webOS 2.1 coming to a Verizon Pre 2 near you 56
The above alert might not have arrived for many Pre 2 users yet, but Verizon Wireless has confirmed in four different ways that an OTA (over-the-air) update for the Pre 2 to webOS version 2.1 (build 124) is on the way very soon. In our forums, etphoto tells us about his recent experience with a Verizon support rep who told him about the pending update, and he was quickly followed by our awesome community members who found more proof that the update was incoming. On Twitter, @VZWSupport said that the update actually started pushing through the system on the 9th of August, and on Verizon's Support Website they even provide instructions on how to perform the upgrade yourself once it's available for you (though, do we really need instructions on how to tap a button?).
It's been a long wait for Pre 2 owners in this quest to get webOS 2.1, and many of you have probably already meta-doctored the update through methods provided by our homebrew community. For everyone else, though, that wait is finally coming to an end and the OTA update should be arriving soon. Start hitting those refresh buttons, people!

Nooooo!!!!!! Sprint was 1st with the OTA updates. And now nothing. Can I deal with Verizon as a carrier???
Neither was Verizon.
Rogers and Unlocked had this update for the longest time.
AT&T didn't need updates because the only phone that will run, the Veer, was already on 2.1 at launch.
O2 and Vodafone released 2.1 for the Pre Plus in Europe, and it DOES work well, so this nonsense that it doesn't work also needs to go. AT&T and Verizon are the reason the Pre Plus doesn't have it here.
what about sprint frankenpre2's ?
I thought FrankenPre 2's were already able to run 2.1 via meta-doctor? I don't think the VZW 2.1 doctor (when released) would really add anything for a FrankenPre2.
i get mixed answers to this question....can we get an honest answer....how would verizon OTA a sprintified pre2...????????????
some say if your on Wifi you will get a OTA message...some say you will not...???

I feel like more people own Franken-Pre2's than they do actual Verizon Pre 2's...
I'm hoping then that when the verizon pre2 2.1 doctor is released, we'll get a new meta-doctor to integrate the latest pre+ 2.1 doctor with the latest verizon 2.1 bits.
If you're referring to Skype integration and the carrier-specific apps, a new meta-doctor script has been available for about a week or two now that brings those things along.
I went to my local Verizon store on Saturday, looked around, then asked how sales of the Pre2 were going. Guy said they don't even carry them anymore. I asked him what would happen if I needed to immediately replace my Pre+, he said they would get me a Pixi.

Remember when the Verizon Pre was supposed to ramp up the popularity of webOS? Now, we are relegated to this.

Couldn't HP throw us a bone and release an update? Surely some 2.1 features would have to be excluded due to hardware limits. But most of the features would have no problem running on a Sprint Pre-

With a heavy heart, I think i've resigned myself to going with an Android. My Pre- isn't quite dead yet, it's holding on strong actually, but I'm tired of lag and sluggishness. I'm tired of my friends laughing at me. Telling me to cut my losses and get an iPhone for christs sake.
Every techie I know laughs at my devotion to the Os. I don't think I can take much more. It doesn't matter if it was Sprint or HP who abandoned us. It's time that we just accepted that We are abandoned.
Is this real? Turned out to be a flop the last time it was announced. Still no update available on my VZW Pre 2.
Last time there were isolated instances of people getting the update but no word from VZ. This time VZ led with a post on Twitter even though there are no reports of the update being received yet.
I will believe it when I see it on MY phone... anything else is just rumors
EDIT: I got it overnight. I can confirm that 2.1 has rolled out to my VZW Pre2 with Voicedial, Exhibition mode and new HP bootup logo, have not had much time to play with it but feels like it's moving faster and app loading time is reduced, so far I am pleased
Checking for updates.... nothing here yet either.
I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing this happen any time soon. My call to VZW tech support tells me that the release "that was pushing through the system" on August 9 was FROM Palm to VZW and not OTA to users. The release from VZW is still TBD, and we all know what that means. ZZzzzz. So now we can wait......for VZW tech team to test to see what additional issues are going to be added to their support resources. Oh where, oh where is my Pre 3 right now? Just saying.
is this just a coordinated effort to make us all look at our phones?
I'm also tired of trying out the "new features of webOS 2.0.1...
I still love this phone though.

Downloaded and installed in Wisconsin... and Preware still thinks it is 2.0.1, and no patches will install now. This with Device Info showing 2.1.0. Dang it....
App Catalog and several apps promptly updated themselves, so does seem confined to Preware.
Also, reboot is much quicker. Too soon to tell other changes. But I need my patches!
Downloaded and installed in New Jersey earlier this morning but since then, when I try to open an actual e-mail it opens with only the name of the sender and the subject showing but the body of the e-mail will not. This is happening with my Google and AOL e-mail accounts, can someone help me out?

A friend downloaded in Philly this morning...I have no further update yet.
Downloading in DC. Must admit Verizon had me worried taking such a long time to roll this one out. Thought the Pre2 was forgotten! Looking forward to more features and less glitches. I love webOS. My loyalty now depends on the support webOS receives. C'mon HP!
just downloaded and installed the update. the phone does seem faster now... but i am upset that everything is being changed from the name Palm to HP on the phone... the app catalog just updated as well. the voice dial seems simple, but with "Just type" its already super simple to pull up a name... also, i don't know if is just a coincidence, but i'm able to pause and resume songs on my pandora app without having to exit out and restart it. my only concern now is that i may get commercials on Pandora now. i get emails from pandora saying to upgrade to avoid commercials, but i've never heard one yet on my Pre2. anyone else? has anyone seen a list of what the new update is suppose to fix?

It's true!!! It's here! I'm on a VZW Pre-2 in the Washington, DC, area (Northern Virginia) and just started download. I am a much happier camper now. NEXT: download all those 2.1-dependent patches and apps I've been frustrated over since the day I got the phone.

Successfully doctored to 2.1.0 build 124 from build 108.
Just to make sure, correct process is to uninstall patches and preware before applying, right? Sounds like some have applied the update without an uninstall, how is that working out?
