Vote for the Apps You Want to See Come to webOS 122
by Robert Werlinger Mon, 17 May 2010 2:04 pm EDT
In the smartphone world, it sometimes takes community involvement to encourage developers to bring the software we want to our platform of choice. The webOS community generally, and the PreCentral community specifically, tend towards the more active side of the spectrum and when they want something, they're more likely to get it. P|C Forum member nulall has put together a thread linking to projects that that need your vote in order to come to webOS, including qik, Dropbox, Quickoffice, Seesmic, and plenty more. Go ahead: pop in, and give your vote!

FIRST to say, "I love PreCentral's community!"
I doubt you are the FIRST to say it, but if it makes you feel better than okay.
docs to go or an alternative
olivetree bible or an alternative that includes on device bibles of Red Letter NIV
sirius radio
Rhapsody or napster client
Checkbook app that will sync with my wife's webos device.
+1 for Rhapsody. I've been holding onto my Rahpsody-to-go subscription for the past year even though my Creative Zen is broken hoping that webOS would get a Rhapsody App or Flash (which would let me access Rhapsoday via my browser).
the iPhone and Android both have one, come on Rhapsody, I've had my subscription for over 5 years, don't lose my business.
sorry repeat
Most of those sites require you to set up an account to be able to vote :-(((
The mint and quickoffice sites are both down :-(((
Iambic Agendus for webOS.
YES - Iambic Agendus for webOS!!
SnapperMail or some better email app
Just a heads-up, I've already publicly said I'm working on a Dropbox app
Awesome! Really excited for this...
I dumped Dropbox and went to ZumoDrive awhile back, simply because they have a webOS client. Dropbox's loss is their gain! :)

yahoo messenger would be great.
sirius radio
You can already log into Yahoo messenger through the Pre's messenger App. Do you really need a separate App? Isn't that the point of the whole synergy concept?
I don't see that on the AT&T version.
chase, e trade, a native pre media sync, google turn by turn,
E-Trade +1 (just got Wells Fargo app, close all my chase accounts a couple weeks ago, their service sucks!)
how bout a Capital One bank app!
I'm desperate for some sort of Slingbox access.
A really good RSS reader. I've tried all of the ones that I can get (being a "foreigner" limits my choices so I can't download Scoop to give it a try). None of them comes anywhere close to NewsRack on my iPod (Google Reader, Feed Sorting, Twitter integration). Simply elegant solution. It's pretty much the only reason I still carry my iPod around. (http://www.omz-software.de/newsstand/)
quick office, redbox, sherwin williams, pizza hut (anything food or design related). HP print app...a must. and a better music app.
uhm, dude, there is a redbox app, came out last week: http://bit.ly/a3KXxs
and even an app with discount codes for redbox, and pizza places: http://bit.ly/9zfwPI
what the hey?
ESPN Radio, a better youtube, better music player, better gmail. Photoshop, Fidelity, ebay, bbc. i could go on and on. won't matter though. Nothing i'm interested in is out. i barely use three apps on my phone that aren't webos included apps. i'm not getting my hopes up. People have had long app request threads for just short of a year now. Hasn't mattered.
try auction mate for a ebay solution
htc evo type media (hi-def out put) etc. Spell check....too many to name
amazon kindle, native NPR app, docs to go. NETFLIX..
a kindle app would be so terrific. +1 for sure.
I'd like to see a webOS version of the Hipstamatic camera app, or something similar to it (since their website indicates they don't want to make an app for non iphone phones).
http://hipstamaticapp.com/
I would love to see a patch to add a local caldav server to my calendars!
//192.168.0.5:8080/path/to/calendar/
a KeePass port would be cool
+1. Didn't notice your comment before I added one.
I would love to have my slingplayer mobile back. One of my key reasons for going back to a palm phone was in order to get my slingplayer back. It was suppose to be out quite sometike ago and I'm hoping it comes out sooner than later
I posted some of the requests on my twitter account. Hopefully that will help.

I really want a WebOS mobile Quicken client along the lines of the PocketQuicken app that Landware had on the Palm OS. I do not want to replace my PC-based Quicken - just want to be able to enter transactions during the day and sync them later.
Unfortunately, Intuit (Quicken) pulled the license from Landware, so I doubt we'll be seeing one anytime soon.
I am hoping that Intuit will develop their own Quicken mobile client for the various platforms.
The way they are pushing the online site we may lose the PC software.
The only thing I'm really missing right now is a WebOs port of KeePass http://keepass.info/
Oh, I'd also like a Bing Maps app (with real traffic updates, not google delayed traffic)
The Yellow Pages app uses Bing maps, and it's really fast, with very pretty maps. No support for a traffic overlay, though . . . AFAIK.
Xmradio. A real way to work with my old Palm memos. A nice relational database program.
I would like palm to add an app that detects whining and complaining and shuts down the phone for 24 hours.
I want to see the app PhotoFolders - Private Photo Albums
NETFLIX
I want an Amazon or B&N e-reader app.
Bing maps
I'd also like the option of setting Bing in universal search instead of being stuck w/ Google
There's a patch for that (Bing in Universal Search)
shazam!!
Audible, please when can we have Audible support for webOS?
SHAZAM! I use it all the time on my Touch, and used to use it on my iPhone.
I would agree with Audible, as well. I download a book a week.
REMOTE DESKTOP CONTROL a la TeamViewer, LogMeIn, GoToMyPC, DameWare, RDP, etc.
Slingplayer seems to be waiting on Flash 10.1 to come to WebOS
http://www.everythingpre.com/blog/slingplayer-for-webos-not-coming-anyti...
double that! That that.
that. That.
Hey, you have an extra that in that there post Robert.
"projects that that need your vote"
A better calendar
okay first lets fix it so tthat I can actually INSTALL apps. I can't install the mobile hotstpot app that just came out!!!!!
Words with Friends. So I can play with everyone with an iPhone. They're all jerks anyway.
QuickOffice,(screw dataviz and Docs to Go, for turning their back to palm), Shopsavy, a REAL GOOD! PDF reader, like Felaur reader for Iphone.
ah! Skype too, I know we need more IPs for these apps but they supposed to be coming soon
First would be a mobile version of OpenOffice. Next would of course be Flash. After that, it becomes less urgent. A Napster to Go client would be nice, since I have gigs and gigs of music through that. Having a synergy-integrated voice recorder would be nice.
Actually, it would be REALly cool if an OS emulator could be had: imagine something which could run iPhone, Android, or Windows apps, in the same manner as the Classic program runs PalmOS apps.
A real barcode reader(ShopSavvy)would be awesome! I figured since we got video recording it wouldn't be that long. I'm not even close to being a dev, so maybe there are issues I don't know about.
And to echo some of the others
Shazam
Mint.com
Google Nav
Photo editing
and kind of on an off note, a patch to fix the Facebook time bug (even though I know that's a whole other battle)
It would be great to have the type of security lockout that previous Palms had. For example the hide under security in the memos. I loved that I could put information in the memos and lock them out. Now I have to lock the whole phone and it's a pain in the back cover. Not to take anything away from Homebrew, but they have some great functions that should be standard equipment in WebOS. Foremost on my list is locking the memos!!!
Dropbox
Shazam
Chase
Precentral!
Lifehacker
A simple pedometer that actually works, and is preferably free
Skype. BBC - although flash should sort that. A decent Google Maps with street view and add position to contacts etc.
Shazaam
Skype
Talking Carl
I would like to see Skype and Bejeweled for the Palm Pre.
A MUST have on all my other Palm Treo's was KEYCaps! I miss it soooo much and would buy it in a second!
http://www.geekandproud.net/software/keycaps650.php
The other "nice to have" app is self contained (not webOS dependent si another Astronomy app..
GPG 'nuff said.
Wait, check that, GPG integrated into the email application FTW!
GPS !! actually, a disk based gps, not the internet kind. like TOMTOM that worked in palm os. Please.
USAA, Skype, Precentral,
I would like to see:
Shazam, improvements to Google Maps, an official Twitter app, Digg.
Have you tried Digloo?
http://developer.palm.com/webChannel/index.php?packageid=com.rmxapps.digloo
Shazam
a good bar code reader
Skype
Chase (bank) app
better exchange calendar integration (categories, multiple calendars, etc.)
We do have a thread over here for dropbox already and we are doing pretty good in moving it up the line for some time now.
Please check it out here:
http://forums.precentral.net/general-webos-chat/224971-please-vote-dropb...
And register and vote, you got 6 votes every 30 days...now let's burn up the list, will we!?
Cheers
Ms. Pac Man! :)
Shazam
Pocket Tunes
Shop shavvy, USAA, google turn by turn
MLB at bat, ESPN radio, and something like phone my pc on android.
Vonage Mobile - had it on my iPhone and it't the best to call my family in Germany
and while I'm at it - Meebo messenger
urbanspoon would be nice...
urbanspoon would be nice...
Bank of America
Last.fm
FFFFOUND!
Shazam
Urbanspoon
Skype
RELEVANT.fm
Mint.com
A good Tumblr app (tumblbox isn't too bad though)
Hipstamatic
Google Mobile App
IMDB
FixPixel
NPR News
For Bank of America, I find their mobile site (bofa.mobi) works really well. It feels pretty "app-like."
For FFFFOUND!, dropee was a cool app that pulled images, many from FFFFOUND!, off of dropular.com. It seems to be busted, but it was really fun.
Yeah, Skype would be great.
slingbox app and a mint.com app.
Salesforce.com
Not an app but I'd like the unlock slider to tell me the outside temp at a glance... Jason...
@peanuthead47 There is already an app to tell you the weather on the lock screen. Weather Dashboard in the App Catalog.
shazam and google goggles if that's possible
I'd like to see the return of a high quality Google Voice app. I sorely miss gDial Pro, and the GV Mobile site isn't a great replacement.
a facebook app with facebook chat, friend suggestions, and better faster video.
I flash player app,
Zoom function,
Myspace app wont hurt lol
Open Office
Yodlee Native App.......please!
Splash Money (or Quicken), Splash ID with Desktop, DateBk6, 7, 8 or what ever version they've aspired to & I've missed; Skyscape Medical Apps, Taber's Medical Encyclopedia. These are the only reasons my Palm TX is still my real "work" device. My Pre is the "fun" device. Oh yeah, a Kindle app would be awesome too.
A decent PIM, and Shazam.
Roboform for WebOS with links into the browser to login would be great.
My top three would be Agendus, Agendus and Agendus.
After that, in no particular order, they would be Skype, IMDB, Bank of America, Shazam, and SiriusXM.
Until the other day, I would have added eWallet, too, but then I discovered jVault, and now I don't care about them.
* Better Exchange integration (can make meeting invites and accept/decline with comments)
* Skype mobile
* Terminal app that works
* Remote Desktop
* Audible
* Doc editor (OpenOffice?)
* KeyCaps
* ShadowPlan (task organizer)
I need LastPass. Bar Code reader would be nice and I'm glad they are working on a DropBox app. Is there a voice recorder app available? I just thought of it and haven't searched yet.
How about a BART app?
How about QIK in conjuction with SKYPE?? Hmmmmmmmm????
I wish like hell we could switch all iPhone users in the U.S. over to Verizon for 1 day just to see how Verizon's network would handle that much traffic. I'm betting it wouldn't handle it nearly as well as many of you think it would. And then we could stop with the fanboy arguing and just face the realization that all cell phone service providers suck equally.
http://www.articlesbase.com/health-articles/everbrite-smile-review-does-...
Some spell check like Android or BlackBerry.
Sirius, Skype, Slingbox. All dependent on the stupid flash player we were promised with the launch.
Splash Money
Full Google Maps w/Latitude
Better E-mail attachment support
Slingbox
Shazam
barcode reader
Flash
Faster camera with more features
I see a lot of sirius request, are there any fellow Bubba Army among us?
KeyCaps
+1 on KeyCaps. I'm missing my Treo a little bit.
I would love to see the native Buddies messenger receive more clients(Live, Yahoo, Jabber, Facebook, etc.). Also would like to have the sirius and OpenOffice would be awesome. I would think now that Palm was with HP they could also partner with someone like Songbird since it is cross platformed in the pc world to have a true media sync option.
Fox News and ditto on a inuit app for quicken...... On a side note I think Facebook would have a edge if it were designed similar to TweeMe...nice design
The game "FISH WORLD" from facebook
1. DOCS TO GO!
2. QIK! and skype
3. (I know this isnt an app) I want to be able to create my own jestures for whatever. Like if I want to go to an app (like my fav app) I wat to be able to personalize gestures and create more.
4. I want to also be able to have facebook chat in the facebook app, likte the iphone. I dont want to have to hack my phone to have it. :D
A decent Scrabble client that allows true online play via Facebook, like the app on that other phone I can't remember the name of.
1. Docs to go
2. Skype
3. Chase
4. Bank of America
5. Updated version of Google Maps(with street view and Latitude)
6. Google Earth
The BBC sport app.
It will stream World Cup 2010 matches for free.

Skype
Last.Fm
Docs to go
Spotify
MSN messenger
Yahoo messenger ...none present on O2 in the UK

Free Visual Voicemail and Sirius/XM App
CAMERA-B.
It works with a companion app on the iPad, and Bluetooth, to use the video/still camera on the phone as the iPad camera.
Skype, Skype, and did I mention Skype?
Without a doubt, I'd go and get Shazam MusicID the second that I found out that it were available...should it ever be available.
I would love for Skype to come to webOS I am an avid skype user but to get the same effect I think the Palm Pre will need a camera on the front of the phone as well. So until that happens a Skype for the Palm Pre for me is really not necessary. You can however get the HTC EVO by sprint but you have to pay a 10.00 data fee and a 29.95 data fee just to have the phone in addition to an unlimited data plan its not worth it I will just use my laptop for now.
Could I please have:
A tide tool
A world clock
A KeyCap utility (see palmOS equivalent)
And perhaps a button to silence/shutdown any/all data network connects.
Is there an ssh tool&&terminal that's any good?
Yes, I'm new here. No, I really didn't *choose* to abandon my palm.
And again back I'll be.\\r
