webOS homebrew consortium WebOS Internals has a new YouTube channel where they've posted a bunch of videos that visualize the development of various homebrew projects. It's, like, whoa. Check out one such video after the break and hit the source link for even more. As long as your clicking links, you can help ensure that more such action happens by donating to the cause. All the cool kids are doing it.

That looks like the most awesome space-laser game ever.
Seriously -- someone please make the "webOS Homebrew Defenders" game.
Was that thing in the lower left corner a Death Star? Are Rod W. and Luke S. one-in-the-same? Does somebody have too much time on their hands? ;-)
Sure wish the new WebOS devices were out so I could take advantage of their latest work... :-(
Note that the "Gource" open source tool was used to create these videos. You point it at an existing source code respository, and with a single command you get these awesome videos created, with no manual intervention required. It takes a couple of minutes to create each video - time well spent in my opinion, to show the extent of the collaboration of the developers involved.

Can someone please explain what I just saw?
It's a visualization of all the projects under the webOS Internals umbrella and all of the contributions made by individual developers.
You watched Rod "Rod Whitby" Whitby smite the earth and cause the whole of the Homebrew Community to come into existence.
Stunned? So am I.
if i assume correct, this is a representation of all theh patches and apps rod and company have created over the years. that big ball would be the ones distrubuted through preware...
That is correct. One important thing to note is that all those patches (the "starburst" in the bottom left) are contributed by over a hundred individual developers, most of whom are not associated with WebOS Internals. The starburst is the result of all their efforts.

webOS homebrew = dandelions
amazing work guys
Come on Rod, you can't make us believe you don't play this all the time and make laser blast and Pee-Wee Herman "aaaaaaarghhh!" sounds. I would.
I think I saw Orion's belt in there.
Who cares who is tied to which project or who contributed to one? HP's App store with a whopping 5700 apps and catch up to other platforms apps catalogs at 100K+. Just develop more practical apps so we can use our devices.
This is for homebrew apps/patches/etc. They don't have to abide by what you say, nor do they have to make official apps.
If you want an app made for the App Catalog, you're more than welcomed to join the developer program and make one yourself.
The developers of webOS Internals have been generous enough to donate their very important time to us, so stop complaining. If you cannot recognize their contributions, then you have a problem.
is it the 4th of July already? fantastic fireworks display if so.
Just checking, but was there sound in this video. I didn't hear any sound.
Would be nice to add some sort of sound track.
Maybe just an automated voice saying each of the patches and apps names as they are presented. Maybe even say the developers name as well.
With 'The Keith Newman's Laser Woosh sound that they play on Palm Centrals Podcast!
Rob
Correct, there is no sound. Lisa Brewster suggested we add "Director's Commentary" to them, but that would take a significant amount of effort - these videos as they stand took a couple of minutes each to generate using the "Gource" open source visualisation tool.

It remembers me to Xavier on the X-Men movies.
what we see here is Rod Whitby being the man.
Like how every 30ish the floating head of rod explodes the deathstar with more updates.
I love seeing lasers come out of everyone avatar (including mine!!!)... so much fun to watch!
kudos to webos internals and all the homebrew developers. you've made the pre acceptable.
Beautiful.
wow. visualization of mediocrity. pathetic.
Now if only all that afford had been spent on something more worthwhile than webOS development, like for example digging a hole and then shoveling all the dirt back in. Let alone work on a system that has real users, like Android.
Sent from my EPIC!
Thank you for being so transparent with your intelligence.
That is sent from my Legend. WebOS is king.
What a lost soul you must be... lurking around on sites like this when you don't even use this device. Get a girlfriend, move out of your mother's basement and have a life... Sad, sad, sad...
Rod is the Puppet Master!
admins,
you could probably take this opportunity to ban a couple of a-holes. Namely trollor and mikevillain. They bring nothing useful and webosinternals are the last ppl anyone should have anything negative to say about. What they've done for us is amazing.
I have never used webos Internals stuff on my pre just because I like to keep original but I know they are great and they have done a lot of great things for the webos community. Please keep up the excellent work.
For people like trollor, you need to get the F^^K out of here and shut the F^^K up because android don't have shit over webos. I currently own an evo and I can't wait to go back to webos. And trust me, this time when we come back in the summer, we will be out for good and we will be crushing all of you android fakers balls. You will be ashamed of your self very soon.
And I agree with prequan's suggestion to ban all of you here.
