Verizon and Canada to get Pre 2 in "coming months" 42

by Derek Kessler Tue, 19 Oct 2010 9:50 am EDT

Verizon Palm Pre 2 Good news, America, the Palm Pre 2 is indeed coming to our shores, and as we expected, it’s coming to Verizon. Oh, and some as-of-yet-unidentified Canadian carrier (or carriers). What’s not so good is the release timetable, which is a frustratingly vague “coming months.” Also not mentioned: pricing

We know many of you are asking “What about Sprint?” We see and share the sadness in your eyes when we say that Sprint has not even been mentioned in discussions about the Pre 2. Sorry. If it’s any consolation, if you switch to Verizon you can get in on their exclusive Skype calling deal with the Pre 2.

idk who to blame. Sprint or HPalm..

idk either but to be honest I really don't care. I wouldn't have gotten the Pre 2 anyway if it were on Sprint. I want a slab phone from Palm/HP. Make the screen at least 3.7 inches and you have got yourself the ultimate smartphone. Everybody say it with me, bigger screen, bigger screen, bigger screen....

HA HA PALMS FACEBOOK IS LIGHTING UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE FROM SPRINT USERS! HP has a automated bot answering crap blaming Sprint. If anyone has Palm on their facebook and have time to check it out it's interesting. They are all about getting pats on their back for WebOS 2.0 and the Pre2.. Instead Sprint users are lining up kicking them in their shins.

I can only hope the reason why they don't have them listed as getting the Pre2 is because they (sprint) are working on getting whatever the successor to that is/will be. Maybe now that HP is running the show they are making demands that Palm couldn't and Sprint doesn't want to play ball. Maybe sprint is pissed about a tanker full of gimped Pixi's and told them to go screw. I can only hope they get something soon. I've been with Sprint for 7 years or so. I really don't want to ditch them, but I will if I have to.

Well #$%!@ !!

C'mon HP! Make it really WORLDWIDE! :)

If nothing is announced for Sprint at CES in January, sadly and reluctantly I see an EVO or Epic in my future. I hope it doesn't come to this. Please bring the next generation of devices to Sprint.

If you wait until January, do you really think the EVO and the Epic will still be the lead Android phones on Sprint? If not, won't it hurt to go to a phone that'll be like 3-5 months old by then? (I can't remember their release months.)

Also, if webosworld is to be believed, Sprint's release should be "within weeks" of Verizon's...so a couple of months at most, I'd guess.

dear sprint crybabies, please take it as it is: palm owes you nothing.

hopw worldwide distribution is coming soon, the french azerty is a no-go ;)

Look I'm not mad that Sprint isn't getting the device first, I can accept that, but we just want something on Sprint and a release date for whatever is coming to Sprint. If they aren't going to release anything on Sprint then let us know so we can plan accordingly.

I can understand SFR having first crack, but with how Verizon handled the Pre Plus, it makes little sense to me for them to get first dibs in the U.S. Not to mention they are all in with Android. I would rather see AT&T get it first than Big Red.

Bitch please!

Who said Palm owes us anything? Nobody. We just feel "burned" since we were the first adopters of webOS and especially the ones that stuck around for some hope of getting a better Palm phone on Sprint. No shit Palm doesn't owe us anything but on the same token we don't owe Palm anything either.... Oh, what's this? A shiny new Epic 4G. Maybe next year Palm. Maybe next year.

if Sprint doesn't get this phone, and nothing is announced at CES 2011, this will be a HUGGGEEEEEE kick in the nuts to all of the people who bought into WebOS early and have helped to make it so great. I've had my original pre since June 7th, and want to get in on the newness. In addition, no one has said anything about a release of WebOS 2.0 to all of us non-new phoners. Will our original Pre get an update to webOS 2.0 to wallow in our slow 500 MHz processor (yeah, i govnah, but still...)? My girlfriend has an Epic on Sprint, with its 1 ghz processor, MASSIVE screen, and playful Android 2.1, but it lacks the awesomeness of WebOS. I hope HP/Palm reads this when I say that if you do not reward your most loyal customers - Sprint enthusiasts who bought in on Day 1 - with this phone or something better VERY soon, you are going to lose a TON of customers, and rightly so.

+200 for all the Sprintees holding onto their upgrades for the next device (like me).

although I'm hurting cause of the slap in the face :.o( ...I do believe we (sprint users) will get Webos 2.0.
they better hurry though...I want flash so bad....

I completely agree with what everyone is saying! I am actually a sprint employee and it sucks to hear that Verizon will get the first crack at it, especially after the way they treated Palm when they got it before... I remember how big of a deal the Pre was with us, it was our flagship device at least for a couple of months. So unless I get a job at Verizon.... I'm gonna have to stay with my original... :(

un believeable, unless sprint is getting a 4g webOS phone early next year; likin the evo but really would like a way back to webOS that doesnt = pre or pixi

Pre sales will be canibalized by iPhone on Verizon. At least the Evo and Epic are old news now. Comon HP

Exactly!

I'm on Sprint and been with them since 1999.. I'm not going to big Red... Not even for a GLASS screen Pre2.. From what I'm seeing on the Pre2 it's everything I wish my Pre minus was.

I look at it this way. There's gotta be a good reason for no Pre2 on Sprint. Why would they release a bumped up version of the 3G Pre when they could get a 4G HP/Palm phone. Yes I have phone envy something sick when I go pay my cell bill in the store and mess with the EVO and Epic.. However I look at the big picture. Is it worth having Google playing big brother in my life and monitor EVERYTHING I do? Is it worth going to a platform that claims to be open but yet is against homebrew and patches?

I may not do anything that worries me about being monitored but it's just the thought of being watched makes me uncomfortable. And all operating systems are not perfect. So yes there will be a feature that the OS (need it be RIM, iOS, Android, Symbian, windohs mobile7 and WebOS) doesn't do.. Well with iOS their motto may be there's and app for that.. At WebOS there's a patch for that.. I like that freedom to make a custom WebOS that caters to what I do with my device. What I may need my device to do others might not and vice versa..

am I a little bummed Big Red gets a new Palm device before us users that make up Palms backbone at Sprint?...yes... Do I hope there is a reason such as 4G? Yes.... I live in the Chicago area so I have access to 4G so to me it's worth the wait.. Just wish my palm had a glass screen.. Not enough to get me to switch to the money sucker a.k.a. Verizon though.

I wouldn't usually use this language, but: Release a new device on Sprint or GTFO!

There... That's off my chest...

Absolute bullshit is all I have to say...

My prediction: I see HP/Palm doing like what Samsung did with GalaxyS and releasing several new phones over the first half of 2011. There WILL be a Sprint superphone eventually. I'm pretty confident that Palm (and HP) have learned from giving Sprint exclusivity for so long with the first Pre. HP won't hold out on us original Sprint Pre owners!!!

Hmmm I am a Palm (HP) WebOS fan, but I wont leave Sprint just to get the new Palm/HP Phone. If for some stupid reason, HP does not release a new phone on Sprint, I (as well as I figure most others) will just have to find an alternative smartphone when it's time to upgrade. There are WAYYYY too many smartphones coming out these days to bother with paying cancellation fees, start-up fees, etc. to switch companies. Exclusivity is not smart HP.

Just have to wait to see if the internals of the Pre2 are similar to the Plus, and if so, the Sprint Pre Plus conversion should, hopefully, work on the 2 as well.

My thoughts exactly.

As I will be moving to Canada in the "coming months", this works perfectly for me. :)

But get ready for exorbitant rates.

Hey!! Where is the GSM version to Worldwide??? >:-(

Best Regards...

I'm not leaving Sprint regardless. Yea, I'm upset but what can I do.

I'm not jumping ship to Android, or Iphone, or Blackberry.

I'll just wait.. What Sprint or any other company need to hear... is how much their customers want and need the Pre2.

Join me in sending emails to your subscriber on this matter. Let your voice be heard... rather than complaining.

(They need to know...) I've already sent two emails to Sprint. Now do your part.

Precentral Member,
RUSH.

I agree with all other sprint users here.

Perhaps the rumored Verizon iPhone is the reason HP/Palm is releasing it on Big Red first.

If that's the case, even though I'm a Sprint customer, I'm all for it. Anything to reduce Apple sales and help iPhone-envious customers see the light.

Nothing has changed for me (Sprint User). i think the Pre 2 is a joke, honestly. Nothing more than a refreshed Pre Plus. I will wait til CES, but if nothing announced by then I am hitting up my Upgrade for an Epic. Web OS is an elegant and robust OS but the OS must follow the hardware. No elegant hardware means I am not interested.

Well that might explain why the Pre all of a sudden reappeared at the Eaton store...

Bell's probably getting it then. And please don't f up and launch the CDMA version.

come on HPalm. Seriously. Where's the Sprint love? BTW, Derek, that wasn't any consolation at all.

I think its just unbelievable they released with sprint, made us guinea pigs for a phone that has A LOT of issues - and then give the new improved models to another carrier -

I have a serious love hate relationship with my PRE, and sprint - this really makes me want to leave (and no, if I switch I would not get the PRE 2!)

no more palm/hp love from me ... android or Blackberry will be my new best friend

If Verizon was smart, they would offer some hella good deal to Sprint Pre users, to switch to their PRE2 - would be interesting to see if many would switch!

Goodbye Sprint. The only reason I came to Sprint was to get the phone I wanted (the Treo 300 almost 10 years ago.) The reason I've stayed is because Sprint has had the phones I wanted. Now Verizon is going to have the phone I want, so hello Big Red.

I think this is HPalms way to get some sales out before the iPhone is released next year most likely on Verizon. That way they wont have to go up against Verizon's Iphone at the same time and have a few months to themselves in sales. Sprint will get something most likely and it probably will be an upgrade from the Pre2 with 4G.

This sux. All hyped up for an October release for just an announcement that it will be released next year. Such a let down. Bubble - burst

nice looking phone.....OHHHHH YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!

sprint don't fail me now!!!!
