webOS Doctor version 1.4.5 for Sprint is now available 22

by Robert Werlinger Wed, 11 Aug 2010 5:54 pm EDT

Mere hours after finally pushing webOS 1.4.5 out to Sprint customers, Palm has updated the webOS Doctor tool to match.  For those unfamiliar, the webOS Doctor is a utility that allows users to reinstall and/or repair and replace damanged webOS files from either a Mac or PC - handy for when you "brick" (thanks to tools like this, webOS phones aren't really brickable) your phone experimenting with some of those bleeding edge, 1.2Ghz kernels from the webOS Internals testing feed.  Interested parties can click here for a direct download link

Also notable: if you use the webOS Doctor, you will eliminate that pesky 1.4.5 game save bug.

Thanks to jnever1 for the tip!

Nice. I was hesitant to accept the update without a Doctor to fall back on if necessary. Downloaded.

Is it possible to get *old* webOS Doctors?

I'm weighing all options, but one of them is to hold off upgrading until a key patch, the Command Line patch, specifically, is updated for 1.4.5.

[EDIT] And I need to Doctor, anyway. My Pre is not healthy. Among other things, system sounds are stuttering -- even during a full system restart.

The command line patch is already updated for 1.4.5 - I've been running it since I installed the developer version doctor last week, and now that I've updated with the OTA to the final approved version (which, incidentally, does not introduce the FSTab bug if you've previously doctored to the dev preview version) it's still working just fine. Patch notes in Preware say it was updated on June 22.

There is a torrent on the Pirate Bay of ALL the old webOS doctors (for Sprint). It's really slow but I did manage to get a copy of webOS 1.21 (Sprint) so I can do actual secure wipes on my Pre.

Yea! I am on Verizon and only have 15 more weeks to wait for 1.4.5.1.1a.

Too Funny!

Sad, but true. Sigh...

Note that you can also run the Emergency Fstab Fixer in Preware to eliminate the 1.4.5 game save bug.

Beep Beep The roadrunnner has two speedy legs That is a dual core Beep Beep

I got universal search back with the 1.4.5 upgrade w/o the doc.

Yeah

I doctored back to 1.4.1 before the OTA just in case, and my launcher stayed modified like I had done before the doctor. shouldnt it have put the default apps back in when I doctored it?

I have no problems with it but am just wondering why EVERYTHING didnt go back to stock...

I think all is saved in your Palm profile. I was wondering the same thing because when I installed the last webOS doctor, I still had an extra page of apps and my apps were all out of order. After some searching, I realized all that gets backed up.

Pretty neat, so you won't have to redo everything. But it's annoying if you want it to be stock after the update.

Sweet I have a non activated Pre needed this to update.I would have to say games play better now i did overclock the phone to 800mhz like i did on 1.41 but they just run smoother skater nation never played so well very happy with the update Palm Pre is a bad ass little gaming phone

hmm so i updated wishing i hadn't i am running Doctor 1.4.5 and getting a novacom message "waiting for service to stop, and or service removed" any insight? i've also tried running older versions of webosDoctor and get the same message
