Twee hits version 2, brings the pretty 25

by Dieter Bohn Wed, 23 Jun 2010 10:39 am EDT

Twee from Delicious Morsel has just been updated to version 2.0 and it's pretty darn pretty. It's a $2.99 app (but only $1.50 what with the half-off sale going on now) and looks to be my new favorite Twitter client. Button layout on the bottom is clean and quick, you can tap the top bar to jump to the top, it appears to hold your place in your Twitter stream on refresh, multiple accounts, photo and video uploading, a menu shortcut to check Twitter's status, Geotagging, highly customizable notifications, support for loading pictures in-app, ...and seriously, it's really, really, ridiculously good-looking.

Got all that? How about this: if you haven't tried it in awhile, it's a free upgrade and worth the download.

Twee is one of the apps I really miss now that I'm on my EVO. I'm keeping my Pre alive on wifi though so I'll download the update and check it out :)

I've been using TweeFree and have liked it, I'm thinking about upgrading and buying this full version. Anyone out there have a better recommendation for a webOS twitter client besides this one?

i like tweefree too. one of the better apps on webos. And i barely use twitter so it's not worth buying the full version. But it's a good app.

Awesome update!!! Very nice and clean UI.
Could be my twitter client no. 1 on my palm pre in the near future.
Interesting to see, what Bad Kitty 1.2 will bring.

Reviews indicate that 2.0 is supper laggy, seems like it was rushed to take advantage of the sale. I'll stick to TweeFree or maybe invest in Tweed.

When I first updated to 2.0, it was a little laggy, but since then, the lag has pretty much faded away. There may be a slight stutter if you scroll all the way to the bottom really fast. Bringing up my saved search terms, trends, and lists takes about two seconds when you first load the app, but after that, no lag switching between views. The only thing faster for me is Bad Kitty.

Full disclosure though, I am using the F102 kernel which overclocks to 800mhz and helps on memory usage, so my perception's a bit different. :)

Really? I think that 2.0 is tons faster than 1.6 was. In fact Twee is now competing with Bad Kitty as the fastest twitter client available (IMHO).

looks nice but I will stick with tweetme. I like twitter more because of tweetme..

So...this is better than Tweed? Faster?

I've been a big Twee fan since the free version in Homebrew and while I love the new version and all of the new features; I miss the ability to change the template to the black background with white writing. Oh well, great new version though!

I completely agree. This was one of the bug reasons I chose Twee over Tweed. It also seems to have lost a few features that set it apart. The "near" feature. I understand it did not always work. I do like the idea of twee using the GPS to show the proximity of users ala FourSquare and Gowalla. If twee grabbed onto this it would definately set it apart.

I've been an avid Twee user since it first came out (my first paid app, actually), and I love the new version. No problems with lag (other than the recent Twitter performance issues). I did notice that Nearby Tweets is gone (once you do a search, you can restrict the results by location, but that's not the same thing). Also users' tweets are buried one level deeper. Otherwise, very much the same, yet looks so much nicer (I used the light blue whale theme in the older version anyway).

Same, the dark whale theme was a mess, tbh. The only problem with the light chirp theme was the pink had a hard time standing out, but that problem is gone now. User tweets are buried a level deeper and that's one thing that annoyed me about Bad Kitty.

He did finally move the saved searches option out of the left hand menu and I am so grateful. Sounds like he's got an update in the works on his twitter, so I think I'll feed him a few suggestions over there.

The update is fantastic! I love the ability to view picture in-app. Auto-login was sorely needed, so I'm glad to see that made it in.

One Thing I need twee to do is give me the option to tweet longer. That is the only thing that i am missing right now. That Is Why i am still stuck using ubertwitter on the blackberry.

Ive used tweed free and twee free and love TWEE FREE - there really werent any features I "needed" in the paid twee, but for 1.50 I thought what the heck and made the purchase ..

I love it so far - well worth the upgrade to the paid app - one thing, that I again didnt NEED but its kinda nice, is the ability to view my lists.

I like the layout and user friendliness of twee better than tweed

Honestly this is a downgrade as far as I'm concerned. Yes, it's prettier, but that's about all it has going for it. It's a ton less efficient, and loses almost all customization.

No dark theme anymore, nearby tweets is buried (you need to already be searching for something and it doesn't let you choose the radius of the search), stock tweets gone, no more landscape scrolling via the gesture bar and a few other things I can't remember off the top of my head.

And then, to view someone else's timeline, you used to be able to tap on their name or "Load User," but now you need to tap on their name, and then tap on the tweets button, or search user, tap on their name, and tap on the tweets button. There's a bunch of instances like this where there's just more inefficiency in the newest version. A prettier interface isn't enough to make up for it, or else I'd be using TweetMe.

I think the dev did a lot of behind the scenes work as well since he had to rewrite the app to use the Twitter preferred Oauth service and he will be bringing the old options back on the table, you can always ask and place it higher on his agenda. But it is good to put this info out there so people can decide to hold off on the upgrade if they want.

Is that why I had to readd my Twitter account? The change from the bottom sliding navigation to the more arrow is interesting. I don't like that I can't turn off auto-refresh. I'd prefer to refresh manually.

Agreed on all points.

Disappointed by this update.

Not a fan of the upgrade; more of a downgrade for me. Everything I liked about Twee is gone or buried. If I can't go back to the previous version I'll most likely useTweed.

I went ahead and bought this, and I think it's pretty good. I wasn't a fan of the original Twee. The sliding menu was nice, but not really for me.

This is a nice clean up and UI. I'm not a huge fan of the auto update either, but I'll need to spend more time with it.

I think these Twitter App developers are really showing what you can do with an application on webOS. Very excellent work.

I still think TweetMe is my favorite (and the best twitter client) on webOS, followed by Tweed with Twee potentially edging out Bad Kitty just by a whisker.

Sadly, another Twitter client that does not allow me to configure an alert PER ACCOUNT so I can tell by sound (or vibrate) which Twitter account just updated. *sigh*

Nearby tweets. Please.
