didn't say much really

Really, what did you expect? Sometimes this website make it seem like every talk given out sets the stage for a big announcement and that every rumor really has some weight to it.

Too bad it was a web 2.0 summit and not a webOS 2.0 summit.

Also, you won't hear what's next for those afformentioned items. You'll just hear a "stay tuned."

Yeah but it's not an announcement forum for new products. Seems more like a tech industry/ideas and trends forum. The fact you're invited means you're still a player in the industry.

I thought they were going to make a special announcement or showing after the talk, what happened to it? Plus why didnt Todd Bradley came?

Where did yyou get the impression there would be a special announcement?

Tip: If you don't see a source for something like the mentioned 'special announcement' then don't expect it. PC didn't cite a source or provide a link for it so for all we know they were pulling it out of their ass. This site is very rarely a primary source for news, mostly it's tertiary, summing up or collecting what others have reported. Always remember to click through.

To play devil's advocate, most likely it was something Bradley was announcing and it almost certainly wasn't a big deal of any sort (wrong sort of venue). As for why he wasn't there, who knows. People have lives, stuff comes up.

There's also a "special announcement" planned immediately after their chat, but it's not clear whether that's related to Palm and HP or not.

They made the announcement. And the refreshments in the lobby were quite tasty.

Sounds like kkhanmd would like to know what the announcement was. Perhaps you should have replied to him/her?

what's the point?

I can't watch it on my pre anyways (no flash).. So goodnite zZzzz

I'm tired of hearing about what is going to happen in the next year...put up or shut up HP Palm. I'd prefer to hear silence over statements about their road map.

great video. great things are ahead for webOS hang tough everybody.

Agreed. They just got acquired for heaven's sake. Be patient. Everybody wants everything yesterday, but good things come to those who wait (let's hope).

I often read in the last posts and comments that some people say it is "childish" that we want to see action NOW. But I don't think so.

I would appreciate if Palm would read all those comments and I would also appreciate if we would have as much comments as possible on the facebook site of palm.

For more than one year we are still waiting for major improvements of the software. Not to talk about the poor hardware quality of the PRE.
I think it is from the customer side of view understandable that we are not amused about the fact that i.e. there is for 17 months now still no solution for an office app in webOS where I can edit word or excel files.

It is also not understandable why Palm sells already the new webOS 2.0 with the Pre2 and there is no word about a rollout date of the update that hopefully brings several improvements promised already since 1 year.
Especially because we all had to pay a lot of money for the device (it is sold for the same price like HTC devices).

And sorry HP / Palm I have absolutely no understanding for those delays caused by the merger - this is not my problem.

The standard statement of Palm "be patient - it will come the next months" isn't really enough to satisfy all those people who already wait since months (or longer) for major improvements.

I'm not sure, does a firm cheese or a soft cheese go better with that particular type of whine? Your little menstrual-fest is so full of inane self-involvement I don't know how your internet connection didn't choke on it.

Does your phone do everything you need it to do? If yes, STFU. If no, then get a phone that does. You're loyal to Palm you say? Congrats, you're exactly the type of sucker marketing types dream about, an iSheep wearing a different label. Either STFU and enjoy the phone you have or get a new one. Either way.... Get. Over. It.

To address your individual hemorrhoids... Word... Scratch. WebOS2.0 rollout date? Not Palm's decision, talk to the SP's. If you think any of the HTC devices will be getting updates 12 months after they were releases then you're a total moron. Don't understand merger delays? Well that's not HP's problem either, nothing they can do about you being an idiot.

Handle someones complaints with insults and excuses. Check.

What excuses?

Insults? When I read mindless, thoughtless lazy drivel like that post you bet. The "I want a new phone now! Now, now, now now, NOW!" Attitude by the poster, and others, is childish at best, infantile might be better. What they need most is what all spoiled whiny brats need, a good swat and some time in the corner.

Respond to a post about insults with more insults? Check.

I assume HP/Palm doesn't want to announce new products to decrease Pre 2 sales... But honestly I would think HP is so big that a small dip in Pre 2 sales wouldn't make a difference. HP bought Palm for its strategic value for the next 5-10 years not for 1 year of smart phone sales. But it may be worth the uptick in hype by announcing future webOS products now to keep webOS users from defecting. (maybe that's problem with huge company- inflexible policies and slow decision making)

Not to sound like a Troll, but I don't expect they will sell too many Pre 2s anyway. Most hardcore webOS supporters are waiting for "major" hardware & the general public is following the pied piper to Android or iOS.

Your assumption is wrong. HP is unlikely to release a different phone that would be in the competing feature/pricepoint.

HP is likely holding off on any announcements because they know how quickly a product can become 'tired' between announcement and launch. They have dates for launches on the calendar. Bank on that. They also don't want to announce a device more than 4-6 weeks before launch. 2 months at the absolute most. Remember the long wait for the Pre? By the time it came out, the hype from the announcement had died and people's response was along the lines of "Oh, that? Isn't that already 6 months old?"

True... That's why Im hoping that when they announce some new hardware in CES theres a release date by end of the month.. Not 6 months later..

That was a very interesting talk. It was cool to actually hear about some of Rubinstein's background and experience from the man himself. It was also interesting hearing him talk about the early development plans for webOS and the strategy behind it, and how HP has fully embraced that vision and will allow it to be delivered across multiple devices to create a seamless product experience. WebOS will become synonymous with HP / Palm, and you'd have to be pretty short-sighted to see the incredible potential there.

most of the detractors are the same group of people that said that apple is a dead company and that you'd be a fool to use their equipment... then had to eat their hats. I'm just going to chill and wait for HP to get going. HP is a juggernaut... It takes a little while to get started and then is pretty unstoppable (look at the old ipaq line for references.) Let's see how this conversation is going this time next year.

Most of these detractors don't think past 'right now' to tomorrow, never mind next year.

Actually, the detractors are the ones smart enough to look at the market and realize that, even on the off chance that HP has some super phone in the works, their best effort won't be enough to keep WebOS alive. The detractors are smart enough to look at WebOS 2.0 and realize it fixes none of the flaws that caused the smartphone market at large to reject it. The detractors are the ones who have accepted that nobody is developing applications for WebOS because the perception is it's a dead-end operating system. The detractors are the ones who consider what HP said about not wanting to get into the smartphone business and realize it's probably true based on everything they've done since acquiring Palm. The detractors are savvy enough to understand that the departure of the creative minds behind the DNA of WebOS is very much tantamount to rats abandoning a sinking ship.

But, hey, feel free to insult them and feel smug about being cool enough to use WebOS. We need you, PreDogs, and CobraKon to stay behind to turn the lights off, anyway.

!Bien dicho!

And ROFL at the "turning of the lights" part.

Brendilon hmmm..... this is one special character for sure... a psychological guru with the wisdom and knowledge to judge someone's character from the comfort of his living room.... on a fairly insignificant blog no less... I love Web-OS, but it is people like Brendilon that stopped me from commenting on this crap.... I just couldn't resist this time.... Complainers welcome..... Go Web OS!!!

ninjasinc, +1000
that is money in the bank! so spot on!

I wasn't expecting a product announcement but I was at least hoping he would say they plan on having something to show at CES.

I don't understand this attitude Palm/HP has that they seem to think they don't need to give the masses any nuggets of info. People have been frothing at the mouth since May for next gen hardware and all that's been shown is the Pre 2. Even THAT came out with no buzz. I understand they can't show what they don't have but do they not know the definition of a tease? Did HP also buy Palm's marketing plan?

It would be nice if the got some marketing direction by someone that knew what they were doing. This is pathetic.

I don't think I am going to wait around for HP/Palm anymore. I am tired of my Pre (Sprint) and want something new, but I will miss having and using WebOs. If something great from HP comes out I will def be back, but I am tired of no new news and waiting.

True nothing new was revealed here. Rubinstein like always stays on script. What is different here is JR's demeanor. He is clearly more relaxed than I've ever seen him. I see this as confidence with HP now behind what Palm and JR have been doing. Two months for new devices is nothing. I can wait and based on this interview I think there are big things coming for Palm, HP and webOS.

But be carefull: It won't be only 2 months. Remember the unveilling of the Pre: It took 6 months until it really was available (here in Germany 10 months). So it would be nice to see new devices but for most of us it is more important that they are available.

Furthermore, what makes a lot of us very angry: They sell already devices with webOS 2.0 - why the hell is there absolutely NO information about the rollout date of the update??
