webOS 1.2 'Delayed'
So Sprint is continuing their Keystone Kops marketing plan for the webOS - after allowing the $150 Palm Pre pricing message to be thoroughly muddled with on again, off again credit and allowing their partner, IPCS, to get the price drop a day early, they put up a support page saying that webOS 1.2 would be out on September 8th. That page still says so as of this writing. Um, sorry, no. We guess grabbing up exclusivity on the Pre and the HTC Hero, then releasing the HTC Touch Pro 2, and finally getting the Pixi first probably just made Sprint a little flustered.
Anyhow, we're all anxiously awaiting webOS 1.2 and the story about when it's going to land is this: when it lands. Some Palm reps have said that it was pushed back later this month (thanks dianehelen!). In Sprint's official forums, Buzz About Wireless, a moderator comes out and says that 1.2 has "been delayed" but that it won't be long (thanks dior504!).
So even though it wasn't announced and it's not exactly fair to say this, we're going to call it: webOS 1.2 was probably meant to have been released yesterday and has been delayed. There's plenty of speculation in the forums that it might come out quite soon, just as soon as Palm finds out if they have to fix iTunes sync again if Apple breaks it with iTunes 9.
How long will it be? Search us (no, literally, search us, we have plenty of info on webOS 1.2 here), but as many, including tipster markbugs, have pointed out, Palm's own update information page has changed in that they removed the version number from the icon, so that's a good sign. It'll get here when it gets here, hopefully carrying along some of the software enhancements found on the Palm Pixi.
