webOS Events for June, 2011 10

by Tim Stiffler-Dean Wed, 01 Jun 2011 4:02 pm EDT

The events for June are already stacking up, with both the former CEO of Palm, Jon Rubenstein, and the CEO of HP, Leo Apotheker, taking two different stages today to talk about the future of webOS. But what does the rest of this month hold for the webOS event calendar? Jump after the break to get the full details on when and where these events are taking place, and be sure to send us an email or go to our events forums if you know of another event that should be added to the page.

HP Discover 2011
June 6th-10th in Las Vegas

The big event from HP this month is coming to Las Vegas in the form of their annual HP Discover conference. The registration price is a bit steep compared to others on this page, but for a four day event by the largest computer maker in the world, it's probably well worth it. Plus, we expect some good things to come out of the event in regards to webOS news, so keep your eyes open for what happens in Vegas this month.

webOS Developer Workshops
June 9th and 16th in Sunnyvale, CA

HP has been tagging these workshops onto the webOS CONNECT events in London, Paris and Berlin already, and now they'll continue the process of training webOS 3.0 (TouchPad, specifically) developers by opening their doors on the 9th and 16th of this month. Registration is free and just requires you to find your way to Sunnyvale, but taking it from others that have already been to these workshops, there is a wealth of information out there to be learned at these workshops. You should definitely take a look, even if just for the networking opportunities that come.

TXJS 2011
June 11th in Austin, Texas

At the Alama Drafthouse in Austin Texas, a group of JavaScript developers are gathering for the anual TXJS conference on June 11th. The event is already sold out, so don't expect to register any time soon, but HP webOS is one of the big sponsors of the event and there will be plenty of talk about mobile development going on. So it would probably be a good idea to keep your eyes on the people involved to see what good stuff comes out of it.

Detroit webOS Meetup
June 11th in (Detroit) St. Clair Shores, MI

In the spirit of our community forums, another group has come to the conclusion that a webOS meetup is what is needed in the Detroit, Michigan area. They've setup a time and date, and quite a large group of people, developers and users alike, have all made plans to meetup on June 11th in St. Clair Shores. If you're in the area, why not stop by for a few hours?

webOS Dev Meetup, NYC
June 22nd in New York City, New York

Our very own Jonathan Ezor (along with A Class Apps and webOS Dealer) has setup and is getting ready to host the first monthly NYC webOS Dev Meetup this June 22nd in Bryant Park, New York City. Get all of the details at the Meetup.com page, and head to the Big Apple for what looks to become a monthly meetup for webOS lovers in the region.

The Muther! of All Hackathons + Devcon
June 24th-25th in Mountain View, California

What words can be used to describe the massive event that is coming near the end of the month that calls itself "The Muther! of All Hacakthons"? Head to the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA on June 24th and 25th, and you can find out for yourself why hundreds of developers, both new and old, are going to an event like this. As they say, "The real world doesn’t focus on a single technology, phone or solution, so neither will the Muther!"

Silicon Valley webOS Meetup
June 26th in Mountain View, CA  Has been changed to July 1st

The Silicon Valley Palm User Group is opening their doors for the first webOS Meetup in quite a long time. On Sunday, the 26th, just after The Muther!, some webOS fans and HP employees will be coming together for a meetup that may quickly grow into a monthly event. You can see the details on their Facebook Event page or talk with Ajay for more information about how to get involved in either the Palm User Group or with the meetup that's coming later this month.

webOS CONNECT Toronto
June 28th in Toronto, Canada

webOS CONNET has been such a big hit over the last few months in Europe, that HP is finally bringing it to the North American continent, with a first stop in Toronto, Canada. HP's VP of Worldwide webOS Developer Relations, Richard Kerris, will be there to present webOS 3.0 to the Canadian people, and a number of people are already getting ready for the trip. Register for the event here, and if you've decided to join them from the States, don't forget to bring your Passport!

Maybe during the month of June, Ruby will finally announce the "something special" for legacy Pre users....hahahah. or maybe he will wait till the first of never for that announcement.

"something special" for legacy Pre users - "comming soon"

No mention of HP Discover from June 6th - 11th? It may not be all about webOS but its hard to deny the rumors that they will announce the launch of the HP TouchPad!

Added that in.

The next big event for webOS is collective hand-wringing after Steve Job's WWDC keynote on Monday morning. This will almost certainly be a software event announcing a years-worth of updates to iOS from a company that is fully invested and laser-focused on their platform. Apple brings a 1000 engineers to work with developers at the event.

It's safe to say that there will probably be some pretty neat things in there. Android looked impressive after the Google event. Even Windows Phone 7 looked pretty neat after they announced Mango.

Dont forget windows 8 demo yesterday, that looked sweet

Yep, Leo and Ruby are running around desperate now flipflopping on licensing as a result. The windows announcement was probably the icing on the cake. So much for webOS on a PC.

The train wreck is getting closer.

You wonder how much of their word-speak is positioning driven by Marketing as compared to Technical.

It's a crowded space out there and any message at the wrong time will get lost. And definitely the wrong message at any time will be fatal.

how do we get events in this list? We have a silicon valley webOS meetup scheduled for the end of the month...

Send me an email with the details. tim@precentral.net

Is this the one you and Donald were planning?
