UK SIM-Free Palm Pre 2 in stock a little early 38

by Dieter Bohn Sat, 13 Nov 2010 1:18 pm EST

Although we're not officially expecting the Palm Pre 2 in the UK until Monday, it looks like ye olde eurostore has it available right now to ship in "1-2 business days." After a bunch of tips overnight that it was there but unavailable, we checked this morning and badda-boom, it's available and in-stock for the price of £399.00.

We suppose that the "1-2 business days" bit means that technically we're looking at a Nov 15th availability anyway. Still, if you're hot to be first in line and undeterred by the lack of UK carrier support for the little webOS wonder, go on and put your order in.

I want to buy it, i really do, but i just can't justify it.

Totally Agree! I got an Original Pre (not Plus) this January. I'd like to wait for 2.0 on it before I decide. If 2.0 is speedy and generally awesome then I'll upgrade in the next volley of devices that come out (probably next year), else the Dell Venue Pro (WP7) when it become available in the UK next January.

I agree with you. Not at that price !!! Drop it to

if it was on sprint that would be great

You seriously would pay $550 USD for the Pre 2?

I'm happy it is not on Sprint. Now, I am not tempted to get one. I'd feel like a b*tch paying for an upgrade to get so little....although gorilla glass was a nice touch.

Sprint is not getting a phone, so I'd be happy to see this available. Better cpu, more memory, more storage, better camera, gorilla glass and stronger slider with updated bevel top, this would do.

For the screen envy crowd, this will never do though, time for them to start looking at droids.

+1

and people say this is not a decent upgrade for Pre- users?

Pre+ users get an okay upgrade to
better camera, gorilla glass and stronger slider with updated bevel top

dont forget native 1ghz

ordered mine earlier today. First? ;-)

@schraal did you get an email conf yet, I ordered about 8 this morning and still nothing

I ordered around 17:00 CET, no confirmation yet

same here, ordered one last night, no word at all as yet. I assume confirmation will come upon shipping, but its still pretty crap service. If I part with

I am glad people are ordering, please let us know how it is :)

They got the price so wrong here.

so you wanted it to be what the first pre should have been? So yu wanted it to be a years ahead of it's time? If the origial pre would have had what this one does the phone that would have came out closest to it would have been what,...the evo I think or one of the iPhones. Even the droid has a 800 MHz processor I believe. Yeah it's a bit lae but it is still an elite phone hardware wise and beyond elite, 1st class, in OS. I think the pre 2 is about right, maybe a bit pricey but not by much since any phone that is on par or maybe a bit ahead came out almost 6 months ago. I mean come on and look at the demos for the pre2 and it smokes, so I don't believe any phone is a lot faster than it is.

Lack of autofocus. Check.
Small screen. Check.
Same sad keyboard. Check.

Aside from the Gorilla Glass and processor, this phone is like having a party, but the man of honor shows up when everybody is leaving.

developer and those with disposable income. Its a webos 2.0 device tester I think. That's who their market is. Plus, people really need to realize that not all people want big ass screens and all touch. This device wil fit a nice niche in the market. I would love to know what kind of improvement there is with 2.0. Pre 2 adopters keep us updated, I'm jealous.

Ordered one, also no confirmation by email.

you dont market a phone to developers, disposable income yes..

saying this phone was primarly targeted for developers is a poor/lame excuse from people on precentral trying to defend the pre 2.

get real

If this phone had debuted in the U.S. around early August (the time I bought a brand new pre plus off e-bay) I would have bought it. That being said, I'm pretty much stuck until late next year. It will still be fun watching other people experience the brand new goodies HP has in store until then.

I'm sold on webos and may original pre is one year old and starting to show signs of wear and tear.
Getting a pre2 without being tied into another 18 month contract is perfect for me - i won't have to wait when the next device - which i expect to be more of a jump in spec.- launches next year,
I can understand why from a marketing point of view people would think it would be better for the phone to be launched and pushed by carriers, but for an individual can't see why it would be a disadvantage, if not an advantage (no tie in, transparent pricing, use it on the carrier with the best tarif for you).

Anyone know if the UK Pre2 exactly like the US or Canadian Pre2? I mean, is the keyboard QWERTY, and the GSM frequencies the same?

Anyone know how the App Store works when the phone is not sold with a carrier. In the store you can select delivery addresses throughout Europe and I would be very angry if I order a phone and when I activate it the app store only gives me a small set of apps.

I agree. I live in France, have a swiss mobile subscription (because I spend days in Geneva) and I have a SIM-free Pre from Germany. Net result is I have no idea what country my Palm Pre thinks I am in, but I know I can't buy any Apps which is incredibly annoying.

I cannot possibly buy a Pre2 unless this gets sorted. Why can't they just link the apps store to the country of your credit card?

I was told that order acknowledgements will be emailed first thing on Monday morning ...something about the fact that they had to wait until the release date of 15th to formally acknowledge orders.

What's up with this site?
No email whatsoever upon ordering!

if I get a pre 2 will it work on sprint?

Enough with the "coming months" bullshit release the pre 2 now in the states. Even though I'm not getting one I want the update. $550 is too much for a small upgrade to a similar phone.

while i love webOS and my pre, i do want a pre that is tougher than the original one, but i am concerned that if i shell out

Anyone gotten any word on their orders yet? I haven't heard a peep and I ordered Friday night. Kind of sums things up a little bit, as much as I love Palm.

Strike that just got my confirmation.

Got a confirmation as well. So they're shipping to the Netherlands. :)

Has anyone thought that with this shift to buying through HP, WebOS 2.0 might update OTA without a carrier, or perhaps work without a contract (e.g. Like a pda)??

Just got a "Shipping Notification from Palm Store".
