webOS to get full 3D RPG, Crusade of Destiny 45
RPG lovers and fanatics, I've got some good news for you: the lack of 3D Role Playing Games in the App Catalog is about to be remedied with the release of Crusade of Destiny. The game has been well received on the iOS platform since its release last year, and has ton of great features including in-game cycles of real night and day, a balanced economy system, an intuitive combat system and much more (a breakdown of key features can be found on developer Dvideart's website)
The catalyst behind this, of course, is the PDK which enables developers to quickly and easily port their existing C/C++ games on over to webOS. I'd say that we can expect a slew of these kind of titles to be hitting the App Catalog after the PDK Hot App program kicks of on Thursday. Gamers: be excited.
Catch a video of Crusade of Destiny in all of its OpenGL hardware accelerated glory after the break!

ok. Nerd alert.
BAHAHA! +1
looks pretty cool
I will buy. Makes me wonder why a WoW port from PC was never attempted by Blizzard. Could that be done on the pre? Or a phone for that matter?
Sounds kind of absurd to me; it would cost too much, and there are way too many keyboard requiring actions in WoW that aren't possible on a touchscreen
I will buy instantly
Give me a bigger screen and fix the "Sorry too many cards" error first Palm... HP
Check the homebrew Govnah, uberkernel and compache. With these, the Too Many Cards, is a thing of the past and I have been playing my 3D games without issue. I even have a few other cards open and don't need to reboot.
glu, gameloft and any other developer of 3D games should pay those guys.

bigger screen is coming, but for now if you get most of the overclocking kernals like the f105 1ghz kernal it contains a compache that helps move ram properly, hence never getting the TMC error. I myself have a sprint pre, and run that kernal and have ran 45 programs including 3 games (nova, need for speed, sims3) and have not once rec a TMC error. So look into it.
I haven't gone to the 1ghz kernel yet. I am having pretty good results with the 250/500 screen state.
I am sure I will get bored again soon and install it though :)

Yeah but i just don't want to risk bricking my Pre. Plus I believe every time a webOS update comes out (not that it's been often lately) I would have to uninstall all these hacks, do the update then re-install right?
No that's not true. After an update the patches are disabled by default. Open Preware again and it will update for the new version of WebOS or if it is not already avaible there will be a placeholder so that you will be notified when there is an update.
You do not need to fear to brick your pre. Just install Ueberkernel + Govnah and you are done ;).

Have no fear. The guys at webOSinternals have made UK OTA-safe. Meaning you don't start from scratch with each update. It's very friendly and plays well with others ;)
Now featured: Three minutes of play before your battery dies!
I'm sorry, this is cool but I honestly don't think the market for "mobile 3D gaming" is really that big.
Sure it is. All the bean spout eating, meditating, have a phone that looks like a riverstone types are all gaga over 3D gaming. It give them something to do before their yoga class starts.
We talk about Android's O/S being fractured. Palm marketing certainly was. Just what the heck was EP/Palm aiming at? Was it a game device? Was it an extension of zen? Was it a game platform? I'm with you. The last six months seem to have been devoted to 3D gaming in the R+D area. Further distance from the hardcore professional image Palm had developed.
Believe it or not, some of us hardcore professional types do occasionally like to relax and play a video game or two.
And the Pre has a bigger screen than my DS does. I'm not a big gamer, but I'm excited about this game.
Well I think you are able to play up to 3 hours with a full charge. Well actually it's the future of all game companys. In 10 or 20 years the old big pc's / mac's are gone. Replaced by tablets, smartphones and even better eyeglasses or flexible screens. So no matter what you develop you should also focus the mobile world.

I have always wanted to check out these games on the Pre but it feels like it would be to cramped and almost a waste of money, thus why I want the next WebOS phone to be just a little bigger
Go download the free Assassin's Creed demo. It has the basic game mechanics of any RPG and you can determine if the hardware is good for you.
If you have a Pre- (the sprint pre) I highly recommend getting UberKernel and Govnah from PreWare and enabling CompCache & one of the faster clock speeds (UberKernel default is good because it only overclocks in certain cases, like 3D games).
CompCache expands the effective RAM cache, leaving more RAM for programs but at reduced cache speed. The Pre- is constrained on RAM. Boosting the clockspeed does quite a bit for performance. The feel of a 800Mhz pre- is almost buttery, velvety smooth.
People may say that throwing hardware at a problem isn't a real solution. Those people are idiots. Anything that resolves the problem is, by definition, a solution. Optimization would be nice but sometimes a given set of features CANNOT function on a given hardware platform. You can't run WebOS on featurephone hardware. It's quite possible that the multitasking overhead explains why Android and WebOS on 600Mhz ARM is laggy compared to an iPhone 3GS on 600Mhz ARM. Dark Lord Steve traded features for performance.
I'll still be happy with my rich set of features and slightly laggy performance on my current Pre- but I'd be happier being able to upgrade to a 1Ghz Pre2 with 512MB ram, 32GB flash, a 3.5-4" screen and a 1500Ma battery.

"1Ghz Pre2 with 512MB ram, 32GB flash, a 3.5-4" screen and a 1500Ma battery."
You nailed it man :)
Awesome, there's the sound of my Pre playing violin music 'cause it only has 8GB of storage...
Srs, hope this gets released before July 23rd, :D
Youtube site says it's currently under review by Palm and it will be $5.
If this is anywhere near as fun as Dungeon Hunter, I'm sold.
I think this is great, the idea of course to me on any mobile platform nowadays, is to offer everything a person would want, or need. Since day one when they offered 3D games to me it has always put them ahead of the competiton, when you add in everything else the Webos devices do like true multitasking, synergy, gestures along with everything else the competition already offers it puts them on a higher pedastal. Not everyone will enjoy games, or like the idea of it, but you have to understand its a way to compare and contrast devices when it comes down to someone buying a cell phone in the store. So yes this is great news.
I am done playing games until they fix the "Too many cards" error on the Sprint Pre's. Yes the kernels fix it, but it also fried my power button. At least it went out after I installed it. Also, plug your phone up while playing games. It really helps.
I'm don't think the kernels can fry your power button. The power button flaw is a known issue with the first gen Pre's. Mine went out 5 months into having my phone, way before I started using the Uberkernel. You can stick an eraser under the power button, or take it back to Sprint and they will fix it.
I will buy this too though I am concerned about getting addicted to it if my previous experience of playing RPGs is anything to go by.
Will games like this be available on Pixi once the 1.4.5.1 patch hits? or are us Pixi users SOL.
I really did not research enough before getting the Pixi. it was either the Hero for like $150 or the Pixi for Free at the time, so I went with free, guess I paid the price in the end eh? :-)
I really hope it has a multiplayer online feature! Then i'd be willing to fork over $10-15. Of course the online feature has to be good, bug free, and smooth. Think: runescape!!
Common stay serious. Then millions of people say: 'This Game sucks. I can't play in multiplayer mode. Always says Connection was closed. I want my money back.' Statting this while on GPRS (down 3 kbits up 0,5 kbits).
But still it would be cool :)!
What, "Button Quest" isn't good enough for ya? :)
I put a dent in my phone playing that game haha
One of the last things I downloaded on my Evo before I returned it. I liked it on that platform and you can sign me up as soon as it's available.
are you saying this game was out on android already?
Yes. I had purchased it through the Android App store and played it before I returned the Evo back to Sprint.
This just made my day!!
critial hit!
BUTTON QUEST FTW.
Looks impressive though, like WoW.
Yeah I just can't get into these games. I want business apps, things that make me more productive.
Yes I think we all would like to see more productivity apps, but it is good to see quality games too. Lots of people like the games and getting more quality apps of any kind will help to drive sales.
I would be happy to get a RPG, it does not even need to be a 3d one. An over head view RPG would even be nice.
I think it is nice that iphone apps can be ported over easy, but what is going to happen now that they have their new iphone 4 with a different resolution? If app start to get updated or created for it will we still see ports?
No iPhone 4 has no different resolution. If you wnt a good RPG buy Dungeon Hunter. Diablo like RPG. It's even 3D but not first person view. Still love this game!
UberKernel with compache how I found it??? help plz!
It's Thursday and the game isn't out! Why is this? Please release it!
I want Ocarina of Time on my Pre! :(
