THQ Wireless bringing games to webOS, Obi-Wan senses a great disturbance in the Force 38

In a tweet loaded with implications of epic proportions, iPhone developer THQ Wireless has let it be known that they’re in the process of porting some of their games to webOS with the magic of the PDK. While there are undoubtedly many developers doing the same, it’s what’s inside THQ’s portfolio that has us excited: Star Wars. Specifically, THQ is the group that brought Star Wars: Trench Run (video after the break) and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed to iOS. Oh, and Battle for Hoth, Cantina, several graphic novels, sound boards, and the official lightsaber app.
THQ also has developed a number of other games for iOS, including a flying house from Disney’s Up, an Indiana Jones soundboard, and a handful of custom games like Chop Sushi! and De Blob. Will we be excited to see THQ’s apps when they arrive in the App Catalog? Did William Shatner wear a bad toupee? Sorry, wrong franchise...

omg huge starwars fan.. Which means they can't come to WebOS I will get absolutely NO work done... Lol... Just kidding that's going to be awesome... Oh wait I'm in the U.S. And still don't have the new WebOS update... CRAP! I'm missing new games!!!!!!! Arrrggggg come on Verizon and AT&T approve the update already! Us Sprint users are getting tired of Verizon dragging their feet when approving updates.....(INSERT CONSPIRICY THEORY HERE).. Verizon is now a Android dominated carrier.. Drag heals so the only multitasking competitor that keeps winning voting polls like LapTop Magazines polls has to suffer so they can make it easier to sell their new Droid X... Just saying

While it would still be nice to get some more useful productivity apps, it's good to see a big developer/publisher like THQ jumping on the WebOS wagon.
It's taking much longer, but let's hope this starts the beginning of a larger migration of OFFICIAL (useful) apps by well-known, better funded app developers.
Now that that's out of the way.... HOT DAMN!! STAR WARS GAMES ON MY PHONE... HELL YEAH!!!

Excellent news. I really wanted an iPhone after seeing Battle for Hoth in action a few weeks ago.
Hopefully the 1.4.5 update comes out before these games do. The Emperor is most displeased with their apparent lack of progress.
i gotta say, i'm getting so tired of EVERYONE leaving us up in the air like this...i want something in stone!!! if they port these games over, that's great, but i'm sick of reading one article on this crap then NOTHING! i love WebOS, and it's great that there are people/companies/developers out there that think it's worth a mention, but i'm sick and tired of them turning out to be no better than Adobe! Android has reached 100,000 apps already!!!!! WTF HPalm?!!! you need to be pushing out apps as fast as you can!!! do you not understand that that is all that the average person cares about?!
i do hope to see some sick games/apps like the ones this company makes, but i get the feeling like WebOS is like the geek in school who gets pumped just because someone higher on the totem pole acknowledges that they have some strengths.

Until a couple months ago, Palm was a little Tadpole in a large pond. Now that HP owns them, and has made their intentions clear, developers are taking notice and jumping in. Combine HP's presence with the PDK updates and you can see why devs are scrambling to get aboard. Proper app development takes time though, even with porting, and devs have to weigh the porting of one game against the development or updates of others for other platforms.. Platforms which have more apps because they have more users because they were backed by massive corporations in the first place, not little boutique level outfits trying to scratch out a place. Palm was a company that could be pushed around, intimidated or flat ignored. Google and Apple are not and HP certainly is not.

never really cared about the game part of this phone but I'm hyped about this ... 1.4.5 not anything to me.. every time there's an update there's bugs then 2 weeks later there's an .1 upgrade fix ... Europe got it and we will get it after everything is perfect!!!!!! Thx HP for buyN palm!!!!

btw...these apps will be listed under "counter-productivity" in preware :)
I'm all for productivity, but it's up to developers to decide that its worth it for them to make those apps. *shrug*

I want Star Wars Battlefront but I think Sony might own the rights to that... And it isn't made by THQ... And it's only on mobile in the PSP... I think I've shown myself how impossible it is. Hey Palm, can we get a way to use the PDK for PSP games? How about PS1? I'm all for Syphon Filter. Who's with me?
I don't know how many of you have ever played the game, but Trench Run is almost a direct port of Rebel Assault, a classic Star Wars game for the PC, in fact one of the first. Also a long time favorite of mine.
I'd like to see them port the entire game over, but if I'm reading the lines right, it seems they have only ported over select episodes from the game. :(

I'll start by saying that I'm all over this like a hobo on a ham sammich! Did anybody else see the possibility of 'de Blob' coming to webOS? Wow!
Generally, I am a workaholic, but this could be the first game I buy for my Pre! (if we ever get updated to 1.4.5 before the new phones come out this fall in the US)
