WebOS games shown running on a Nokia N900 [video] 33
Again the awesome power of webOS is demonstrated by others' desire to emulate it, this time by hacking a Nokia N900 running Maemo to play webOS PDK apps.
A video posted on YouTube shows The Sims 3 running silky smooth on an N900. Other users in a Maemo forum said Need for Speed Undercover and Let's Golf with great success as well, and without much effort. Check out the video after the break.
It is not too surprising when you consider the specs of the Nokia N900 and the Pre are almost identical. Both have an OMAP3430 processor, both have a PowerVR SGX and OpenGL ES 2.0 libs, and both run a Linux based OS. Native apps for the Pre are written with SDL 1.2, which the N900 supports.
The only problem for an N900 user running one of these games is that the N900 does not support multi-touch, which would render some games unplayable unless a hardware work around could be devised, as one user suggested using the keyboard.
The Pre is one of the best gaming devices around. It is rivaled only by the iPhone and porting iPhone games to webOS can be done fairly quickly so there is not much of a disparage between the two devices. The games run just as smoothly on webOS as they do on the iPhone (with the exception of too many cards errors on a Pre minus). So after years of hearing about 'iPhone envy', it is nice to see some Pre envy out there.

The pre is not a good gaming device, and it won't be until it has a bigger screen to incorporate bigger contols, and a landscape hardware keyboard, because this teeny portrait sucks for games.
With the iPhone being the biggest mobile gaming device, it's screen is only .4 inches bigger than the Pres. And no landscape hardware keyboard. You're argument doesn't make sense.

You went from hardware to the app comparison argument? The point was in the article, I think, was that the pre has the ability to play most of the same games as the iphone because of the apps portability. Not many phones can run these type of games. So with the pre being about the same size and able to play the same type of games, the article is right when saying its only rival is the iPhone.
too bad that JokeOS has been stagnant so long that devs don't give a shit anymore. They will port games to where the moneys at. And you guess where that's at.

It is pointless to expect intelligence from some people. I suspect our "friend" is in pretty desperate need of a life. It's obvious he has reading comprehension issues since there are regular announcements about new software being released (granted, not as copiously as we would like to see... but it's been coming since the pronounced death of webOS) I'm sure he's disappointed that webOS still exists.
(I should probably be using smaller words :-) )

I went to grab a pkg for FF, Opera, and I'm ever-hunting the skype package now..
But skype, and the libraries I need to get a sloppy/quick test working, are on device. Anyone with a n900 around here want to contribute to.. n900env? I just need a few files off your phone. Maybe we can start a project page for this, or at least a thread in the forums.
The first task is to get an n900 firmware image or device access. The SDK didn't seem to have all the libs that are needed.
I got TuxPaint.org for Maemo to work on my Pre, so the initial "Is it possible?" question is solved. (Visually, it looks exactly like the port I did using the widk)

Maemo apps are made using Qt right? A while back we got Qt ported to webOS. I guess Nokia users wanted to have webOS apps and Qt apps too.

when all os that are made with linux till all apps can be ported to any deviece and any company that thinks there os stands out because of there apps will lose..
look at crack berry there using the multi tasking as if it was there's... Anyone making phones NOW should be aware of this...

Ok, has anyone ported webOS to the N900?
I have a suspicion that a WebOS port would be difficult to hardware without a gesture area but I could be mistaken.
