Sunday Mystery: Yahoo Messenger appears on un-patched Pre 58
File this one under "strange and surreal." We've just confirmed with one of our readers that ever since webOS 1.2, he's had Yahoo Messenger up and functioning on his Pre. This lucky soul has a totally stock, non-patched Pre. He emailed us to ask why nobody was talking about this feature and we told him "Because you're the only one who has it!"
Well, not the only one. There are a couple of reports in this thread of Yahoo Messenger magically appearing in some way, shape or form. There's also this excellent patch from the webos-internals team for adding ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo to your Messaging app. We also know that Yahoo is coming to Synergy sometime this year -- it was demo'd on the Pixi.
So, Pre Nation - does anybody else have a Pre that has been mysteriously graced with Yahoo IM?

i restart my palm pre with the webOSDoctor and when i was looking at the IM account there was yahoo!!! but don't work :-( .... try and maybe you will be lucky ... i will update and see what happen ...i hope after the update the yahoo account still there and this time work!!!

No joy. I'm at 1.2.1. Removed all patches before updating (same for update to 1.2.0). Only GTalk and AIM.
And what is the deal with the red bars? That is different also.

I was wondering when someone was going to say something. I have yahoo messenger under my messaging apps, but it won't log in. It's on my coworker's also, but this is what happened. I used the oswebdoctor, not the 1.2, but the older one and it appeared. I did someone else's phone and used to the new oswebdoctor that's on palm's site and it didn't show up on his phone. This was all on the same day. I just can't get mine to log in though.
Is there a screen snap of the "Add IM Account" Screen that shows that you are able to add a yahoo IM account? It had to be added some how.
I don't have native Yahoo Messenger, but the online version of Messenger works perfectly on the Pre! The only downside, you have to keep pressing refresh to get new messages. Other than that, no complaints.

Count my bro as one of the lucky few... I suddenly get a text where he notifies me that he has YAHOO access now... he's thrilled and was shock I had not read anything about that here... o_O
I did right after using the DR and installing 121 right after last night.I saw it, I didn't think anything of it. I previously used the messaging patch and assumed it was holdover junk that was stored on my palm profile. :)
Just tried the WEBOSDR for 1.2.1 and still no yahoo messenger. I was hoping that it was going to work and it was worth a visit to the DR to try. No luck.
I also had it briefly. I updated and then two days later after the infamous "logged out and reset bug"(I'm so lucky) I went to add an AIM account and saw other options. Yahoo! Wasn't the only one that shouldn't have been there but I can't remember what else was there. Since then, thinking nothing of it, I've patched the hell out of my pre, and ran the EPR in preware and those additional options are gone. I knew I shouldve taken a screenshot!

I have Yahoo. Odd that some people are getting it and other aren't. It's too bad I never use my Yahoo messenger account.
Ha, same. I have like 3 people on my yahoo messenger, and all three of them have aim, so I talk to them through that.
I just recently got my phone replaced through Sprint and the new phone they gave me has yahoo on it but it won't let me log in so it is out there on some of the devices that Sprint has

i had it on my pre as well yahoo just yahoo so but then after a restart it was gone like the same magical way it cam it was gone the same but it patched now anyway with yahoo and stuff so i dont worry about but yes i had it on it after webos 1.2 but just for a short wile

I just got a new pre last fri. and it came with yahoo IM on it. Then I installed the latest update and it was gone :(

I've Had Yahoo messenger since the 1.2 update and so does my girlfriend. I thought it was just part of the update.

I just have Aim and Google talk, didn't get it with 1.2 or 1.21. Wish I did though because I use my yahoo acount a lot and so does many of my associates.

I have yahoo. what happened is i had to run the webdoctor on my phone and that put it on there. so they must have put it in there.

I experienced something similar with WbOSDoctor yesterday as well.
I had installed the messaging patch to allow Yahoo and ICQ to work (I only used Yahoo, however), and then later ran WebOSDoctor. After my device was restored and my data retrieved from the Palm backup, I found that my device did show Yahoo in my accounts list, however it didn't work until I installed the messaging patch again.
I suspect that Palm backup does in fact back up Yahoo information, likely is preparation (or testing) for the Pixi, and that's the reason why it appeared for me at least, after a fresh restore.
After returning my original Pre because of Oreo effect, my second one (also with Oreo ggrr) mysteriously has Yahoo Messenger, which I promptly activated. This was my biggest software complaint, so far, the lack of this messenger. Now, I can't seem to sign in on Yahoo to actually use it! Is this some kind of cruel joke??

I found a possible fix for user of the pre. Here was my problem. My yahoo Messenger was not working.
As with many other pre users my messenger wouldn't show up. So after doing a complete
erase 3 times my problem still was at hand.
So what worked for me was a partial erase. So my suggestion is do a partial erase When the pre starts back up.
Choose your profile and enter your password.Then when you get to the sync option, choose
yahoo and skip remaining. Install google and face book or any other after yahoo syncs. This worked for me.
Hopefully, this will work for other user of the pre. Thanks and good Luck!
I saw this supposed rumor and tried to add my yahoo account to the pre's messenger app, it worked. But it had initial problems trying to log in. I simply closed the app and restarted it. The Pre syncked my yahoo account while trying to restart the app - took about 3 mins - but it worked. I have Yahoo messenger working just like Google messenger on my Pre. Rumor confirmed - it works.

I am trying to load this on my Palm version 1.4.1.1 and i can not get it to work. I want Yahoo messenger on the IM looking at the dates of these articles it seems like it should already be out and on the phone as a regular option.
I do not recall the specific error that i receive everytimnmg i try to load the appropriate files in the appropriate order as requested on the palm pre+ it errors out on me.
