webOS 2.0 spotted on Telcel Pre in Mexico 33

by Dieter Bohn Mon, 03 Jan 2011 12:33 pm EST

PoderPDA has the head-tiltingly exciting video above of webOS 2.0 running on a Palm Pre from the Telcel network in Mexico. Those phones have been languishing on webOS 1.4, meaning they haven't had access to the slew of PDK apps from indie developers.

Things seem to be working fairly well except that paid apps aren't showing up in the Catalog and, most distressingly, users are unable to log into existing Palm Profiles. So for now the best advice is to tilt your head to the right, watch the above video, and hope that Telcel will make with the 2.0 update sooner rather than later.

Maybe this Palm present to Mexico for making them wait soooo long for paid apps in their catalog.. *sigh*

I this waiting is becoming such an agonizing pain that I feel like I'm in one for those "Saw" Movies :(

Looking forward to 2.0 on my ATT Pre.

But, watching that 3x4 icon grid with grey background made me shutter. I've become so accustomed to the 5x5 grid with auto-hiding launch bar and glass background that I thought everone used it. Thanks Preware and all the Homebrew devs.

Oh great, can I get a translator over here? Oh and I agree I've been using the glass launcher with auto hide as well. It's much cleaner looking I think.

He said everything is working including sound, wifi (00:16 - 00:20). But he also states that it was more difficult because he had to install everything separately, programs, drivers, etc. (00:22 - 00:29). He mentioned the browser has flash and works fine and that there are many programs including QuickOffice and VPN.

More palm goodies everywhere but in the US. This year feels an awful like last year.

I guess I just don't understand how the gadget industry works. What's the purpose of an American company releasing their newest product everywhere EXCEPT America?

Damn you Palm... Damn you.
You get me addicted to your amazing Operating system but you give me crappy hardware that I've had for 18 months, it's falling apart and you give me no new hardware to switch to.

Just when I'm trying to convince myself to switch to Android because their hardware is awesome, you release an update to your kickass OS to other parts of the world before releasing it as an update to the original palm pre.

Just when i'm ready to jump ship to the EVO, I see webos 2.0 and now I continue waiting for new hardware (don't mention the pre2 because it's already outdated), while my phone is twisting apart and only lasts for about 6 hours without charging.

With CES coming up i have the feeling you won't even show us a new super phone. So you continue to make me wait.

Is this some type of psychology test? "Oh lets release an awesome OS on shitty hardware then make everyone wait over 2 years for awesome hardware"
Well AHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you suck!
Damn you!

Cool story bro.

Tell it again.

toy story bro

I can confirm that works better than expected despite the fact that probably you'll need to create a new profile.

Flash works, system is faster than before, but Uberkernel is not available right now. :(

Sometimes systems crashes but reboots quite fast.

Stacks is awesome, so as just type the new launcher organizer rocks btw!

I'll upload a video later for reference...

Once uberkernel works... the phone will fly!

And for those wondering... the baterry has improved... a lot in my Pre.

Oh very important... This WASN'T released by Palm/Telcel, miltonmiguel performed some magic!

Bring on the new hardware!!

Are you kidding me, why even waste our time with a video that showes us nothing with WebOS 2.0 and in spanish to add further insult to injury. In case yall haven't HP won't be at CES, so keep on holding your breath. I think they are waiting until they lose every last customer to buy a Pre before they announce anything new. The Pre and it's inception was awful and Hp wants to clear that stench before launching a capable webOS device! Can you blame them? I mean the Pre truly sucks, software aside.

Just wait until the next update comes out. WebOS 2.0 and 2.0.1 are way too buggy! Sometimes I wish that I could use webOS 1.4.5 again....

- sent from my Palm Prē2 -

Maybe its in the audio, but how did this guy get 2.NO?

He modified WebOS Doctor to boot on a regular GSM Pre, he had been trying for the last weeks and finally made it!

From the vid, this does not sound like a Palm release. It sounds more like the guy hacked it on.

You are right, is not an official release.

VPN is the system but I haven't tried yet-

Quickoffice works very well

Is this available as an OTA update on Telcel?

Telcel users don't even have 1.4.5 yet. They'll never see 2.0.

Palm and sprint better have something new out very soon. This Fing ridiculous. And will leave both of them and never look back, the only way these companies ever feel it. I can not and will support a company for there lack of support or innovation.

I noticed that it is the version of Pre on Sprint. I also noticed for the first time EVER from the video how amazingly smooth it runs at stock. I mean damn. How is it that we had to wait this long to see webos 2.0 on a Pre similar to sprint? Why did we need to wait for some dude in mexico to hack it?

Dont get me wrong, im not bitter. I already bought the evo on christmas eve and im rocking it every day with no remorse of tossing my Pre against the wall. Im tired of waiting for a super pre and i need new gadget fixes every year.

I just hope Palm and HP arent planning on releasing their stuff in june again cause it will be the worst waste of $1.2 billion ever.

......well. i guess the government does worse on a daily basis, but my point is sound.:-)

forget telcel what about us on sprint damn crackers taken there good old time with things love my pre and never leave it till I need to replace it then I'll love another one but never leave it :D

ces I'm hoping for the drop of the verizon pre 2 and 2.0 to carriers along with a phone and tablet

2.0!!!!!!

sshaka say:

Well I've installed that excellent ROM on my Palm Pre (1!?) and I can tell you that works great for me!!!

Telcel from Mexico has no interest whatsoever in their customers........only WebOS 1.4.0!!! Personally I think they're very neglected about their customers and about the Palm Pre itself!!!

Thanks to people involved in Mexico´s PoderPDA, we have an almost perfect ROM of WebOS 2.0 for Palm Pre 1!!! Only little details about app catalog and other stuff!!!

sshaka says:

Really, really........Telcel sucks!!!

I think that the guys of Telcel never being updated the WebOS.........because they suck!!!

yes, i'm posting this From my pre - with webOS 2.0 can't wait for internalz and uberkernel to update so they can be installed on 2.0

so far i have lots of apps and games installed (facebook, agile messenger, tweed, need 4 speed, goal.com, presabre, soundboards, etc) and they all run just fine. And yes, flash is on the browser, i even played farmville and tactics arena online and videos from a certain tube page (hint: wasn't youtube)

thanks a lot miltonmiguel (who is not a telcel Or palm employee btw)

Looks to me like he's running a leaked copy of a webOS 2.0 developer ROM. All the "problems" that are mentioned are in there because it's a dev rom, ie have to create a new profile as it's beta software and could corrupt the current profile.

If someone did get hold of such a thing, I wouldn't recommend installing it on your personal device. There's always the chance something bad could happen (and you loose all your paid apps).

Telcel has no interest on their customers. They only want to sell phones, no matter how stupid or shitty they are.

The palm pre is only one phone on their product base, and for us palm enthusiasts, people like this dude means the only hope to upgrade. I have 1.4.5 running on mine, but also was a hacked one from these same guys.

..it's good to know spanish :3

From translations..this is what i gather.
a. they obtained the ROM either via an existing Pre 2, or those available. We know we can unzip it, but as usual based on earlier discussions, there were concerns of 'bricking the pre'

Issues.
1. cannot log into existing profile. I think this is a Palm issue. Remember this problem occurs only for so called upgrades. If you use a stock 2.0 phone no issues.? or is this one possible reason why the upgrade is delayed from HP side?
This is not a deal breaker.

Guarantee : I think for techies..this is the least of the issues..

Great to know at least it's available for 'testing'

Glad I know spanish. It's really helpful when people post videos about software hacks in another language, lol.
