by Dieter Bohn Sun, 28 Feb 2010 11:18 am EST

Just about 24 hours after it landed on Sprint, webOS 1.4 is now available for Verizon Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus.  Get your update on, Verizon users, then check back and let us know how it goes. Verizon changelog after the break...

Thanks to everybody who sent this in!

webOS 1.4

Release date: 27 February 2010

New applications

NONE

Feature changes to existing applications

Amazon MP3

  • When you download a song, the application shows the estimated download time.
  • If you purchase an album containing two or more identically named songs, Amazon MP3 now downloads all of the songs correctly.

App Catalog

  • An application developer can feature a video in App Catalog by providing a YouTube URL for the developer’s application. The URL appears as a link on the app details screen. Tapping the link opens the video in the phone’s YouTube application.

Bluetooth

  • If you create a conference call from two outgoing calls, you can now end the conference call from a headset, if the headset model supports this feature.

Calendar

  • You can customize calendar notification sounds in Preferences & Accounts. The options include Mute, System Sound, Ringtone, and Vibrate. The Ringtone option includes new notification sounds to give you more customization choices.
  • With this release, future occurrences of repeating Calendar events consistently appear correctly.
  • If you create an event and enters a phone number as the event name, location, or description, you can tap the phone number on the event details screen to dial it.
  • A new Select All application menu item is available when the cursor is in an editable text field.
  • A new Sync Now application menu item gives you a second way to manually synchronize your calendar accounts (in addition to the Sync Now button in Preferences & Accounts).
  • This release improves Calendar synchronization performance in poor network coverage areas to optimize battery life. It also increases the default interval for synchronizing with online calendar accounts other than Exchange accounts.
  • Editing a Google calendar event on the phone no longer sets an email reminder in Google on the web.
  • This release contains improvements to the visual calendar display, including a clearer indicator of AM and PM and improved current time display.
  • If you set VZW Navigator as the default application for mapping calendar event addresses, tapping the Event Location > Show On Map application menu item in Calendar correctly launches VZW Navigator.

Camera

  • You can record video whenever and wherever inspiration strikes with the new camcorder feature in Camera. After recording a video, you can edit the clip in Videos, upload the video directly to YouTube or Facebook, or send the video by email or multimedia message.

Contacts

  • Global Address Lookup now appears as a contacts search option when you perform a universal search.
  • If you import a Mac Address Book contact, all contact fields display correctly in the Contacts application.
  • If you select the Select All application menu item, text in all contact entry fields is selected.
  • This release improves Contacts synchronization performance in poor network coverage areas to optimize battery life. It also increases the default interval for synchronizing with online contacts accounts other than Exchange accounts.
  • Email addresses for Yahoo! contacts now have descriptive labels such as Home and Work.
  • Phone numbers labeled Other for Yahoo! contacts now appear with the Other label in the Contacts application.

Device Info

  • You now have two partial erase options: Erase Apps & Data, which erases all installed applications and associated data, and Erase USB Drive, which erases files stored on the USB drive.
  • This release includes a new Secure Full Erase option. A secure full erase takes considerably longer than a regular full erase.

Email

  • You can customize calendar notification sounds in Preferences & Accounts. The options include Mute, System Sound, Ringtone, and Vibrate. The Ringtone option includes new notification sounds to give you more customization choices.
  • A new Sort application menu item allows you to sort the message list in any email folder. The sort options are By Date, By Sender, and By Subject. Tapping the currently selected sort option changes the sort from ascending to descending or descending to ascending. Tapping another sort option sorts by that option in ascending order.
  • When you receive a message with one or more attached files, the first file to be fully downloaded opens automatically.
  • You can tap a phone number in the subject line of an email message to dial it, or tap a URL in the subject line to open the web browser to that page.
  • If the message body contains a phone number and you tap and hold the number, a menu appears displaying options to Call, Text, or Add To Contacts (if the number is not already saved in a contact).
  • If the message body contains an email address and you tap and hold the address, a menu appears displaying options to Email or Add To Contacts (if the email address is not already saved in a contact).
  • You can sign in to an email account with a domain of up to six letters (such as .museum or .travel).
  • For POP email accounts, a new preference lets you choose to delete a message on the phone when it is deleted on the server. The default is that messages deleted on the server are not deleted on the phone.
  • If you forward a message that contains attachments, and the attachments are not downloaded, the Email app first downloads the attachments and then forwards the message with the files attached.
  • In an Exchange account, if you delete one or more attachments to a received message and then forward the message, the Email app no longer includes the deleted attachments with the forwarded message.
  • You can successfully move a message from the Trash folder to the Inbox in a Yahoo! account.
  • If you send a message with an attachment from a Hotmail account to another Hotmail account, the message is sent correctly with the attachment.
  • If you send an email that contains periods from an SMTP account, the periods display correctly in the recipient’s email application.
  • If you reply to an email message with a large number of recipients, the reply screen opens scrolled to the message body so you can begin typing the reply text right away.
  • If you search a Global Address List for a contact in the Email app, the app returns the same set of search results as if you were searching in Contacts.
  • Special characters display correctly in the subject line of a received message.
  • If you are working in one application and perform an action that opens the Email application—for example, by tapping an email address in Contacts to compose an email message—when you complete the action, the Email application displays full-screen (not as a card).
  • This release offers improved account setup for Yahoo and Gmail hosted domains.
  • You can select and edit text from a message that you are forwarding.
  • This release includes multiple performance improvements in Email, including improved handling of message replies and forwarded messages and quicker response times to gestures.

Location Services

  • If you turn off the Use GPS and Use Google Services options under the Locate Me Using application menu item, the Locate Me Using menu item remains available.

Memos

  • If a memo contains a phone number and you tap and hold the number, a menu appears displaying options to Call, Text, or Add To Contacts (if the number is not already saved in a contact).
  • If a memo contains an email address and you tap and hold the address, a menu appears displaying options to Email or Add To Contacts (if the email address is not already saved in a contact).

Messaging

  • You can dial a phone number directly from a conversation by tapping Text or the IM account name displayed in the upper-right corner and tapping the phone icon next to the number you want to dial. Phone numbers include the type of number: home, mobile, and so on.
  • You can attach a video to an outgoing multimedia message.
  • You can forward a text or multimedia message via email by tapping and holding the message and tapping Forward Via Email in the menu that appears. The Email application opens in compose view with the message text as the body of the new email message. If the message was a multimedia message, the multimedia message appears in the Subject field of the email, and any attachments from the multimedia message appear as attachments in the email.
  • If a message contains a phone number and you tap and hold the number, a menu appears displaying options to Call, Text, or Add To Contacts (if the number is not already saved in a contact).
  • If a message contains an email address and you tap and hold the address, a menu appears displaying options to Email or Add To Contacts (if the email address is not already saved in a contact).
  • In a conversation, incoming and outgoing messages are labeled with the phone number or IM account used.
  • You can now send a multimedia message over the Verizon Wireless data network when the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Palm mobile hotspot

  • After update 1.4, Palm mobile hotspot is available as an application on the Launcher. You no longer need to download the app from App Catalog, and the app is no longer available from App Catalog. Note that Palm mobile hotspot requires a mobile hotspot data feature (available from Verizon Wireless for a monthly fee) that is separate from your phone data plan.
  • If you turn on Wi-Fi when Palm mobile hotspot is on, Wi-Fi turns on and Palm mobile hotspot turns off.

Phone

  • Multiple sequential calls to and from the same person are now grouped as a single entry in your call history.
  • You can tap the contact photo or icon in a call history entry to display options for that entry, including dialing an alternate number, sending a text message, opening a contact, or adding the number as a contact. The expanded display also includes call details such as call length and phone number type.
  • If you create a conference call from two outgoing calls, you can now end the conference call from a Bluetooth headset, if the headset model supports this feature.
  • If you access the list of countries from the International Dialing preference, you can search the list by entering the first few letters of a country name.
  • If you are on a call with a contact, tapping the contact photo on the active call screen no longer opens the contact entry.

Photos

  • Photos you copy onto the phone now appear correctly rotated in Photos, regardless of their initial rotation.

Screen & Lock

  • New blink notifications (a blinking light in the gesture area) alert you when email, text message, or other notifications arrive. You clear the blink notification by turning the screen on and off or unlocking the screen. The blink notification preference is on by default; you can turn it off in Screen & Lock > Blink Notifications.
  • Screen lock now supports any timeout interval assigned by a corporate Exchange system administrator.

Sounds & Ringtones

  • This release adds new user-selectable notification sounds under Ringtone.

System

  • This release offers better overall performance, including faster loading time for apps and increased battery life across a wider range of user scenarios.
  • A startup card appears when you tap an icon to open an application.
  • Global Address Lookup now appears as a contacts search option when you perform a universal search.
  • If you tap an open contact record in universal search results, the record closes and does not scroll off the screen.
  • If you are playing a game and a phone or calendar notification arrives, the game pauses while the notification is coming up.
  • You can quickly unlock the screen by dragging up from the gesture area across the onscreen lock icon.
  • This release improves the speed of downloading applications and files.
  • The title bar icon indicating a high-speed data network now shows 3G instead of Ev.

Updates

  • If an update becomes available when you are on a call, the update notification displays only after you end the call.

Videos

  • You can upload a recorded video to YouTube or Facebook on the web.
  • Videos you record appear in the Video roll folder.
  • You can edit recorded video. You can also delete recorded video, video copied from a computer, or video received as an attachment to an email message.
  • You can attach a video to an outgoing multimedia message.
  • If you tap the option to share an uploaded video, you have the option to send the link via email, text message, or Facebook.

Web

  • If a web page contains a phone number and you tap and hold the number, a menu appears displaying options to Call, Text, or Add To Contacts (if the number is not already saved in a contact).
  • If a web page contains an email address and you tap and hold the address, a menu appears displaying options to Email or Add To Contacts (if the email address is not already saved in a contact).
  • This release includes support for the Adobe Flash 10.1 Beta plugin. Note that the plugin is a standalone app that will be available in App Catalog.

Wi-Fi

  • A new Sleep Settings application menu item allows you to change a setting so that if Wi-Fi is on and the phone screen turns off, the Wi-Fi feature turns off. By default, if Wi-Fi is on and the screen turns off, the Wi-Fi feature stays on.
  • If you turn on Wi-Fi when Palm mobile hotspot is on, Wi-Fi turns on and Palm mobile hotspot turns off.

Security

This release implements a security fix to the developer portal. It now uses HTTPS to protect all sensitive data. We'd like to thank Andrew King and Michael Siroskey for reporting this issue.

Individuals interested in contacting Palm to report suspected security issues can find more information at palm.com/security .

go verizon !!!

Downloading 1.4 as I type on both our Verizon Pre Plus & Pixi Plus now!! :) Sleep, who needs sleep...

So how is WebOS 1.4 ... Plus?

wow nobody cares
maybe theres none verizon users at pre central

Touch

don't you mean "Douche"?

don't hate our brothers and sisters on other networks. Many of us may not like Vzw. Personally I left them for Sprint specifically for the Pre last summer and I am opleasantly surprised with Sprint. But leave out the hate on other people that found this great site and community. Maybe your jealous over the Plus features? If so, relax, we will get some fun new toys.

I, for one, just installed it.

i when to sleep over to get the pre for sprint but once sprint wasnt really good for ma pre i have to move to a better network soo yupp verizon totally rocks ma killer machine the pre plus

I don't even have verizon and I'm excited again!!! Have fun vz peeps! I love my update!!!

This is great and all, but why must they preinstall Mobile HotSpot!?

So that they know thats an option with Pre and Pixi Plus. And so Verizon can get more money lol

as every updated i like to come up with a clean update soo for me all always is the best way to back up ma files and do the doc.

Dieter....go to sleep...:P

Nobody is commenting cause they are all asleep...lol! it's 2 in the morning in north eastern USA! (Ohio)

money never sleeeps

Ohio is North-Eastern US?

Think again, its more west than east. At least to us North-Easterner's, you're west

finally i was going crazy lol.....

i just did the doc and 3 apps from official catalog that had delete back again with a gray bubble on the right top corner also preware and preload still there why is that. isnt that once you doc everything must have to be delete it or what.

links are borked...

If you prefer to use webOS Doctor, that appears to be available as well.

www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Webos_Doctor_Versions

tks for the tip but i dont get it why doc dont really delete all apps that had delete before.

Some people just prefer to do a clean start.

WEBOS Doctor didn't remove my applications or files either. I can assure you WEBOS Doctor DOES replace the system files so to speak, as I've had to use it to rescue my Pre twice already. A Full Erase takes care of the applications and files, and runs the first use app. Combine the WEBOS Doctor with a Full Erase and your device is factory-new.

what dr did you use?

The one for the Verizon Pre Plus: webosdoctorp101ewwverizonwireless.jar

thank god finally

Woohoo!!! Finally. I thought I was going to get the usual Verizon cold shoulder. Really the only reason im still on Verizon is that they got the Pre (my contract ended the week before... is that a sign or what?!)

Kaaaaaaahhn!!! I mean Belllllll!! *shakes fist*

ugh.

"Revenge is a dish, best served cold. It is very cold in Canada!"

wowo is taking soo long to downloading lol how many mbs is the update

i was at 34st today to pay ma first bill and this lady from vz treatme like a king :) also she was hot she touch my hand lol and she love my pre plus.

yes, about time.......

good thing I happened to check before I was going to sleep!

Glad to see this.

Just installed on my VZ Pre plus and now installing on the wife's Pixi Plus. Video will be great; looking forward to digging into other changes as well. I hope Flash comes soon - I couldn't find any live feeds of the tsunami while I was out and about today....they all were flash!

w00t downloading this now!

landed on O2 germany this morning too!!! Im posting this with 1.4 as of now and it seems faster than ever :O kuddos to palm, O2 and preC ;D

Wow... the miniscule amount of comments for this posting must be a testament to how many ppl use the Pre on Verizon (not very many)... either that or people just gave up and went to bed...

Palm's in even more trouble than I originally thought...

people sleeping or parting lol like me at new york city the big apple never sleep but some does lol me at party at noa queens and updating ma pre plus lol

We just don't boast about it..installed and working great Pre Plus everywhere..lol

Yay! Go Palm! I am downloading now at 3 am in Pennsylvania.

Palm is number one in my book!

Go Palm. Thanks Verizon for bringing out Palm's new phones.

Yay!!! I've only had mine for 3 days so I'm thrilled. Checked for update one last tiime before bed and there it was! Now time for bed and will play with it tomorrow. I love my pre plus more every day.

dammit. bell is screwing us again with their sub par release times.....screw u bell....give us our update already!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even germany has it.......

Hey i just ordered my Pre Plus today cant wait to get it. Everywhere i read about the hotspot it says there is a $40 a month fee. I asked the rep about this today and they assured me there is no fee.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me. by the way this is my first post and am excited to be getting a Pre Plus

Its telling me page not available. I cant believe they would lie to me. She even asked her supervisor. I hope its not hard to install the homebrew version. i will not pay 40 a month for that.

dude go to verizon online and create the plan.3G Mobile Hotspot, their is a fee right next to it. The homebrew stuff is pretty easy, dont say you were tricked. ITS labeled on their website. $40/month

i see what you're saying now. im not saying i was tricked. i did the order over the phone and i was simply told repeatedly there was no charge plain and simple. its my fault for doing it over the phone and not looking into more but its not a big deal.

i have begun reading and downloading required software to install homebrew i just hope 1.4 didnt block anything. thanks for your replies btw

Your VZW have FEE for the hotsopt, scroll to the top of this
review and you will see what the post said!!
GOOD LUCK with your VZW FEE...

sooooo, pretty much everyone, except bell has 1.4 right now.

way to go bell

#1 in customer let down

just installed it. and now for sleep. :-) tomorrow I will have my fun. Tonight, I treat my body to well deserved rest.

I'm a sprint customer.....and say W00T for verizoners yay

i downloaded update now my web browser icon is gone....wtf

@bigwill007

Same thing happened to me..I also experienced other bugs....what you need to do is back up your pictures n files, then do a full erase. Need to do a 1.4 from scratch. From my experience, webos updates are never smooth with an update from a previous version. mFrom scratch took me about an hour because the apps would hang and not install for a while, reset and then they installed....sigh. GL

That's pretty drastic. Always try rebooting first:
square key + sym key + r key (think "r" for reboot)

It's like doing a ctrl-alt-delete on Windows.

I can't get my patches to work. Preware people...why can't I get the Bypass PIN to work?

correction after three restarts it came back....back to being excited.

@ bigwill007
Looks that worked for you...I only tried to restart Twice, guess I was one short lol. Make sure your camera is working, mine was behaving erratic when trying to press the on screen shutter btn.

my screen is black is that part of the update ?? the only thing on is the little light is that normal?

I checked at 11:05 pst and it was there. It took forever to load, but it looks like it was a success. Off to sleep for now. Glad Verizon got the update in Feb too. I hope the poor folks at Bell get it soon.

It takes felt 2 hours to download from O2 Germany.
I hope its good :)

WARNING: iphone spoof bricks the pre. Had "tried" to enable this tweak twice and bricked the phone twice... (DO NOT USE UNTIL iphone spoof HAS BEEN UPDATED)

Thanks for the heads up.

By the way, if I said I bricked my phone, that would mean that I could not recover it with a doctor; it would be absolutely broken. Thus the term 'brick', because that is what the phone turns into, functionally at least. You may have had to doctor your phone, but it was not 'bricked'.

Verizon Preware and Patches users, make sure you read this:

http://forums.precentral.net/2264054-post85.html

-- Rod

Rod -- Not only is the software amazing but the documentation is fantastic.

Got it on Sprint. DL now!

Dude!!! The webOS 1.4 is freakin' awesome!!! I feel like a brand new MAN!!! Wooohoooo! Verizon Rocks!!!

I am on Sprint. I left Verizon after 10 years to get the Pre on launch day (June 6, 2009).

I have no remorse/regrets. The Sprint network has been surprisingly good for me (NYC and Boston). If I want to roam free on Verizon's voice network I have a patch that let's me switch over at will.

That said, I am sincerely still very happy to see my fellow Pre brethren on VZW getting some WebOS 1.4 love!

Now maybe Adobe will release the Flash 10.1 beta in both of our catalogs. Palm is ready now.

Are you listening Adobe?

downloaded and updated on Pre Plus, almost done doing the same on wife's Pixi Plus.

Looks cool so far, but double typing bug is not gone. *hurm*

The double typing on the Pre Plus seemed to have been the keyboard, so to resolve this, you will need to shut the phone down, and depress all of the keys about 10x each, then zip over them, like you would keys on a piano, then boot up your phone..and it should be resolved. If not, then try again. It seems as though the keys are very stiff. It worked well on my Pre Plus.....not sure about the Pixi. :-)

Cheers!

+1. The same technique fixed the double typing issue here.

No luck for me on the KB issue.

However, reading other forums etc, I keep hearing it's a software issue. The Verizon technician I spoke to on the phone and the representative at the store all agree, it's software related. However I know it's a different keyboard so who knows?

Double keys I can explain, but dropped characters, no. If I type with more time b e t w e e n i n d i v d u a l c h a r a c t e r s, they all come out fine, no matter how much pressure I use.

Typing g really fast 20 times gets

ggggg g gg g gggg gggggg

typing g 20 times really slow gets

gggggggggggggggggggg

*Shrug*

Most patches intact, and working fine :) No other complaints so far :)

ah snap is right.. Seems my PixiPlus is, (shall I say it?) Snappier? Thanks Palm for the upgrade...and 2 snaps up and in a "Z" formation!

Downloading right now.

I'm sure the reason there aren't tooo many comments yet is bc all we Verizon users are still tired from staying uup the nigt before waiting for thee update that didn't land. :P

I didn't have high hopees that it would fix the double typing bug but I was still keeping my fingers crossed.

As you can see, it's a big problem with a lot of these Pre Plussses. :P When I return my phone for an exchange, I'll have to do the update all over again but it will be nice and fresh.

Update is more than half done in ten minutes. Yay!

Don't turn in your phone until you've done the power off key-punching that's been mentioned here (mentioned in a post above). It's likely to be just a break-in isssue.

Power down then press as many keys as you can with your thumb, running over the whole keyboard, then press each key 15 times. This worked for me and many others. The g and y keys had been sticking here.

"Unpacking"

only 25% moree to go!

Started update 18 minutes ago.

"Validating..."

30 min mark

"Install now"

It's been sitting at this screen for five minutes now and nothing has changed.

Just kidding...

it's rebooted and now I'm waiting AGAIN. :P

Wow, you know what they say here about "a watched pot never boils".....so true!

75% through the restart

39 minute mark

Wake up Verizon users!!!!!!!!!

Santa came!!!!!

I hear you on that! Just woke up & hit refresh and WOW! I stayed up until 1am EST and nothin, no news, so I just went to bed. Looks like the little additional patience paid off for some folks! Downloading now!

C'mon Spinning Restart Circle.....hurry up!

Ooooooh "palm" logo

(no pulsating, btw)

Yeah yeah...I know it's a "palm"...get on with it. :P

50 min mark

NOW it's pulsating. :)

FINALLY!

Yay!!!!!!

55 minute mark. Not too bad. Windows takes way longer to install. :)

Now to Patch and restart several times (from what some are saying).

did you install over wifi - or over the network?

That's a good question. Wifi was connected, so I'd assume it was over wifi.

A lot of my patches were seemingly intact still. My 4 x 4 Launcher icons were not there, but the multiple pages were still intact and several others patches, too.

Installing all the updated patches now. Pretty time consuming, but major kudos to everyone that contributed to the AUPT work.

It would be a major PITA to install all of them manually! :)

My wife won't let me update her Pixi. She said, "It will do it when it's ready".

Sigh.

What would you estimate total time from start - to actaully being able to use your phone was?

It was about 55 minutes start to finish.

The hardest wait was after it restarted.

The patching is taking a lot of time. I had a bunch. :)

Oh yea.... this is what I was waiting for.... verizon was pissing me off a bit, but 24hrs is not that bad.... Good Job guys...

Yeah 24 hours isn't bad at all.

For years I was used to Palm updating one carrier months before another, I figured it would be a while before Verizon got it.

Now I guess Canada is next?

Excellent update, Palm! Looking forward to 1.5 or 2.0...

Thanks a lot bell %$*&? !! i guess they got too much going on with they shameless partnership with samsung and both have both hands deep in the olympics sponsorship... &%*$ them still... hate being the last

Took about 1 hr from beginning to end. I didn't have any issues at all. Response time seems better, transitions smoother, and video seems nice. NICE. Hope remaining carriers get it very soon but I'm happy Europe finally got the update in a timely fashion. Good that Verizon didn't drag their feet on this update. Bodes well for future updates.

the worst update EVER.........no tether.....no homebrew installs no regular aplications permit....no messenger plugins NOTHING working whit this update IT's crap

I AM SOOO DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!
As a sprint user I have been using 1.4 for a day now and I must say that it is NOT faster AT ALL. The animations just soothes you as you still WAIT for apps to open and BASIC content to appear. AND let's not even talk about battery drain, I think it actually maybe worse. The video capture and new call log are great but now my Pre finally has the functionality that my Treo had and I'm supposed to be jumping for joy????? I am very disappointed in Palm and if they go under after this I wouldn't even care anymore and I've been riding hard with Palm since the Palm III.

And I dont even want to get into the fact that myTether doesnt seem to work with 1.4.

C'mon now, comparing the video capture on the Treo with the video capture on the Pre is like comparing a black and white TV with mono sound to a 3D-HD movie in 5.1 surround sound.

Plus, you couldn't share a darn thing on the Treo. Facebook and YouTube didn't exist. Video over MMS -- good luck with that. Video editing? Non-existent.

Just sayin'

the worst update EVER.........no tether.....no homebrew installs no regular aplications permit....no messenger plugins NOTHING working whit this update IT's crap

no problems here. Great update, imo.

thanks palm! (and homebrew/webos-internal community)

you were expecting Palms webOS update to improve homebrew options? That's has to be a joke Stop trolling. The changelog has been out for days so why act surprised...

Way to go Bell. Every other Pre user has the update but the Canadians. Maybe we should land a claim at the competition bureau or something...

Guys, Palm has to stagger the release across carriers and within carriers (e.g., 100K users at a time).

If they didn't do this and there was a major issue the carrier call centers and Palm's call centers would get SLAMMED. You'd never be able to get through. Plus they don't have enough capacity on their servers to handle all the simultaneous download requests. You'd have interrupted and/or botched installs all over the place.

So if you were Palm, in what order would you do the releases?

I would do a few small roll-outs first to work out the kinks.
Then I would go to my launch partner
Then I would go from the carriers with the largest user base to the smallest.

Sounds familiar, no?

Sorry... double post

sorry triple post (I don't know why... I only saved it once...)

Why do we ALWAYS have to wait for the updates on Bell? Who is ultimately responsible for the delays? Is it Bell, with their usual "if it doesn't give us more money we don't give a sh!t" customer support? Or is it Palm, that takes their sweet ass time putting it over the air?

If it's Palm, it really pisses me off... ...The same way we are still waiting for the f..king paid apps... Which, to me, doesn't make sense... Sure it's different taxes etc... But Palm should of set that up within days... Not months...

I'm tired of being treated like a second rate customer because I'm not in the states...

I wonder if Rubinstein even knows that they are selling Pre in Canada! With the customer support they have it's like they are selling potatoes.
It seems Apple can manage updates at once for the entire planet... maybe Palm should learn from them!

Do you get adobe flash video yet or are we still waiting for that? I am little confused on that one?

Just installed, working great.
gogo Palm!
gogo Flash!

I am on verizon and downloaded it now. I am a little confused a about the flash though? Guess I will see it once its done. Makes me happy now though I got my palm pre plus instead of the droid :O)

Next June there is new 4G phone it will be release, faster more memory, bigger screen.
NOW who`s bought the Palm Pre plus they have to pay $350 for
ETF. But Sprint if the want to change to other handset next
Summer they can Without any ETF or extra fee.
I guess thats make a big different, so love your good VZW.
High monthly FEE
High ETF FEE
Locked in for life 2 years with the same handset.
and VZW lough all the way to the bank because of you ppl.

What is with all of this VZW bashing I see all the time. Are you really that upset that a better version of your phone came out? Seems a bit childish to say all this negative stuff about VZW and all the subscribers. I didn't join this sight to hear a bunch of people crying about what someone else has. You will get your newer phone in june. Enjoy it. 6 months later an updated version of that will come out for verizon. If you've been with vzw for so long you will get an early upgrade after only one year. That's how I got my pre plus and how I will get my next phone. Lets grow up and concentrate on keeping palm alive instead of carrier bashing everyone.

well I wonder if palm likes breaking our patches aupt really screwed everything up so i dk I'm disapointed in 1.4 we need a fix for hotspot

how did AUPT screw everything up? It worked w/o a hitch for me...

PS i'm sure Palm was required by sprint to break mobile hotspot

i know a few pple at Bell,, its not palm its bell.. even the local bell store pple say the same bloody thing,, its BELL corp.. that takes their sweet ass time rolling out the updates..

palm is quick. i see they fixed the MMS over wifi issue. good job palm.

is there a tether homebrew option available for Verizon? What about Mobile Hotspot?

I installed 1.4 this morning on my pre plus and had to update my patches per the following link (Thanks Rod for the heads up!). Everything works great and email runs faster. I have also noticed an improvement in battery drain - I have had the Pre Plus off of the charger for an hour and it still shows 98% (before I could drain about 7% an hour) - I did select the wifi sleep setting

I agree with not-yet-pre.... I'm on Verizon, and I uninstalled patches and Preware, updated my Pre with 1.4, then reinstalled patches. All my Homebrew apps are still working fine, and the reinstalled patches are working fine. I had absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I had to crack up at the people claiming that there must not be any Verizon users on the forum because nobody had posted in the first 3 hours after the update was available. Perhaps the truth is that many Pre users (on all networks) actually have lives that involve more complex itineraries than just keeping our phones absolutely current. That said, I'm playing with my phone to make sure it's absolutely current, so I'm on the fence about which camp I'm in!!!

Again, I am with you. I too am on VZW, and have had no problems whatsoever, other than the pre-existing (pardon the pun) Keyboard isssue whre we have dropd and dduuppllicate characters. lol

I did and oops, and even un and reinstalled my patches AFTER the update. It still works :)

I'm also a Verizon Pre+ owner and the 1.4 update went off without a hitch! I reinstalled the few Preware apps I had and it's doing great!

As for battery drain, it's still at 100% after being off the charger for about 45 minutes! Total improvement!

F*CK BELL I hate them sooo much. Hey Palm if you are reading this switch CARRIERS, I'll switch with you in a heartbeat. Bell users stop complaining on this forum and start complaining at BELL I keep calling and emailing them about how we at bell are being treated like sh*t. Now we're third class behind the Europeans, WOW.

START CALLING BELL AND COMPLAINNNN damn it.

I intalled it this morning I lov it. The phone feels faster somebody mentioned that scrolling was faster I consider it's not, but aside from that, it is a extremely nice and solid update. Really good job Palm keep them coming. I hope to see Flash beta in catalogue soon.

i return to 1.3.5

i'ts no big deal

YIPEEEE!!!! Finally can get down to homebrewing!! and PATCHES!!! was holding off till 1.4 came, so that i didnt have to update and shit..

can you buy a verizon palm pre and webs os it to a sprint 1.4?

My VZW Pre Plus updated without a problem so far, other than the fact that one silly little ap no longer works: "Teen Repellent". I'm not at all concerned about that.

I can't wait to try all the new features. I don't have any preware / patches. All those years of "fixing" my Palm OS software issues wore me out. No more "complexity" for me. I got the Palm Pre Plus because it's VERY USER FRIENDLY. Otherwise I would have purchased a DROID.

My guess is that if you tether using a "patch", VZW can tell and may charge you "per MB" for "tethering" or "mobile hotspot" use.

Are you a teenager? Could you hear it before? How do you know it's not working? lol.

Seriously, for now, go here for the time being:

http://www.freemosquitoringtones.org/

you can make them ringtones or just play them with the music player. As simple as Aura is, you could prolly even write your own repelling device if you wanted.

updated 6 hours ago. went perfectly, no issues what so ever. Tried everything i've ever done on this pre plus before and everything works same or better. Good job on this patch palm and verizon. Just saw that the doctor is in so downloading now. What the word on an update for webos quick install?

has anyone just waited til the webos 1.4 downloaded to the phone automatically? update said it would do it over the next few days by itself and notify me when done

Those were the longest 24 hours of my life..maybe (;

I got it first thing this morning (7 Houston TX time). Once I updated my few patches everything was back to normal.

Received an update notice from Verizon today and installed it. The install was seamless and worked perfectly. Tested the new app launcher...it appears to be starting apps up faster. I like the new look when apps are launched, seems more polished. The phone app seems to be more refined as well. it now allows the ability to select different number to call for a contact by selecting the contact icon on the right in the call history...
Overall looks good so far...

Got update on my Pre+ today didn't follow instructions haha installed update with theme and patches ect..

i just doctored with the new 1.4 webosdoctor and it came out great except i had to install all the home brew stuff again which is no biggy.

things seem to be doing ok MMS improvements on UI look good, the only thing i don't like is now it takes at least a second for the screen to go on and off using the power button.

other then that everything is pretty good ive reinstalled almost all patches and theme and its running fine.

I guess Palm screwed over Canada again. But at least we got the last laugh by beating those pesky Americans in hockey today!!!

this is great news I own Palm Pre from Sprint and I got my update a day ago and today my girlfriend singed a contract with the big Red and I convinced her to take Palm Pixi Plus and she got it! :) before she was using all blackberries and was reluctant to try out something new as she thought that blackberry was the best out there but I showed her palm pre and then pixi and as stubborn as she is she gave it a shot and was amazed at the software and just the whole WebOS itself. :) I'm very happy with her decision as I myself enjoy this os so much I would not want to see it go away! Palm just gained another good customer :)

ees taking forevver, mang

it downloads, says it's unpacking and then goes back to downloading. WTF

I am seeing a big improvement in battery life. I think the wifi change to sleep when the phone sleeps is a significant change.

I am a verizon user and I DL'ed the new update last night. I was soexcited I had been waiting for it for weeks. I have not had a chance to go through all the changes as i DL'ed it kinda late, but I did messaround with the video option and it was cool as heck!! I'm at work now, but can't waitill I get off to truley go over all the changes. AND YES there are Verizon users on here!! I am one of them! :-)

Installed, just too bad that now that I can record video I CAN'T FRIGGAN SEND TO ANYONE WITHOUT EVERYONE TELLING ME THEY CANT VIEW IT!!!!!! Even a 4 second video is messed up on there end. Palm is a bunch a friggan monkey's that don't test ANYTHING before release I swear!!! *tosses hands in the air*

Oh and its not just me either. Alot are having problems with MMS and Video's

app catalog app # 1600 will be flash. Just a guess don't get nuts

I tried sending videos via MMS and the format is MP4 people.
If I am not mistaken most phones use 3g2, 3gp, etc I believe.
So most older phones and smartphones will not play in this format. Palm should have giving us a choice of formats but guess not since from my experience the webOS video player app can mainly play mp4's...o well jus send via email, facebook, etc.

very frustrating that palm pre does not backup your call logs and text messages.

just hate the fact that everytime palm sends an OTA update, there will be alot of problems.

do you know if it permits Free video phone calls?
