"TouchPad for Dummies" Book already in the works 15

by Tim Stiffler-Dean Fri, 24 Jun 2011 1:27 am EDT

Without even having a device available to purchase in the stores yet, the "For Dummies" line of books has already picked up another title to teach new TouchPad owners how to use their new webOS tablet. On both the Walmart and Barnes & Noble websites, the $16, 360 page book by Andrew Rathbone is already available for pre-order, though it won't be shipped to your house until November 1st, at the earliest.

The last time we saw a "For Dummies" book published for a webOS device was way back in 2009 when the original Sprint Pre was released (we also reviewed that book, here). To see a new book already in the works is a good sign that people are interested in seeing what webOS has to offer in the tablet space. Even though we won't be seeing the book on the shelves for another 4 months, we'll be happy to get our hands on it for a review. And if they forget to mention Homebrew again, we'll have to have a word with the author.

No reason not to contact the publisher/author now about including home brew.

Truer words were never spoken.

Hopefully RW & Co are putting together homebrew documentation for a true-post-pc TouchPad allowing us to install Internalz and Preware without having to connect to a PC.

So this will be the eventual user's manual in the box?

Well, in retrospect, an iPad for dummies book would have made a FORTUNE for somebody. Sorry, couldn't resist!

At least they didn't say they'll release in the fall/winter or some other vague timeline, like HP does when they announce products five months in advance.

Somehow, this seems...appropriate.

LOL

I didn't know webOS needed instructions. This is as simple as it comes. Now if they were doing instructions for how to put the phone/tablet in developer mode and all the hacking tricks that would be a different story.

Still I have the strong feeling that reading all this stuff still would take you more time to accomplish than simply doing it yourself...

But ok, people are different and I have a CIO that keeps ALL documentation of his electronic devices and even READS them!^^

There's a reason why this series is called "For Dummies".

PC should get the author on the PalmCast

This book won't do that well, because if you are using webOS, you aint no dummy!!!!!

Then again, it's a good tool to get people to switch from other platforms.

well at least the book seems like it's in the right price range. Now if they will only drop the price of the 16GB wifi only tablet by $100-$150, I will go and buy two touchpads.
