Verizon drops the moms, advertises webOS as the awesomeness that it is 148
[ youtube link - embedding disabled for whatever reason ]
Forget moms, let’s talk software! With Valentine’s Day in the past, Verizon has now turned their attention and considerable marketing muscle to advertising the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus they way they’re meant to be advertised: as feature-packed smartphones. In 30 seconds time Big Red manages to cover more than Palm managed in their entire series of launch commercials.
Oh, and they’re showing of Buy One, Get One Free too. If there was any need of clarification, this ad should clear things up for both staff and customers: the Pixi Plus is available as a BOGO offer when you buy a Pre Plus or a Pixi Plus, not just the latter. Verizon’s BOGO promotions have proven a boon for both the BlackBerry Curve and the HTC Droid Eris, hopefully we’ll be able to say the same for the Pixi Plus.
Thanks to Matt and Adam for the tips!

Great ad!
Oh my god, finally, what a relief!
It's not very memorable, but at least it doesn't leave you completely confused.
This is the best ad to date, followed by the first Pixi ad. They need to combine the two, to create a highly creative AND informative piece.
Note taken. Thanks for your input, kiddo.

That is probably the best Palm commercial up to now. Direct and to the point. I like it!
That's so much better.

I can't even imagine how sad and pathetic your sorry excuse for a life must be...
DON'T feed the troll =)
when are they going to showcase the cards!!!!
Hey, they at least snuck the notifications in. From any other device, the dashboard is the first big "wow" Godsend.
Cards are also awesome, but having already taken the ride, I don't think looking back I fully appreciated what the cards do for the system until after getting used to them. Like Dieter is always going on about the feel of the language of the UI. Hard to describe without having used it, but totally awesome.
I love how webOS comes off as completely lag free. :)
Either,
a. I wish it was a Youtube video so I can view it on my Pre
or
b. I wish we had flash on our phones
It's great that they're marketing to a lot more than the moms. Hopefully I see more Pre's and Pixi's (Plus) out!
Unless im mistaken as to what you mean, the video is from youtube =)
Weird. It won't let me play it on my phone..
All I get is a box and then in the gray box is a play icon with a circle around it and a line going through it (similar to a no smoking symbol).
Is something wrong with my phone..?
It takes a bit longer for youtube to make it mobile compatible after the initial upload. It should work in a day or two.
Thanks for the info.
are you just learning that WebOS 1.4 due out any day now, will bring Flash 10.1??
wow verizon did a good job, 10 times better than the mom ads....
Finally! Sprint very did well with their Pre launch commercials too. Glad Verizon dropped the cutesy stuff and is now beginning to showcase our dope device! Palm, take heed! Show off the best smartphone on the market the way it should have been from get-go! The Pre was the birth of "does"-phones (i.e. Motorola Droid), unlike iPhone which started as a multimedia phone, and is better than the Droid! And with 1.4 upon us, consumers need to know why!
Either,
a. I wish it was a Youtube video so I can view it on my Pre
or
b. I wish we had flash on our phones

work computer blocks youtube and for some reason it wont play in my Pre
thats more like it.
It's about time, a real WebOs commercial. YAY!
That is all kinds of awesome for a commercial. FINALLY! A commercial that actually shows how cool the phone works. They made the software and the hardware look great along witha nce BoGo offer. This is the commercial we've been waiting for for 8 months.
Thanks Verizon.
Hello, Sprint and Palm are you watching???
And i hope AT&T is taking notes too.
final-freekin-ly
YES!
I thought the initial Pixi commercial was the first good Palm commercial. This marks another, finally.
However, what music app is that?
The music app is Slacker
Love it.... they kinda screwed up the "8 more gigs" line... shouldve just said something like "Plus 16 gigs of storage", etc... but overall very strong...
Yeah i was just thinking that, i actually replayed the commercial because i thought it said only "8 GB's and not "8GB's More".
And for those who've never even heard of the Pre (alot), 8 Gb's more than what, horse radish?
Yeah, odd, clearly they were aiming for Pre buyers that were familiar with the Pre (no plus) but I think even for them they missed the mark and nobody knows Plus+ has 16 gigs based on the commercial.
You just know everything, don't you PrePuppy?
It's called common sense, something you miserably lack.
Oh btw, i see your username slightly changed, guess you got banned, troll.

Awesome ad!
Nice commercial, maybe they fired the other dumba$$ marketing agency and got a new one. Very Nice.
I can tell you that they did not fire their marketing agency. Believe me, if they did, I would know.
well maybe the marketing agency fired its employees instead...?
Can someone list the direct youtube link to be able to view on the pre? mine just shows a play arrow with a line across it as if to say its unplayable rather than the usual lego brick i could click and have load in a new card.
Direct link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCIP4IzpYKs
thanks. but i guess it got taken down already. i see theres a new link someone post below
Nice
Good commercial, but are they broadcasting it anywhere? Has anyone seen this on TV?
Finally a commercial that explains webOS a tad. Is youtube recently slow for anybody else? Its driving me nuts.
can someone post a youtube link here so we can see it on the Pre? I tried a search, but could not find it. Thanks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCIP4IzpYKs&feature=player_embedded
Does this really work?
Every time I try on my pre it tells me it can't find the video on youtube
With the "embedded" part removed.

What a novel idea, actually show off the features of the phone instead of trying to make something cute, funny, avante guard, etc. When will marketers learn that a majority of people just want to know what the damn product is and why they should buy it, not be entertained/confused/entrigued/mystified/impressed/etc. That stuff is fine when the product is a known quantity, but when most people don't even know anything about it, it's just not going to register and people will forget about it and they aren't going to think about it the next time they go into their carrier, especially with the sales droids distracting them with whatever the promo of the week that gets them some additional commission bonus happens to be.
To sum up, this a great meat and potatoes ad that helps people learn about this phone which a lot of people aren't aware of. We need lots of these from Verizon and Sprint and Palm itself. Get to work, guys!
I have said this before - no one at Palm seems focused on the fact that most people do not have a clue what this phone is about. The incompetency in their marketing department runs so high, I bet they could read your statements and not figure out what you are talking about. As you know, Sprint is the same way. Even the president of Sprint seems clueless about the phone. I am with Sprint, but I seriously believe that from now on, Verizon should be Palm's launch partner! Friendship aside, this is business; and Sprint has had their chance.
Solution: Palm should either stop advertising the phone (since they will simply be throwing millions away), or ask Verizon to help them with the advertising (as in "Verizon, please help us explain to the public the features of the phone).
Exactly!
Yes....To infinity and Beyond!!!
Did anyone notice that "Brian's Pixi" is listed as one of the devices connected to the Pre Plus over Mobile Hotspot at :16?
Why would you connect the Pixi over WiFi to the Pre Plus Hotspot?
Saw that too... hilarious!
Oddly, Brian appears to have a "Pixi" and not a "Pixi+". So, if a Sprint Pixi, it can't be there in the first place. If a Pixi+, why not say it's a plus and promote the fact it can wifi. But, yes, in the end, who would link a broadband and wifi enabled phone to a hotspot? Sloppy.
but they are lying... you cant merge outlook events. outlook is not the same as exchange.
Facebook calls its calendar entries 'events'.
So "...merge your Facebook Events, Outlook and Family Calendars..." refers to Calendar entries in Facebook, Outlook and Google respectively.
yes, but I guess most people, when they hear Outlook, thinks about the MS PC program -- without an Exchange Server in the background. And native webOS is not capable of merging anything with my local outlook calendar. or has that changed?
I respectfully disagree. I have been using Exchange server at my company for 13+ years now. When I hear Outlook I never think of it as a standalone program. In fact, most everyone I work with refers to Outlook and Exchange almost interchangeably, with the edge going to Outlook.
I respectfully agree.
Hey, a fresh post of yours that no one else has marked as: TROLL. :)
I side with the original view, most consumers do not use Exchange server. Microsoft Office is the most popular office application and is being wildly sold to the average consumers; including families/households. These consumer see Outlook (and also Outlook Express) as a product that is completely separate from Microsoft Exchange.
was that so hard? Palm take notes for the Pre2 or else i see harder times for your company...
If there is a hardware refresh. As a Sprint user I'm hoping they do but I'm concerned about that actually coming to fruition!
Good Stuff. The Pre does so much stuff it's kinda hard to describe without giving a full on lecture. I usually just tell friends it does a lot shit and leave it at that. They did a much better job with these new ads.
Excellent spot. Shows off some Pre high points. Sure, it doesn't cover everything, but no 30 second spot is going to be able to do that, plus mention the carrier, plus mention the offer. Definitely a step up!
Great ad that should sell a few
In just 30 seconds they mentioned and/or visually demonstrated:
Sleek Hardware Design
Physical keyboard
Multi-tasking UI with Card metaphor
Synergy
Smart Notifications
Mobile Hotspot
Awesome 3G Network
Free Pixi Plus with the purchase of a Pre Plus or Pixi Plus
8GB more storage (agree with previous posters they should have just said 16GB storage)
Attractive price
Well, if VZ is trying to not oversell the Pre+ over droid and hope to bait/switch potential buyers, that would be the only reason for them not not be specific. The whole "8 more" concept couldn't/shouldn't come up unless they had a slightly underhanded motive. No complaints though, it shows Palm in a positive light, let the buyer fend for himself.
I think in the case of this ad, it is so strong overall that the amount of storage should not distract from the overall message. Most people who have any degree of interest in the phone will visit Verizon's website to read up on the details; and there they will be pleasantly surprised that the phone has 16GB of storage. But your other point about Droid is important; Verizon should communicate to its sales people that when a customer goes into the store inquiring about the Palm smart phones, no attempt to push another brand of phone should be made. Palm should send scouts to the Verizon stores to make sure that its products are represented fairly.
Best Frackin' Pre commercial yet. Big Red has done a better job than either Sprint or Palm. Palm & Sprint should take note and show off WebOs the way VZW has in future commercials.
The Pre is such a great device yet its not being marketed as such.
Was looking at the Windows Phone UI demo and they took quite a lot from Palm. They have the universal search, the multitasking, the notifications and they describe all of that as groundbreaking.
Their UI is different and does make everyone's icon based UI look old. I hope we get a better looking UI in webOS 2.
Also checked the Symbian 3 demo and it's poor. It's like this generic iPhone/Android UI that's like 2 years too late. There's nothing special about it and there's a lot of buttons and submenus to click to get anything done. To be fair, the Windows Phone UI also seemed more complex than the the iPhone's or webOS. It' slick, but I'm not sure I want to spend so much time figuring out how to do stuff in there.
So for now webOS is still the best, but the competition is awakening.
Now, about these ads, they are much better.
I saw the Windows Phone user interface and just did not like it. It seemed confusing and was not intuitive. I would get bored with it really fast. I guess webOS has changed my perspective on all of the other phones. I think webOS 1.0 user interface is so much fun, I would not want Palm to do anything with it.
The competition is awakening? LMAO!
honestly, what is your purpose here because you seem to only want to piss people off...

Perhaps we should consider a comment rating. So people like HondaC0p can't have what they call fun. Works great on other webpages. If a comment has a bad rating it will be deleted. Banning Users doesn't work for me. They can create a new account in 20 seconds. I would love to give HondaC0p bad ratings =).
The Commercial is very nice!
+10 I will also be able to rate others. =)
agree on all parts!
Me too, kiddo!
agreed on both statments or we could just ignore him and sooner or later he will go away fuckin troll
Yea, I can't wait to also rate everyone else! WOOT! =)
I agree with the rating system
Yup, can't wait for it to be installed. =)

+9000 for rating system.
I'll call your 9000 and up it to 20000.

@Derek Kessler,
Member - "HondaC0p" is disrupting our discussions; I am not sure whether PreCentral has any policies in this regard.
People who are consistently not contributing in a positive way and are doing things simply to irritate others should be removed from PreCentral. Note: I am not talking about people whose views we don't like. Maybe we should send our comments directly to the moderators - and get their feedback.
when people ask I say I have a palm it just happens to have a phone on it
awwwwwwwwwwwww that is so sweet
Awesome... huge improvement! I think they pretty much mentioned everything except gaming. Maybe the next ad will mention that?
Lookin forward to some multi player action!!
alright unlike the troll hondacop I gotta life so I'm outta here for a bit yall take it easy and don't feed the troll peace out
Laterz kiddo.
Of course verizon would change their commercials. The Pre Plus is outselling(my word) the Droid.
kiddo kiddo kiddo... cartoon network kiddo.
I agree they should have said 16 GB but by them saying 8GB more they were able to take a small shot at Sprint. That was basically for Pre customers who complain of the 8GB space. You can't bash the Pre as a weak product and then promote the Plus directly. That would be like saying Palm sucks but buy this other Palm it doesn't suck. Tactical but not enough for me to make a switch.
Pretty good commercial.
Plus. Plus. Plus. Kinda catchy. Hopefully they continue this and use it to show more features of the phone.
+++There is only 1 thing lacking form the commercial.
They need to show that when the touchscreen is being interacted with, they either show a finger or the "white glow" of the finger's placement.
Otherwise Great Ad!
LMAO! Like that is going to make or break the deal! hahahahahaahah LMAO LMAO ROTFLMAO =D

This was the commercial I saw last night and heard the notification sound and got up to look at my pre!
None of the links in the comments work on the Pre to watch. Why can't we watch it from the normal flashless link? I'm stuck at work unable to watch this with a perfectly good Pre to do so but no working link. Has anyone been able to view this on theirs?
Get back to work, kiddo.
where can I watch this the links above d not work
They should be coming to your TV very soon, kiddo.
Great ad. I would have done 2 things differently: as many have mentioned, I've have gone with "16G of memory", rather than "8 more", and I'd have replaced "smart notifications" with "notifications that don't interrupt what you're doing".
Thanks for your suggestions. They will be forwarded to Verizon.
Nice informative commercial of the Pre that could entice new costumers...which is always a great thing. The video is on YouTube guys so open up that app to view it...wherever you may be =) Also, HondaCop...ugh...forget it. Not even worth my words.
Neemi ughhh forget it, can't even pronounce your name.
Guys just ignore hondacop. The more responses from you the more he/she will be around. Think the crazy uncle or relative that people put off in the corner at family gathering because they make no sense. Same applies here.
I thought it was kind of cute, the Palm Pre (small pause) Plus.
Good ad. It is about time they have an ad that doesn't scream, nerdy, girly or just weird.

Finally a good ad!!!
They only miss the touchstone charger and 3D games but anyway it's 100 times better than palm ads!
Hopefully for round 2 they will then promote whatever they missed on this one, I mean after all they just have 30 sec to say all they want.
, xanax, generic ultram, xanax online, tramadol online, depakote, cialis online,
About time... those Moms were scary to look at...
IMO they were TONS better on the eyes than the creepy Pre girl
OMG that was a real commercial, no creepy lady no creepy mom just the phone and its features!
where ist the update for palm pre ?
:-(
According to the keynote in Jan. Palm said "it will be coming in February." They never gave a date. So there almost still two weeks left of this month.
We shouldn't be so disappointed that WebOS 1.4 wasn't released today. Feb 15th is a US holiday, and I doubt Palm would want to release an update to their flagship product on a day when nobody would be in the office to address issues. It would seem the rumor may have been referring to the 15th as the day the update would be released to Sprint/Verizon for review and approval (the leaked screen cap probably came from someone inside Sprint). I imagine it would come to us in the next week or so. Hang in there a little longer. It'll be Christmas again soon!
Chuq at Palm said power was out in the Sunnyvale office. Didn't specify what happened, but I'm gussing that's one big reason not to do a push.
http://twitter.com/chuq/status/9148488892
Very nice find Atomic. That is the first plausible and satisfying explanation we've heard all day.
Just saw this commercial while watching '24' on Fox a few seconds ago.
Definitely better than any the earlier commercials from Palm and Sprint. This one actually shows the phone for man to 5 seconds. Great commercial, just wish Sprint had a better marketing strategy when the first pushed the Pre.
guys..is that just me or the youtube video is not available any longer?
none of the youtube links are working... :(
Would be nice to know if Palm is willing to market the Plus's in to Europe...
I creamed my pants when I seen this last night!!!! Made me proud to be Pre owner!!!
I just occured to me that the reference to "8 more gigs" could be a dig at Sprint, the way the map is a dig at AT&T.
Plus Plus Plus, whatever...
Sprint Pre is still rocking without the pluses.
I'm looking further for Pre2 (WebOS running on >1Ghz chip, 1GB RAM)
Glad Verizon Pre graduated and not positioned the phone only for mommies. I felt left out and just got shoved into little room.
Glad Verizon is doing its part now showing capable phone.
Every time I click on one of the provided links (from my computer), YouTube informs me that the video is private. I don't have cable, so won't see this on TV either.
