The wait is over: first two Astraware games hit App Catalog 16
The long-awaited entry of Astraware into the webOS gaming world has begun with the availability this morning of its first two releases (for devices running webOS 1.4.5, we're afraid; these are built using Palm's PDK), Astraware Sudoku and OddBlob. Astraware Sudoku includes features such as Puzzle-of-the-Day, allowing players to download a new daily puzzle and, once having completed it, upload their times to compare to others' around the world. As for OddBlob, here's Astraware's own description of the game:
Meet OddBlob: the groovy clay dude who loves to bounce! Help OddBlob bound across the squishy maze to grab bonuses, chomp fruit, and win points as quickly as he can as the chasing tiles disappear behind. Watch out for bounce and double bounce tiles that can help you reach your goal or throw you through the gaps to impending peril below! Cake slices earn you a try at the cake or doom mini-puzzle, the more bounces you make to get the cake, the bigger the bonus!
Based on the Astraware webOS page, it looks like Casino is the next title set for release, although Astraware has been tweeting that there will be more coming "in a few weeks." Given the library of games Astraware offers, we can't wait to see what's on the way.

cool beans!!! but i've literally been searching the app catalog everyday for angry birds...whats going on?
The angrybirds dev at first tweeted that the Pre version was ready but they had some issues with the Pixi version that was holding up the release.
After a lot of feedback from Pre owners they decided not to wait and release the Pre version first.
Yesterday they tweeted that they apologize for not getting it to the App Catalog in time but would try to get it into today's submission. So we may see it after the next AppCat update.
MORE! NOW!
I got so happy when I got a message saying the waitis over from precentral. I thought a new phone was announced. So sad :-(
Yay.
Until Verizon gets off their lazy butts and releases 1.4.5., all these nice shiny new apps are dead to me.
This is becoming a great place to find out about iPhone apps. :) Wake me up when someone writes a native app for WebOS worth talking about.
I prefer to think of it as a PalmOS app. :D Legit this and Tetris were the only gamesI played on PalmOS. Speaking of, does this version have keyboard support? Seriously, it's a dealbreaker if it doesn't.
Am I missing something here? Aren't these titles for the Pre? Or do you mean because they are not Pre "first" or Pre exclusive titles, they are not worthwhile?
Yes, you are missing something. These apps are not written for the Pre at all. They were written for the iPhone, and later, ported to the Pre. The PDK is little more than a thinly veiled iPhone game porting kit to make up for the fact that no one wants to write a native WebOS app. Now you know.
But the games will play on the Pre no matter what the circumstances of their birth, right? So what exactly is the problem - other than for some techno-snobs who may have a problem with how the game began?
I can guarantee you that any of those developers will GLADLY take my money. If that was not the case, they wouldn't spend the time porting anything. But they don't seem to have a problem doing that.
So now YOU know.
Thanks Verizon for another delay well done!
Why dont we see other types of apps besides games built using PKD? The palm HOT Apps website has nothing but games... Bring some useful apps ppl.. I have DS for games
+1
Games are cool, but not all of us are all about games.
I have to concur on the games issue. My hope is that succes fir the game developers translates to incentive for productivity app developers to spend some time porting their stuff.
No intrest in Soduku but got the "OddBlob" just because it was from Astraware, and they did not disapoint. The graphics are great and the game play is easy but different enough to hold your interest. My only complaint is that I wish the control was a little better it would make for less unplanned over the side jumps... But then again maybe that is part of the skill involved is taking the time to make sure that you tap in the right direction...
The games are cool but not too much interesting..
