webOS 1.4.5 finally available for AT&T Pixi Plus 31
It's been a long road to getting webOS 1.4.5 on all the webOS devices available in the US, but the AT&T Pixi Plus is receiving the update now, as AllTec tips and jonsmith89 reports in our forums. webOS 1.4.5, if you didn't know, brings the ability to download a much larger number of 3D games along with several other minor fixes. Palm's release notes for webOS 1.4.5 show there's not much beyond the PDK app compatibility:
System
This release includes minor fixes and enhancements to support the public release of the webOS PDK.
Web
If a user enters text in a field on certain websites, the screen focus now remains on the text being entered.
This release fixes a rare problem so that podcasts now download correctly.
Security
This release addresses several security issues with the Palm webOS software.
By our reckoning this only leaves Telcel in Mexico lacking the latest version of webOS. With luck, it will come soon.
Meanwhile, AT&T Pixi users - what's the first game you'll download on your newly updated Pixi?
Thanks AllTec and jonsmith89!

About time. AT&T will probably get webOS in 2012.
This isn't 1.45 related but my brother, who owns a nexus one, just made fun of me defending Palm the last few months because of the Palm Pre 2 news today. I don't know what else to say. Even if this is a minor release, preparing for more phone releases in January, this is some more bad marketing and execution by Palm.
The Pre 2 is likely part of Palm's pre-HP product roadmap - when they had next to nothing in terms of resources. Besides maybe a refreshed Pixi 2, I'd guess we're going to see some compelling hardware next year once the HP product roadmap becomes visible.
That's exactly what's going on. I'm sure HP took a little extra time on the Pre/Pixi 2 for more durable testing/hardware though. If you want to be impressed wait till Q1 2011 when "multiple devices" have been stated to be released.
They should call the next Palm the Palm Wait because Palm users have basically been waiting since the beginning of 2009.
I heard it will be called
"PALM Post"
as it will come out after every other smartphone has been released....
I was thinking of the Palm Tease, but then that sounded a bit dirty.
nice, right before 2.0 comes out.......sheeeesh!
"In other related news, Palm released webOS 2.0 to everyone but AT&T's Pixi Plus users and Telcel Mexico."
^ Tomorrow's headline post here ^
That's not a very fair headline as it implies that it is Palm and not the carriers who are holding up the release.
who cares whom to blame, we've been left behind fair and square, and palm technical service is not saying anything about it
ABOUT TIME!! GAH lol...oh well just glad they finally released it!
this is great- shows AT&T's commitment to Palm!
I mean, AT&T could have just blown off the pixi and waited for 2.0 or forgotten about Palm altogether with the iOS and now WP7 hype. I think this is a good sign that Palm still matters to AT&T.
Or we can thank ReleaseMyPre Guy!! PAAALMMM!!
Dieter, do you ever sleep?
I love that AT&T is finally getting this released it's only been what 4 months? How long will it take them to release 2.0? It took Sprint long enough to release 1.4.5, I'd hate to have to wait on AT&T or Verizon. Why doesn't Palm just bypass the carriers like Apple does? The carriers should have no more involvement with your phone's OS updates than your ISP does with your computer's OS updates. They are simply a pipe, nothing else, they shouldn't be able to hold up OS releases.
AGREED!
AGREED!
sleep is overrated. You just need to blink a few times to make sure your eyeballs don't dry up and fall out of there sockets.
go get angry birds people!!
SQUAWK!
I'm so sorry AT&T people
Wow! with all the 2.0 talk i didn't even occur to me they hadn't gotten it.
To be honest this is just sad now, how late this is
AND I want you all to stop bashing the Pre2 before you see it. I like the Pre's form factor and I like the improvements its getting, sure it would be nice to have more, but give it solid build quality, the speed, some nice polish, webos 2.0 and I'll be quite happy.
Dieter, on a somewhat unrelated note... point your Pre browser to & have a look at the test results. Interesting score for our browser. Thought we might've scored a little higher. My apologies if this is old news to you.
Hooray for my AT&T brethren! Don't loose your jobs playing Angry Birds today!!!
anyway we can push Telcel to "think" about the upgrade??!?!?!?
we are still in 1.4.0, thus unable not only to have cool 3D gaming, but also to overclocking, and many other cool homebrew apps!
That's not the worst, I have a bug where typing makes double keystrokes, sso II ennd upp ttttyping liike thhis
And this was fixed in 1.4.1, but nooooo, I'm starting to think telcel just dropped support.
Also
No paid apps
v_v ef u telcel
you might need to doctor your pre
At this rate, AT&T won't get webOS 2.0 until the third-gen Palm phones come out.
Yet as long as this has taken to get out, the Palm calendar still doesn't correctly handle repeating events during daylight savings time.
Glad to see it. Now if mine will stop forcing me to do a full erase every couple of days because the touchscreen fails.
