webOS 2.2.5 and 3.0.6 caught in testing logs

After HP announced that webOS would be going open source way back in December we honestly thought we would never see another webOS update until the planned September release of Open webOS 1.0. Then, to our surprise, webOS 2.2.4 and 3.0.5 said hello to the world. It wasn't much of an update for Pre3 owners, but Pre 2 users finally received Bluetooth messaging support and Skype voice calling to add to their device's capabilities. Meanwhile the TouchPad gained faster view switching in calendar, IM presence indicators in Email, support for HTTP video streaming, an easy on/off toggle for auto-correct, the ability to insert a period when double-tapping the space bar, and a fistful of bug fixes. Sadly the Veer was still left in the cold and disappointed many owners longing for some Touch-to-Share action.

So we revised our expectations, 2.2.4 and 3.0.5 to be the last updates before Open webOS hits and we maybe see something new pushed over-the-air from HP. Leave it to some Metrix logs to prove us wrong. Our very own Arthur Thornton, of Sparrow and Voice Memos fame, decided to check his logs since he had neglected to do so for a while. And what did he find while checking those logs? Why, four devices using webOS 2.2.5 accessed Voice Memos, two of which turned out to be Pre3s (the other two are unknown at this point). Curiosity piqued, Arthur checked his Metrix logs for Sparrow, discovering that at least one device running webOS 3.0.6 has used the app. Interesting, no?

We've heard nothing from HP to indicate that webOS 2.2.5 or 3.0.6 would ever be coming, but that they're showing up in app logs - even relatively new apps like Sparrow, has us hopeful that they might see a release soon. webOS smartphones and TouchPad are decent with their current OS versions, but we wouldn't say no to the usual bug fixes and speed and battery improvements that are par for the course for a x.x.1 update. And we're sure Veer owners wouldn't mind having Touch-to-Share enabled nearly a year after the phone was released. So keep your fingers crossed webOS faithful, there might be at least one more update to be had from our beloved devices before Open webOS is upon us!

That would be great! My TouchPad and Pre3 are ready for whatever HP may throw our way!

Fixed wireless stack in the Pre 3... please bring it on! :)

Oh good, another new update for Verizon to not give my Pre2. :(

There's no chance they'll ever push OWOS 1.0. :(

Yep, good news. My touchpad will take the update and my Pre+ will take whatever tidbits webOS-Internals can gleen from 2.2.5.

LONG WILL LIVE webOS!!!
That would be so awesome! It has got to be available for the Veer! I've been reading and trying to update mine with some great developers of this grand community methods, but I'm no techie all contrary I'm a noobie! So this would be excellent to have OTA on my much needed_but_still_MIGHTY HP VEER.
Please keep us posted with any update on this.

webOS is for tablets only. like android honeycomb. So the Veer will most likely get 2.2.5 :)

"While I can't forgive you for what [you have] done.
You have my thanks. For standing by [webOS] until the end."

(^That's more fitting at the end (if it comes)
but it fits here too)

Is that a Micheal Jackson still alive photo!? No, just joking... I almost see my self like that but with a little bit of more nose!

I can confirm. I found a 2.2.5 in my logs too...

I hope "Send Via Bluetooth" function is on this release.

I'd rather they fix what they broke in bluetooth than add more features.

I created a thread for discussing this...http://forums.webosnation.com/hp-touchpad/314433-webos-3-0-6-coming-soon.html

I can't wait for more bug fixes.

Looks like they weren't supposed to reveal the existence of those internal builds, but a few people decided to download apps anyways.

Because if one person has it, more than one person has it.

I only hope PDK GPS problem near greenwich is fixed.

Oh, and the occasionnal reboots I'm experiencing too...

Is it possible that these records could of been spoofed with Impostah?

Or by modifying the SDK. But people usually only get the bright idea to do that after we've posted a story like this.

You just have to make a few web requests. And this isn't the first "news" like this.
I guess I'd be on the frontpage too if I add webOS 4.0 to someone's logs, right? :P

If it comes, and it fixes the seriously broken bluetooth in 2.2.4, and the broken a2dp profile in 3.0.5, I'll be happy. These are really basic pieces of a phone and tablet, and to have them be half baked and regressed like this is ridiculous.

Nobody cares about the veer. It was the stupidest idea Jon ruby had. That's probably why it isn't getting any updates.

I like mine! It needs some software bug fix and more apps. I did not buy it to browse the web...
It fits in my pocket and all the girls want to touch it :)

So, acceleromter fix for Pre 3 (I hope!) - love my games, but so many are unplayable because of this. Also, clock has an alrm bug that needs fixing (sometimes the list of alarms dissapear, requiring a reboot). Anyway, if there really is an update, it will be warmly recieved. Hoorah!

My veer has the same alarm issue! if I snooze and after disable the alarm, I can see in the logging screen (my phone is password protected) a notification saying the phone alarm will start in 10 minutes. But I know it won't. The notification is not updated correctly when the phone is in loging window.

One of my Touchpad lost all the email in the inbox and all the pictures in the photo album every day. After reboot everything is fine.

One of the most common WebOS phones is the Pre-2 on Verizon. It remains locked to 2.1.0. How can we get Verizon to release the updates?

Please let there be a fix for media indexing! I have tried everything and still can't access all my media.

this is great news......

p.s. Still waiting for 3D porn :-P

An update for the Veer would be great, i still have mine laying around. The question is, if they ever pushed out an update, would it have to go through ATT or would it just be pushed since it's considered EOL?

Sigh, should I still hope for a webOS phone with decent specs to come out when the next release of webOS comes out? :-/

I actually checked eBay for Pre3s just to see and if I were on AT&T or T-Mobile I might've considered picking it up. I mean my SGSII is fantastic, but it's no webOS. Though I might feel differently after I get ICS.

I think that's another huge hurdle webOS has to go through. I mean besides the obvious

1) They have no present day hardware.
2) Barely any 3rd party publishers have any desire to release stuff on webOS.
3) It's still buggy.
4) Still a terrible resource hog with inconsistent performance

and

5) Android is improving RAPIDLY. Meaning by Jelly Bean it might do everything webOS excels at even better and do a whole lot webOS doesn't do. :-/

just a thought, the Open Source roadmap has nothing in the may column. Also, as they are testing apps, it could be close to completion.

Please let them remove the regional locks from app store! I'll take any bugs but it's utterly stupid not being able to buy any apps for the phone.
