Toggle Auto Dim [webOS 3.x] 10

by Adam Marks Sun, 11 Sep 2011 8:06 pm EDT

This tip is only for devices running webOS 3.0 and higher

You may notice that these screen on your TouchPad constantly gets dimmer or brighter while you are using it. This is a result on the Auto Dim being set to on which is supposed to respond to changing light conditions. In this author's experience, this is more annoying that helpful and activates way too often. If you would like to turn off Auto Dim, you just need to open the Screen & Lock app and toggle the Auto Dim ON/OFF switch at the top of the screen

Question: I noticed that even with auto-dim set to off, the TP still dims after a minute or two. Is this related to the auto-dim setting or is a different funtionality altogether? Thanks.

I believe that means the screen is getting ready to time. You can adjust the settings on how long the screen remains on before timing out. It sounds like your current setting is on 1 or 2 minutes judging by the way you are describing it.

*screen is getting ready to time out that is

Thanks skatopias.

I think we need a patch to modify the sensitivity & time delay settings for the auto dim...

Auto-dim is pretty erratic indoors.

Funny since I don't think the TP has a light sensor. Not sure how this even works.

I did notice it but I thought it was my device. I had little hope for resolving it and I resigned to just ignore it. Thanks for this simple fix. Keep the tips coming!

I was in a pretty bright room and it dimmed and then got really bright! I think I got a face burn like Roy in Close Encounters! lol
