sounds like WebOS Doctoring time to me.
As a follow up, I had to wipe my pre clean from the palm profile site...
And all this for the outlook exchange at work which I dont use anyway...
Do we need to remove the patch that removes the app limit before the update? If so...how do I do this? I've checked installed patches on Preware and hooked up my Pre to QuickInstall, but cannot find that patch. I know I still have it, though, because I can still download apps without getting the "not enough memory" error message. Suggestions? Thank you.
That patch is now an integrated part of Preware, I believe, part of the pckg mngr service, and if I understand correctly it won't be a problem. If really worried, you could remove Preware until after the update.
"QCELP capability fix to allow play and audio of video sent via MMS."
Thats friggin great!!!
Now if only we could actually RECORD video this may be of some friggin use!!
...smh...
Have you tried Precorder? Actually works pretty well...
Yea I've tried it and it does but I would like to be able to see what it is that I am recording...or an official app/position from Palm on this.
...I don't understand... A few weeks ago my friend sent me a little video from his iPhone and I played it just fine. And about a week ago I received a tiny audio clip and I played it just fine (.amr file I think?).
...So what exactly is this supposed to give us?
Maybe more compatibilty. I was sent video from a Blackberry(3gp) and I couldn't view it, so I'm hoping this helps. Also I get sent .wav when I get a voicemail on my home phone and I can't play those either.
I get little SMS messages, that are video clips on other phones, but just a pic on mine, maybe thats what it fixes
@Jonesey: Thank you!!
@Robert, if you scroll down on the Sprint Support page, it also lists that 1.3.5 is Sprint V2.2 and build 219
What does that mean?
I use Preware to check out new apps but haven't installed any Patches with it. Do we need to remove Preware, or just Patches?
Just the patches
The ability to route to Sprint Nav from the calendar. Yay!
That is a nice add. Sprint Nav with turn by turn is tremendously better than Google Map we have on Pre right now. Nice to be able to choose which map service to use now.
Darn no itunes sync.
6:24 am PST - Still no update.
@Shadow - Sorry, just kind of posted the same thing. Took me forever to get my message out.
Ignore, double post =P
On the Pixi side it says

This is bad. I had a hard sleeping last night and how I am going to sleep now?

Those who use AutoCorrectEdit should also remember to back up their custom ACE files via USB Drive connection before installing the update. {Jonathan}
pardon my ignorance but the words autocorrect edit and custom sounds like you can customize the autocorrect. Sounds awesome. The patch I downloaded to increase auto correct sucks. It "corrects" things away from what I intended, and doesn't fix what needs fixed. This sounds awesome! Homebrew, patch or official app? I need this!
One other reminder for Preware patch users: after installing any update, remember to update the feeds in Preware, since it autodetects the OS version you're running and (I think) presents the appropriate patch versions for reloading. {Jonathan}
I just hope the update fixes my random freezes and restarts
me too. Been getting a lot of restarts when using the browser or watching video.
I agree with you. Overall phone speed, overall speed of the entire phone. There are serious issues that need to be acknowledge, and for those of us that don't use the patches we are at a serious disadvantage.
Although I do think the update will be helpful, most of us wont see a huge difference unfortunatly. Palm needs to work on bigger issues than being able to click an address instead of type it in & small improvement of battery life in roaming areas.
What about obvious app limit, Video, Camera improvements (photoshop, autocorrect, etc..), voice dial, overall phone speed, or even improve upon exisiting software so NONE OF US HAVE TO DEAL WITH PATCHES (although I love them and couldnt live without them, it shouldnt be needed with a phone of this stature).

nice double pose chief...lol
j/j
or get a google street view someway incorporated in the maps like the droid. I just feel these small updates could be more substantial
Guess I had that coming H-Cubed!!!!
"We didn't find it under the Christmas Tree on Friday like a certain PreCentral editor and the rest of us webOS fiends were hoping for, but this is close enough to count:" Dude, Christmas is a Season, not a day, (12 days of Christmas) your good!
In fact the Christmas season lasts until the Epiphany on January 6th.
AKA: 3 Kings Day! El Dia de Reyes!
They aren't going to fix the Email functionality? It's terrible now!
What issues you having with email? Curious. Mine's working great, syncing multiple email accounts like hotmail, gmail, and corporate exchange.
I'm personally am having major issues with the email on my Pre. Gmail sometimes gets 'stuck' where the phone keeps the data connection running, and according to the battery app it has gone to 67%/hr while gmail is running. Once overnight my phone kept trying to download emails and I used over a gig of data.
Here is the thread I started regarding this issue. I've also found on other forums that this can happen.
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/219973-massive-data-usage.html
I think this is just you. Have you DR'd your Pre and checked if that solved it?
No, it's just not me. The phone gets stuck in a loop while downloading emails with attachments (mostly with retreaving the text in the main body of the email). Some postings I've read at Palm's site say it has to do with animations in the emails, while other users say that the attachments/emails get downloaded into the same partition that the apps use, and when you run low on space this can cause the phone to get stuck while trying to download the attachment.
I've DRed my phone, with no luck. There is no rhyme or reason with email attachemtns. Some come through fine, while others get stuck downloading and running data. Sometimes it could be just a standard email that gets 'stuck' (meaning no crazy charactors or attachments)
It is well known that 1.3.1 messed stuff up for other users as well regarding email use.. (at least from what I've been reading at sprint users, precentral, and palm's forums.
My phone freezes up or runs slow when I check my email. Before 1.3.1 you could delete emails through the website and they would delete off of your phone. Now you have to delete on the phone and on the web. Specifically with Hotmail.
if you delete them off the website.... then all you need to do is open up ur email and refresh it... that should "re-sync" to whatever you deleted through the website...
my email is not working neither. No push! and loading gets stuck, meaning i dont recieve ANY emails... :( i need email push, and overall, functionality
Well this is great news now if we can get the update sometime today the only thing that sucks more the waiting to fing out when were going to get it is finding out and still haveing to wait for it
How do I reverse use of the MvApp (where I moved my apps out of the var artitition) before the new update to 1.3.5? Do I need to or do In need just to ue EPR only to update.
Ground breaking update...
Sorry... I was hoping to see more progress (and switch back to me Pre).
is anyone seeing this update yet
nope.
Pretty sure Sprint jumped the gun on this. Ruby said CES, would be odd to change it now.
he said they would be showing it at CES not releaseing it then but if thats the case it would really suck and im sure the peeps that are already pissed at palm will be so even more
Ok I just tried to run emergency patch recovery & it says i have no patches!! Isnt the power percentage & email in landscape a patch?
Really? It actually told you something? When I've run it in the past it has just sat there chunking away for a while and then when I get control over the Pre again everything has been removed... Maybe try rebooting and trying again?
EPR Run - Check, Default Theme Restored - Check, Callus formed on thumb from taping refresh button - In Progress
I just wish they would fix the auto back-up.
I had that problem. The workaround is to go into backup, turn off the service. It'll ask you if it's OK to delete the palm profile and you answer yes. Don't worry, unless something blows up, you'll be fine. Now restart and go back into backups and restart the service. Backup immediately and you'll be fine.
Would be amazing if this update FIXED everything the PREVIOUS update BROKE, wouldn't it?
And then there's the subject of getting some OFFICIAL video recording done on this thing....

WHAT TIME DO THEY GONNA RELEASE IT????????????????
Wow mime down! It is not available as of yet. Sprint may have just jumped the gun on this one but they said it would be available today. As far as my calendar says its still the 28th...
Add a few more exclamation points and you just might get it sooner than everyone else...
I assume the Sprint site still reads new update today?
I just notice this on Sprint WebOS update site:
"Last updated: Dec 22, 2009"
So maybe Sprint thought that the update would be available today but they were wrong?
another qestion (maybe dumb)- why do a lot of posts end up out of order in my browser? I'll come back and there will be new posts before posts I've already read. it seems unrelated to the time stamps.
You mean like mine following right after yours? If so, because I responded to your question by hitting "reply" below your question then adding my comment in the box that opens.
If this is not your question, I have no idea.
yes, of course! thanks jdod. my 755p doesn't display the replies tabbed over so I didn't even think of that.
Nothing yet... Still waiting.
I want to see gif. Images work for my smilely program that I bought from app store, work on my phone... not jus' the one I send to(that is not a Pre)
I'm in Central Time. Still no update. Checking my phone every 30mins.

Wow. Sprint's whole support site is down, not just that page. What a way to come back from a holiday.
Any thoughts on skipping this one and just waiting for the 1.4 update in Jan? I'm not in the mood to re-do all the patches, and if the complete changelog doesn't yield any game-changers for my use, any issues that could arrise from 1.31 to 1.4 straight up? Thx!
Unless you hack the auto-updating, you can't "skip" an update.
11:05 PST - Nothing yet.
"From the Sprint site"

The website is back up and it still showing that WebOS 1.3.5 coming out today.
hmm so it is...interesting... Maybe all the repeated refreshes on the updates app is causing some issue...lol
lol yeah. Palm Update server might go down also. Everyone pressing their refresh update button on their Pre.
100!!
sorry...lol
Wonder how many people were sitting on that site refreshing like lunatics? Considering all the "where is it???" comments, and how many more folks who realized how spazzy that sounds...
Seriously. It's not going to make the case of your phone solid gold and load you up with top of the line games. It's just going to make things probably a little better here and there. You might see a little pickup in battery life...but you've probably been rolling with your phone for awhile now, and one day or week isn't going to kill you. What the update WILL do is take your phone offline for 15 minutes or more. Do you REALLY want that happening in the middle of your work day (if you are working today)? Is it really worth THAT much?
Yeah, but I heard that it is going to fix the oreo effect on my Pre!
Actually, I couldn't agree more with you.
I personally dont care either way but I work at a help desk for a local school district and the only people that are in the actual school systems are janitors so you can only imagine how exciting my day is thus far....Janitors dont use computers...lol
Refreshing on Sprint.com isnt going to do a whole lot anyways, people actually need to go to palm.com/support to see when this thing is available.
And yes some may actually believe that this is worth it to keep refreshing...To some its not just a phone it is an investment and 15 minutes may be worth it....
So if my Pre is jailbroken, do I need to un-root it before I install the update? I already removed all my patches and themes.
There is no such thing as "jailbroken" with the Pre. It is not jailed to begin with (like the iphone is). There is also no "rooting" the Pre. Gaining developer access is just a mode, and it is well documented and easy.
So to answer what might be your question: No, you do not have to exit developer mode for an update.
Re: Your statement about "jailbroken." Kudos to you! :)
I think Palm deserves a lot of credit for embracing, instead of fighting, the homebrew community!
It is possible to obtain root access to the Pre. Developer Mode is done through the phone, but root access or "jailbreaking" the Pre is done separately.
What are you talking about? After I go into developer mode, I can plug in the Pre to my Linux machine and use novacom and I am dumped at a root shell. Exactly what in that process is "jailbreaking"?
Any speculation/news about Bell Mobility's 1.3.5 update? Bell updated on the same day as Sprint with 1.3.1 and 1.3.0. Maybe it will be the same again.
even if sprint is off by a week I went ahead and did my prep work...
Theme removed, EPR is run and Repair utility has been run with 'Override Compatibility' enabled...
I love my patches but I wanted to remove them in case the update finally drops while I am at work, I know my phone wil be ready for me to install and play with it...
It definitely won't come today. Sprint jumped the gun, it's as simple as that.
@Baryn:
On what do you base making such a definitive statement?
I get so fed up and irritated with people stating opinion or speculation as absolutely fact.
If you KNOW something, and choose state it as fact in a public forum, then back it up with evidence/source(s)! Otherwise say "I bet..." or "I think..."
Ugh.
This is purely conjecture, though it is somewhat backed by facts -- none of which I am at liberty to divulge, being under NDA.
I appreciate being under NDA. I also appreciate that Sprint has jumped the gone once before about posting a release date for a webOS update.
But "conjecture based on facts?" Really? :)
I don't believe there is anything wrong with that use of words.
Yep, your NDA means you are FOS.
Well, I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't think anything is going to be released until after the holidays (New Year). It doesn't make sense to release it now when most of Palm and Sprint staff are probably on vacation/holiday leave.
LOL. Glad I was wrong.
You're probably wrong-- if they weren't planning on a Dec 28th release, why would they put that on their website?
I'm sure it'll be released today or tomorrow, based on server loads.
They made the mistake before, with the last update.
Plus the Pixi version of the page has incorrect dates saying 1.3.2 was released today when it has actually been out for a couple weeks now.
Maybe they meant tonight?
I could be wrong but didn't the last update become available at midnight pacific time? Maybe 1.3.5 will become available at midnight tonight
I thought I remembered the releases being generally around 7pm EST. No??
I'd put money down that this isn't coming today/night.
still waiting
It's out now. Downloading.
Downloading it right now...
Downloading.
willxcore, I'll take that "money" you were going to put down...I'm downloading it now...which is to say, today.
>:D
13 mb? seems too small, taking off patches and downloading in a sec :D
Downloading now. Stay tuned.
I was going to say the same thing as well. 13MB does seem like a small update. and the downloading speed is not all that well right now anyway. the servers must be getting hammered as we speak.....
I'll take that bet. I'm downloading it right now! 13 mb
lol...I pressed my refresh button plenty of times. Still nothing, but at doubting anything---even though Sprint isn't the best service provider.
yeah.. downloading is super slow (using wifi), and my pre seems so naked without all the patches.. :(
Install is really, really slow.
who actually has gotten it installed? that's what I'd like to know. it just either sits in downloading or unpacking for a long time, and does nothing. by far, the longest install out of any OS update thus far...
Finally installed. Preware is not loading...
agreed. finally got it installed as well. but preware just errored out right off the bat. can't update or manage the feeds either. ahhh shucks! lol
