webOS apps surpass 55 million downloads 22
A quick look at our webOS Apps Gallery reveals a nice number: if you add up all the downloads from the App Catalog, Beta, Web Distributed, and Homebrew apps, you'll find that webOS users have downloaded apps more than 55 million times and if you include patches and downloads from other repositories that number is surely much higher. That number likely includes upgrade downloads as well as new downloads.
While we still don't know how many Palm Pre and Pixi phones have been sold to put that number in context, if we had to guess we'd say that number is still relatively small - making the 55 million download count look fairly decent proportionately.
How many webOS apps have you downloaded? Poll after the break!

I got about 30 or more from the app catalog. Most was free... I got like 15 homebrew apps.
I wonder how many of them were deleted right after downloading
LOL, yeah, i would LOVE to see that statistic!
considering those unfortunate enough to buy a brighthouse labs app, i'd say quite a few.
Got a pre plus less than a week back, 3 paid apps (love them), few deleted apps from app catalog, 3-4 homebrew apps (love them) and like 20 patches or tweaks.
Well... If we just go based on Preware:
Apps (AC/HB): 112
Patches: 87
Other: 15
I have deleted a couple that I tried from the App Catalog as well.
As for actual paid Apps that I find worthwhile:
Paratrooper - $1
WSOP - $1
Deer Hunter - $1
Settlers - Full
Let's Golf - Full
Paid but wasted money:
Real Tennis - $1
Hero of Sparta - $1
Can't wait to see things further develop.
Hopefully the WebOS tablet will come out and I can transfer/download my paid programs to it.
Would be nice to play Settlers on a large screen.
I've had my pre since December. The last time I counted I was surprised to find 75 apps on my phone, all free. Since then I've downloaded more, and even some apps that were on sale for 99c.
I have 113 apps from the App Catalog. All but two or three were free. I don't have any homebrew and have downloaded and deleted fewer than a dozen.
I have downloaded loads of Apps so far, a lot of them I have only used once or twice but others I have liked and happily paid for the full versions to help support the develpers. I have mainly gone for utilities rather than just games.
When an app is only 79p you can buy it to try it out with out worrying about the money, but I am sure there is a sweet spot where you have to think about if its worth paying for it before trying it out.
75 and I'm not even a tecchie or a gamer. All my apps are frrom the app catalog except Dieter's scientific calculator.
55 apps all together.... I love my Pre but I have gone through five of them since October. 40 of these are from the app catalog rest are homebrew. If they count the dozen times I have had to re-download all of them I would account for 660 downloads by myself in less than a year. That may be indicative of the 55 million number..lets hope not.
yeah i'm wondering how many of these downloads r legit. i've had 5 pres in the past year and have to download all my apps, tweaks, etc again each time. so my 5 times downloading about 60 apps/tweaks/etc is 300 right there and that doesnt include uninstalling the tweaks/patches/themes that i didnt care for after installing them.
so while 55 million is a nice number it means very little in that i'm willing to get at least 50% (if not more) is not real (as defined from my experience above).
If you count all of the tweaks and hacks as well as the apps, I am well over 100. I just wiped mine and Clocked it up to 800MHz (which I highly recommend) and then installed apps. What a difference. Have about 80 patches and 74 apps.
As for paid ones I like a lot,
Need for speed is awesome 10bucks
Asphalt5 is good, 5bucks
Xplane and Xplane Apollo are also fun. 10 and 5 bucks respectively
Bunches of useful little $1 apps.
Again, highly recommend the overclock. Phones runs ridiculous fast and installs apps with lightning speed. Hasn't gone over 105 degrees and that was only while playing need for speed. Usually sits around 92 degrees.
I brought need for speed when it first came out in Jan played it for 2 days and haven't played or even came close to beating the game because everytime I open it I get to many cards.. That was just a waste for me
I do have to occasionally restart the phone to play NFS but not all of the time. Usually only after using the messaging app it seems. As well, with the overclock, it plays mean. The overclock greatly enhanced this phone. Why Palm didnt just run the thing at 800 in the first place I dont know. Its capable of 1GHz.
Also, I am on my 5th pre since June 09 when it came out so I have also downloaded all of my apps several times. On that note, the patch that turns off the 64kps limit on large downloads is one of the best out there. The large game apps download in a fraction of the time especially if you are on a wifi connection.
Based on Preware I have 89 apps, 50 patches and 16 other misc objects installed.
I certainly have downloaded many more than once, often because the first version doesn't meet my needs but a later update includes features I was looking for in the first place.
Close to 275 things installed (according to my preware).. BUT.... Always a BUT....
This is my 6th Pre. Today I am going to pick up my 7th Pre (volume rocker lost its bounce... twice thats happened)..
Each time I replace my Pre, and restore/redownload (sometimes I cancel cause I prefer to redownload as needed), Does that count as a download?
Now, when a Pre is doctored and your Pre is restored, does that count as a download credit?
I have about 40 or so aps home brew and catalog i will never pay for an app i don't game on my phone so no need really... only app i will pay for would be Palringo or MIG33 if they ever come out for WebOS There are always free alternatives just have to look...
I guess i did pay for my tether that thus far is the only app i have paid for i have donated to WebOS Quick Install but that's it
Hey Dieter you forgot the catagory of.. I have a Pre but I never knew there was even and app store.. SMH Seriously I meet more and more people like this everyday now.. And all of them have been females lmao
