webOS From a Windows Phone Perspective: Smartphone Round Robin 13
The Smartphone Round Robin is on, folks, and so far we have to say that it's been a smashing success. This week our dear old webOS is getting the once-over from a Windows Mobile perspective. If you haven't yet, head on over to WMExperts to watch Phil Nickinson learn up on webOS and compare Homebrew and Patches to ROMS and Flashing.
More importantly, Phil has started up a thread right here in our forums where he's looking for input and info as he compares these two platforms. The conversation there is great and looks to continue to be great, so check it out. You know that every day you make a post in that thread this week you're entered for another chance to win a webOS phone from us, right? Well, now you do.

I remember last year when I wanted a Touch Pro.. Went to the store and they were all out. Glad they was than a month later the Pre was announced :)
Man, that HD2 is the most gorgeous phone so far. That thing with Android or WebOS would be a monster.
I used to have an HTC Mogul and once I hacked the crap out of it (Flashing custom ROM etc) it worked pretty well. I found it unbelievable how cludgy the Windows OS was in its pristine unhacked state.
I love how polished the webOS is and how integrated it is with the hardware. I think that HTC makes nice hardware but the polish of integrated hardware and software that Palm has provided trumps it.
My wishlist for the Pre is native video recording, fixing latency issues, Flash and battery life. I don't really care about apps. There are so few that are any good at all on any platform that I just don't hold my breath.
I just want the latency issues fixed. I don't even care about apps. I don't have time to sit around and play games. I just text, email and use the cal. Thats all I need.
The icing on the WebOS cake is the notification system. It is the best I have seen after watching the different round robin videos. Palm did a marvelous job.
Concur on the messaging. Also synergy and linked contacts. Linked contacts are a good idea, and that could only come together easily with the integration of synergy.
I also had (technically still have) a Mogul. It was a very nice phone, especially with touchflo 2D hacked onto it. I still believe my favorite phone would be a touch pro 2 variant with a snapdragon processor and WebOS or Android.
Seriously, I'd pay lotsa dough for that.
HTC makes beautiful devices on paper, but the build quality is disgusting, and device usability isn't even comparable to an iPhone, and so doesn't hold a candle to the Pre/Pixi.
Windows Mobile is worse than PalmOS 5, despite hackability. It's unstable, bug-ridden -- and it CHUGS. Ugh, I'm getting a headache just thinking about it. Forget about a decent web experience, also, of any kind.
Basically, I feel very sorry for SPE's WinMo branch, but admire them for their endurance.

Note: I owned the Mogul for a couple years, and the Apache before that.
Maybe next time you should reset the device so the person can get the first use tutorial and video to at least teach the back gesture and basic navigation.
I'm a pretty patient person so the lack of apps doesn't bother me, My Pre is very fast, I compared it too the Hero (sprint) and the Moment and the Pre was able to render Pages faster. Its still a new platform and I definitely understand the lack of some features, like Video Recording Essays Expository Essays Graduate essay Harvard essay how to write essay
WinMo is great when hacked.
It is just frustrating to have to spend hours hacking something when it should work better out of the box.
As it stands, I loved being able to hack my phones, change the UI, add programs, do new back ups yadda yadda. But I hated HAVING to do it. Between trying new ROMS, installing and updating programs, contacts and more it could take a half day to get everything "right".
I can start using WebOS from a Doctor visit and be totally back on track in about 30 mins with all patches and relevant programs installed and optimized. Sweet. And the task management is even sweeter.
I do still miss the customization and home screens i used on WinMo. I hate that I can't see the weather and calendar at a glance. I need at least these in a widget.

I'm surprised someone on here is complaining about WinMo being slow... I absolutely love my Pre and wouldn't go back to WinMo unless it literally stole everything it could from WebOS. --but I must admit, WM5 on my old 700wx was significantly faster than most functions on the Pre. But I'm being patient: I know that speed will come in time.
I switched over from Windows Mobile platform to my Pre and I am absolutely happy I did. I had the HTC PPC-6800 Most know it as the Mogul. The Phone was great I absolutely loved the phone. The build quality was excellent it was a very durable phone, at least for the few drops I had. I did like windows mobile, but it would just start to lag and just slow down after a while. Basically the same as a new Windows Computer. (I'm not an apple fan I run linux so don't call me an apple fanboy lol) I also hacked my Mogul for basically my needs which was great. It just sucks having to do that. I Love my Pre, WebOS is a great OS and will just continue to get polished over time. I'm a pretty patient person so the lack of apps doesn't bother me, My Pre is very fast, I compared it too the Hero (sprint) and the Moment and the Pre was able to render Pages faster. Its still a new platform and I definitely understand the lack of some features, like Video Recording, I just hope that THAT and the GPU fix comes Sooner rather than later. I'm assuming Flash might also be on the 1.3.5 update since they promised flash in December for the Pre. But promises are meant to be broken right?
Comming from Windows mobile to the Pre, webOS is a welcome change from the clunky. Very smooth and simple from compared to WinMo.
I have the Touch Pro 2 but the Pre still prefer the Pre.
