Vote for Palm in the 2009 Engadget Awards 47
Our friends over at tech blog Engadget have assembled the votes and put together the nominations for the 2009 Engadget Awards, and Palm is recognized in every category (five!) in which it ought compete. There’s some tough competition out there, but you know that we think that the Palm Pre and webOS indeed are the gadgets of the year. Despite the fierceness of the competition, the Pre and (surprisingly) Touchstone are holding their own in the polls. While we have no doubt that Palm is the tops, the only opinion that counts here is the mass opinion: your vote.
What’s Palm up against?

Gadget of the Year

Smartphone of the Year

|
GPS Device of the Year
|
Peripheral of the Year

|
Wireless Device/Tech of the Year

See? Tough competition there. As you can imagine, if the Pre and Touchstone are to stand any chance of remaining in the fight, they’re going to need your vote. Voting is open until February 20, 2010.
May the best gadgets win!

I hope Palm is considered pretty good, if only for the first to Actually Multitask. I definately don't think they will be number one because there is a lot that still needs work.
While I understand the Pre has tough competition against the iPhone 3GS and the Droid, I don't know why the Touchstone is also trailing to the Magic Mouse, and than WiFi N in another category.
Apple fanboy backlash. They consider the Pre a threat, so they attack at every opportunity.
Unfortunately Engadget's largest fan base are Apple enthusiasts heart and soul. Palm doesn't stand a chance against that legion for click through polling.
Amen. Was just about to post my eye-roll comment here as well.
The iPhone 3GS was in a marked lead for gadget of the year when I clicked through. Yeah it's a great gadget, but seriously? Ain't anything exciting or innovative behind it this year as compared to some of the other nominees.
They added video and charged a $100 more. Yippy, gadget of the year!!!!!
You're lack of truth behind this post shows your bias.
Video recording was added
3.2mega pixel camera
double the RAM
double the mHz
Spotlight searching
Voice dialing/commands
Copy and Paste
32gb storage
Compass
Improved battery life
I might have left a few things out...
"double the mHz" the iPhone 3G must have been pretty slow then.. Where are you getting you facts from ?
Funny, all of that except for the storage, camera, and RAM can be done through a firmware update and optimization of the phone.
I don't see Sprint or Palm charging us for the video recording that is coming in 1.4.
Point being, you don't need a new model for that.
If apple is on the ballot, don't bother.
A bunch of Apple pole smokers over there.
While we're on the topic of voting....

The iPhone is considered a 'smart' phone?

one step ahead of you chief. Voted yesterday. And you guys are right, gonna be a complete apple rout, or should I say, iRout.
It'll be an iflood of iFans iVoting along iParty iLines... It's gonna be an iSweep of iBiblical iProportions! iCarumba!
I won't vote for palm because they refuse to sell a proper GSM version for Europe (too bad because it's a really cool phone, with an interesting OS)
+1
WORD!
yes! that's so true! WORD!
Are you SERIOUS???? Console of the Year iPhone 3GS???
the folks at engadget must be smoking something nice to even put it in the category of a console.!!
it's the readers that do the nominations, and not the editors I believe.
Palm Pre below Nokia N900 :(
Its a nice Multitasking Brick with no practical application.
iPhone 3GS is practical but with a major limitation(multitasking).
HTC HD2 is only there bcoz of a fine work by HTC in hardware and their SenseUI
Meh, too bad Engadget is inundated with iFanBoi's for any other device to be even remotely considered.
Disclaimer: //Sarcasm, well, not really, but it has to be said.
My Palm votes are in, not because I own the phone but because they deserve it. Yay for underdogs.
But yeah, Apple fanboys are all over those polls. Even the Magic Mouse is winning... Anyone ever try to use that thing? It trades ergonomics for two-finger scrolling.
I'd also vote for the Droid if I could, I think Android as a whole will eventually pin Apple and take the tech out of the hands of morons and put it into the hands of techies again.
Apple fan here, Palm got all my votes, and yes, the Magic Mouse is a pile. How it is winning is beyond me (well we all know why it is winning, but doesn't deserve it!)
Palm doesn't stand a chance with Engadget's readerbase.
I still voted!
I've been using Apple products since the Apple //e and even I laughed at how all the Apple products are top vote, even when it can't do half the stuff the Pre or even Droid can do
I love my Pre!!!
Apple is winning everything.
IPad is the most anticipated device lol, over Project Natal and Sony's motion controller.
IPhone 3GS in the console category...WTF? Should be in handheld.
lol this is a pointless poll.
OMG~
I really enjoy reading the engadget site (because, they DO cover lots of peripherals and new emerging technologies), but, they are so partial to Apple and thier products, its beyond obvious.
Well, I voted where I felt comfy to, and, yes, I did vote for all Palm stuff, not because Im partial to Palm, but, because, this was truly how I felt.
Perhaps, in 6 months, I will feel differently?
Recent Wall Street analysts indicate that Palm's biggest advantage is that WebOS is such a good OS, that it alone makes them a take-over target; seriously, I believe Palm should be doing strategic joint ventures with companies like Nokia to allow one time licenses to use WebOS on that one co-developed device...
:)
I'm actually tempted to vote for the HD2 over the Pre. I love my Pre and all, and the multi-tasking is second to none, but god, the HD2 is just so beautiful.
It'd be interesting to see if they broke it down by software and hardware. I'd probably vote the HD2 hardware wise and webOS software wise.
In the end though I'm not going to vote. I read engadget all the time, but they really do have an obvious Apple bias. I have nothing against Apple. They have very nice products with flaws, but over all a great user experience. What I do have something against are their fan boys. Now I've met fan boys of all sorts of companies. I think everyone who's NOT an Apple fan boy can agree though: Apple fan boys are the most annoying people you can ever interact with. That's why that poll sickens me because I know the Apple fan boys will be running out en masse voting the Apple stuff to the top. (Btw I think fanboys are also why there's so many Apple haters. It's an automatic gut reaction to the people you want to punch in the face. Haters get absurd too tho.)
Engadget is full of a whole bunch of apple fan boys
Was gonna make an Apple Fan Boy Engadget comment, but boy am i late to the party haha.. but yea. If Apple's on there .. don't bother voting.
Android, Droid, HTC etc. = TRASH
iPhone and Palm Pre = TIE!
EDIT: Ok....fine...... iPhone = 1,000,000 and Palm Pre = 1,000,005
BTW: Every single apple product over there is like 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to like 5!?!?!
There are a lot of fanboys over there!
It's the lemming effect. People do what's being done... Apple had the first cool touchscreen smartphone so with no serious competition in this new category of phone they quickly had success of course. Now when people think touchscreen phone they think apple.
When I advertise my palm pre to potential smartphone shoppers though (family and friends) it doesn't take much to show it's superiority. Unless they're Apple fan boys they have gone for the pre. 4 family members so far...
None of these people even knew what a pre was until I showed them. Good job on advertising Palm, Sprint, Verizon.......
not that i condone cheating but if you clear cookies and history and such well you get what im saying
Yep!I went on to vote, but man..Apple has the lead on every category.Engadget,is definately an Apple-Fan-boy site.Anyway,i still voted for my lil PRE,because it deserve it,not because i'm fanboy, because of the technology it has.The PRE is a well-polished,OS system.
Nah, my blind support of palm ends today. Open the app store to Canadians all damn ready, you're either lazy or stupid. A palm pre with half the decent apps as the iphone sounds perfect, but I wouldn't know because they already took my money and cut advertisements, so who cares? It's all gravy now they don't have to do anything.
too much whining in this thread about apple fan boys by palm fan boys. May both get hit by a bus.
regardless, i don't know if i'd even vote for Palm considering the competition. I can tell you i'd surely not vote for a touchstone since i don't have one or want one. well i take that back. if it was free i'd take one but i'm not paying for it. my wall charger works fine and is faster. as for the other categories, well it's tough competition and i think Palm has zero chance of winning. it's a popularity contest.
Even if Palm Pre doesn't win, we should still vote if you truly believe that the Palm devices and accessories are better... show your support and cast your vote...at least you would see where we fall in the finally tally.
Some of the comments almost sound like what you would hear during a government election... I knew he/she would win so I didn't bother voting... :-(
+1
You are absolutely correct. I voted for the Palm Pre.
There are thousands of people at this site who know that the Palm Pre is the most innovative smartphone product of 2009. It won the Best of CES 2009 - the Computer Electronics Show.
Some people don't realize that they can make a difference. Even if your phone does not take first place, then help it take second place - that is still an honorable position for a smartphone in a competition.
Put in my votes.
Vote for Pre? Esh... why. How can I, when I'm not even a fan of my own phone.
Sorry to be a downer but it really does not deserve it.
Don't know why they're bothering with the polls, might as well just send all the awards to Apple and save everyones time :o(
they should make up a fictitious apple product like "imoble gsx" and see if it wins.
Everybody should vote to at least show that Palm and WebOS has faithful followers that believe in the product. I already voted!!
I voted for the Palm Pre.
