HTC HD2 Touchstone

It’s not the most elegant of mods ever, but you can chalk that up to the electromagnetic-blocking nature of the metal battery cover used on the HTC HD2. That said, this mod does show how to get a Touchstone charger working with pretty much any device (not just the HTC Evo 4G) so long as you’re willing to sacrifice the aesthetic attributes of its USB charge port.

Simply put, the mod works like this: strip a Touchstone coil and board out of a Pre or Pixi Touchstone back, wire it up to a compatible charging plug, and either secure it to the phone in some manner. The metallic nature of the HD2 does require that the back be left out of the equation so that charging can take place, but for the vast majority of other phones it should be little issue to jury-rig this setup so that the Touchstone coil is inside the casing. Looks..umm...good..?

I love rough-shod do-it-yourself projects. That's the only way I can do anything. This is win in my book.

long live macgyver!

I'm looking for the toaster ASAP!!!

Maybe I can sell the extra Pixi cover I have now :P

Got it with the Verizon 9.95 deal for a touchstone and Pixi back.

touchstone charging toasters!! I'm all for it... Then onto other portable devices like my friends "personal massager".. Lmao..

I did this in April on my wifes LG phone:

Works like a charm. I am sure it can be build into the HD2 on top of the main board.

I actually like the shiny cover, so I transplanted the touchstone coil from the touchstone back into the original shiny one.

The only problem is that it doesn't hold onto the touchstone very well, but since it just sits on the desk and not in a car or other moving object, it works great.

or get your extended battery for your pre touchstone compatible.

Did someone say, ghetto?

Dude just buy a Palm Pre !!! lol
You know I hope whoever thought of the TS principle should have got a nice package of Palm shares and payrise !!! Well deserved...

I totally agree... Buy a Pre! On the other hand, if you have a leftover TS phone-back, you should definitely sell it to some poor fool that lusts after a TS Pre but locked in with some other phone! My Pre rocks!

Dude, you don't buy a phone just based on an accessory, no matter how great it is.

Of course not...however the only thing I haven't seen being charged with a TS yet is a toaster !!!! (or sth else extreme along those lines)

OMG!."...require the back be left out of the equation..." to charge the phone: you have to remove the back? ROFL!!!

OMG, can you read? No, the back can be left on, what it is saying is that you can not put the coils on the inside of the cover, they must be external to the back (if you watch the video you will see that he puts tape over the coil and then covers it with his case.

I'm glad you can get touchstone backs separately. It would be a travesty if he had to cannibalize an entire Pre/Pixi for this ghettotasticness. Lol.

I like this guy and I would like to encourage him to find out how to solder the charging wires inside the device.

The usb port with wires hanging out is a little ghetto.

The whole point of the exercise was to mod the phone WITHOUT doing anything that would void the warranty.

Sorry iPhones, since you don't have removable cover/battery, you can't join the party.

Now i want an htc hd2 running web os!

Koodos to the guy...

Seriously thoe, just buy a palm pre if your going through that much effort. However, yes he did it becuase wanted to see if it was possible. Everyone's yern for knowlegde. Good going thoe.

I like how he said "whatever the hell this is" about the pixi.

I've been meaning to do this to my iPod Touch but I can't get around one big problem- the back cover is completely metal. If had an iPhone 3G to play with I would love to put the touchstone coils in it, as it has the plastic back (which for the record looks ugly as hell in my view) but I don't have an iPhone to tear apart. Trying to think of what else I could put a touchstone coil. Does the Nexus One have enough space in the back of it or is every bit of room taken up by the internals? I love the charging me Pre with my Touchstone too much to confine it to one device :D

It is good thanks for this one
