webOS onTap homebrew Pivot gets a preview, coming later month

Back in April the homebrew community stepped up to take on vacancy left by HP's abandonment of the App Catalog magazine, Pivot. It's taken a while to pull together the people and expertise to make it happen, but today we got our first previews of how we should expect the new onTap replacement to look.

The onTap team has taken plenty of visual cues from Pivot. The four pages they're showing include the onTap cover, two pages that comprise a review of the Apollo Pandora TouchPad app, and an intro page for a section discussing apps available outside of official App Catalog and homebrew channels like the webOS Nation Homebrew Gallery. While Pivot on occasion touched on homebrew themes, we're not surprised - and happy to see - that onTap is going to be putting a greater focus on homebrew.

The onTap team is still shooting for an August release for the first issue, and we're looking forward to seeing what else is in store later this month. Though the homebrew subject matter of this issue is a little on the ironic side, considering that you'll need to install a homebrew patch from Preware to view it properly through the App Catalog. Need to do that? Here you go.

Awesome!

sorry for my ignorance, but since it will go to Preware, will it be available for ALL webOS devices ?

Sorry, it'll only be on the TouchPad because we're using the magazine framework provided by App Catalog. We have plans to expand to a web version, and possibly a mobile webOS phone version, but that will come later.

Oh well it's okay :) Thanks for all your hardwork :) Looking forward to a possible mobile version :)

Oh, pity, as I'm a phone-only guy. Enyway, those contents are what matter, and they deserve to get red by as many people as possible. Keep it up!

Great, already had a look and am pleased that someone has taken this up. Will be great to have contributions from the community as well as devs etc (if we still have some). Would be awesome to see this on the Pre2/3 too. Bit like the ipad app store where you can see apps for phones & tablets, after all Touchpad can run Pre apps (albeit in a little area of the screen). Maybe the 'magazine' component coudl also encorporate a readers section?

The english in the preview sucks. They need an editor to clean it up, ASAP.

How about instead of complaining on the english used. Contribute to the project if it bothers you that much.

"(...)we're not surprised - and happy to see - that onTap is going to be putting a greater focus on homebrew.(...)"
...well, is there anything else left in webOS land, to focus on?

All aside - kudos for people involved, caring enough to contribute their own efforts and free time...

the voting for the name should have included a 'none of the above' option..

anyways, this just says its filling the reservoir for me, no content:(
