webOS 1.3.5.1

Version information

  • Version: webOS 1.3.5.1
  • Release date: 5 January 2010

New applications

NONE

Feature changes to existing applications

App Catalog

  • App Catalog significantly improves the application download experience.
  • A user can now download multiple applications simultaneously.
  • Downloads continue in the background if the user moves away from the download screen.
  • A user can manually pause, resume, and cancel downloads.
  • A user can also download all available updates for the user’s downloaded applications with a single tap.
  • App Catalog automatically resumes downloads in cases where a download was paused because it was interrupted—for example, if a user moves out of network coverage and then moves back into coverage.
  • Users can now take advantage of the full storage capacity of the phone for downloading applications. This gives the user more control over how to allocate the phone’s storage space across applications, music, photos, and other media. Downloaded applications are now stored on the phone’s USB drive.
  • App Catalog lists search results based on an improved search algorithm.

Calendar

  • In Day view, switching between days happens more quickly.
  • This release fixes an issue in which the Calendar app displayed no events for any account after a user synchronized Calendar with an Exchange account. With this update, Calendar events now appear correctly after an Exchange sync.

Date & Time

  • When the user has network time zone enabled, a city and country are no longer displayed.

Device Info

  • A user can perform a full erase by pressing and holding Sym + the orange/Option key + power for 10 seconds.

Email

  • A user can now edit forwarded text for all email account types.
  • When the user sets up more than one Yahoo! email account, the account names displayed in Account List view include the associated email address so that the user can distinguish them.
  • If an account mailbox is too full to send messages, after the user frees up space in the mailbox on the server, the user can send the messages successfully.

Messaging

  • If a user deletes a conversation with a contact, new conversations with that contact are now correctly displayed in Conversations view.

Screen & Lock

  • When the screen is locked, the time displays in a new font.

System

  • Users can now take advantage of the full storage capacity of the phone for downloading applications. This gives the user more control over how to allocate the phone’s storage space across applications, music, photos, and other media. Downloaded applications are now stored on the phone’s USB drive.
  • This update improves battery life in areas of poor wireless network coverage.
  • If the user is working in an application that supports landscape mode (such as Web or Videos), notifications now appear at the bottom of the landscape screen.
  • After a user signs in to an existing Palm profile, applications the user installed from App Catalog are restored in the background. The user can use other features of the phone while the apps are being restored.
  • Swiping to delete a list item that contains a link no longer causes the link to open in the web browser.

Updates

  • After taking the 1.3.5 update, users can download future updates over a 2G (1xRTT, GPRS, EDGE) data connection by opening Updates and tapping Download Now.

Web

  • The web browser now supports the display of animated GIFs.
  • Audio files with a .3g2 extension play correctly as audio files, not video files.

Product-specific information

Email

  • The default email signature no longer includes the macron over the “e” in “Pre,” so that the product name shows correctly on a recipient’s phone.

Security

This release includes a security fix to the dev portal. Credit to Kris Siegal for reporting the issue.

Individuals interested in contacting Palm to report suspected security issues can find more information at palm.com/security .

Installed and everything is working fine.

I think this is because five minutes before seeing that a patch was available I had sent Bell a message asking what was up.

You can all thank me!

Now I should send another message regarding the app store... =)

I think you should!

Ha Ha Ha

I'm a Pre, and 1.3.5.1 was MY idea!!

Unpatched and updated. Reinstall of Preware. No issues at all! Awesome guys! Now... onto Doom and Quake! :)

Always room for improvement, but I'm definitely seeing a speed improvement almost across the board. Quite happy. Here's hoping for many more updates like this one.

PREWARE not installing... damn

The automatic installer isn't updated yet, but it worked okay for me through webosquickinstall via the feds.

did y get preware to work?

same here!

Hopefully in Europe by the w/end? :-)

That would be nice...pretty please Palm/O2!!

Europeans feeling like 3rd class citizens.... again

Yeah, but what else is new?

stop complaining and start using sprint version of webos. u can use 1.3.5.1 in europe tooo. all u have to do is change to sprint from o2

I happen to be using the sprint version on my GSM Pre for your information, as are many GSM users on this forum. Not only is the O2 update liable to have GSM-specific fixes and more official support, it's also a matter of principle, we always get screwed over here in Europe, you'd be bitching about Sprint if you had to use an update from another carrier, so quit being so narrow-minded and go troll elsewhere.

This had to be the worst update ever. I haven't even had a chance to play around with it.

I did the usual remove theme then EPR. Well EPR did crap all. All the patches were still there. I then manually removed them. The update took for flippin ever to do. Then when it restarted the phone wouldn't recognize my laptop as a laptop, only as USB power. I had to force restart on the phone to get USB and media sync back.

I used QuickInstall to renistall my theme which now gives me some silly error related to changing the application partion and I dunno what else. It installed however QuickInstall doesn't see it as a theme. I then used QuickInstall again to install all the up-to-date patches. Well all was good until I restarted Luna. I had that same stupid device not being recognized by the PC BS. A restart didn't fix it this time, so I did a partial erase. Nothing. So I did a full erase. That got my PC to re-recognize it but now Preware and QuickInstall didn't find the packages as installed.

So I give up. Rolling back to 1.2.1 WebDoctor. Reinstalling the OS as we speak. Hopefully by 6AM my time I might have a functioning phone again.

Those problems have nothing to do with the update.

weeeeeeeee splat... its uploading 1.3.5.1 (?) now... lets see what happens

hurry up o2, take the micky honestly

I was so pumped to get the update... now I see there's no significant difference. Not sure why I wanted this. Oooo.. new font.

I got my Palm Pre when 1.3.1 was already available in europe. How long did it take to let 1.3.1 be available in europe since it first came out? Maybe I can then appraise how long it will take for 1.3.5.

I still see the app catalog in Beta mode... must be something specific to Bell phones then.

Is anyone having problems getting the accelerator to work properly after installing 1.3.5 on Sprint? At best it works once in a while; quite frustrating especially in light on new apps available that accent this feature. But just in general I turn my Pre to view documents/email/websites and it doesn't cooperate 80% of the time.
Help, please!

No paid apps... aaah!!

No Yahoo messenger? :(

gtalk and aim suck, it'd be nice to have a network that I could actually talk to people with

Anticipating 1.3.5, I removed my theme last week. Saw 1.3.5.1 for Bell at midnight MST. Ran EPR, did the update, restored 23 patches and the theme. My Pre is back in business with NO PROBLEMS!!!

Is it stuck at "Unpacking" for anyone else?

nope i gotta say.. after doing a few other updates,,, i dont have a lot of stuff on my phone,,, no homebrew stuff... i ran it thru its paces,, nice very nice... browser is faster,, the checkerboard is only there for an instant an only when i really move around a large page calendar is much better.. like the app download setup alot.. now,,, all i want for my wifes bd Jan 21 she is 19 again (this will be the ummmm 22nd time lolol) is flash and voice dialing.. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee splat,, the other stuff is like docs to go and a sync system i am willing to pay for is all stuff that will come from other places...

This was the WORST update ever. After I upgraded I had no signal on the phone for 2 days and was forced to roll it back to 1.3.1. Shitty move palm. Shitty move.

It's embarresing they claim to have made the calendar faster. Yeah it is, but it seems the only thing they did was to erase all appointments older than 3 months from the calendar :( - to it speed up.

Treo/Centro had all appointments (and could search them) and it was still super fast.
