Weekend App Giveaway: A couple hundred copies of WackyLands Boss 46

HP may be busy giving away copies of TouchPad apps, but we know there are still plenty of webOS phone users out there. The build-a-baddie game BigBoss was in HP’s first six-pack of TouchPad promo codes, and now we’ve got the phone version - WackyLands Boss - here to give away for the rest of you!
This giveaway’s going to be run a little bit differently than our previous contests. And by different, we mean that it’s not going to be a contest. The developer – the always fun Fair Play Labs – had a few hundred promo codes to give away, so you’ll find them below. You’ll need a Palm Pre-series phone running at least webOS 2.1 with the latest update to the App Catalog to take advantage of these codes. Each code is of limited quantity, so once they're out, they're out!

Too bad my Pre Plus isn't running webos 2.1. Wonder if I'd have time to doctor it and still use the promo code?
Did you try to redeem the code? Once you click it, I think it uses the code whether it will run or not. I could be wrong though.
Nevermind, I'm an idiot and completely misunderstood the problem, lol. I don't know if it's worth doctoring if you hadn't planned on it already.
you don't need to doctor, you just need to get the 2.1.x app catalog and can use it on your pre+ (aka: yes, even running 1.4.5)
It was a frontpage article on PC, and mentioned in the forums. Short version: Find a copy of the AC (com.palm.app.findapps_2.0.22100_all.ipk is the name of an older version, not sure if it's current or not, but it'll work) app, like using that httpunzip tool to download it from the legit doctor if you don't want to download the whole thing. If you already have a copy of the doctor, then you've already got the power!
Did the author deliberately disable TouchPad support? In the absence of a native full-screen app, I'll take a phone-sized window-based app any day.
The USA code link is not working for me.
It gave me an error the first time. Just try it again, then hit promo and type your password.
"This application is not available for your model."
Looks like the developer didn't tag Pre3 as a compatible OS, even though Pre3 can scale up 320x480 PDK apps :(
*cry* Looks like HP screwed up and killed the Pre3 so I'll never get one :(
ok Jason, given all you've done for the webOS community it's fitting that you've managed to get a Pre3, but extending any sympathy because you missed out on a free game promo is highly unlikely.
For the record, I went to great lengths to get a UK Pre3. However, many devs, like this one, didn't label the Pre3 as a compatible device, so the app count for Pre3 users are significantly lower. Even worse, a number of PDK games, including the Angry Birds games don't work at all. Point is, even those who went to extreme lengths go get a Pre3 outside of the UK, don't get nearly the same app experience as people with a Pre2 or Veer.
Can you convince the App Catalog that you actually have Pre2 in any way? What would happen?
agreed with Jason, thinking I really will surprise te wife with a Pre2 at this point... Might get me a Pre2 by Christmas, if pre3 doesn't change
Actually, Angry Birds does work on the Pre3. I thought it didn't but after a partial erase to fix a problem with getting PreWare on it started working for me. I only notice when I caught my daughter playing it and did a double-take.
But yeah, so many apps won't install, it is getting really frustrating. Many of those that do install don't work properly as well as they don't calibrate the touchscreen correctly for the new resolution. Solitaire Collection looke great but you can't move the cards as they move disproportionately to the touchscreen making it all but impossible to place them right.
It's a fun game. Even if you don't get a free code it is still worth the price of admission.

no love for the last WebOS phone to come out in the USA....
With small quantities unless you see these offers within like 5 seconds you are likely going to miss out. I got my touchpad a few days after the first 6 pack offer and was disappointed they offered such a low quantity of copies free. The 2nd 6 pack I responded in a matter of minutes and they were all gone.
Low quantity? They gave away 5000 copies of each app - developer are limited to 1000 total giveaways per app.

Why not make this app TP compatible and then give away the codes. There are hardly any users on webOS 2.x.
I thought the article said the TP version already had its code giveaways, and i don't know the status of fat packages yet, do you?

Unfortunately, I don't think there will be any Australian redemptions. Reason being, nobody in Australia can enter their credit card info in the Pre2 (or presumably Veer/Pre3). It's a problem with the App Catalog app.
Did somebody find a solution to this?
if you have an Australian catalog, you should gave no issues entering any credit card details. I have already bought a few apps with no issues at all. Anyway, it is a great app, but I am so bad at it:'(
For the TouchPad, the credit card issues are fixed. I'm talking about the Pre2/Veer/Pre3.
If you shared an account between a phone and a TouchPad, it might work. This assumes that you have a TouchPad, and you also registered it against the Australian store.
I actually originally made the profile on the touchpad, then doctored my pre 2 to it so that I could buy some apps, and it works.

Why no games like this for Veer?!
It seems like all of the good games are reserved for iPhone resolution. I wish there were more games for the Veer. It has enough screen space for some of the bigger games. I am getting tired of pulling out my phone when i'm bored and putting it away after seeing Angry Birds and Slice It. They get boring after playing them a lot.

I have the exact problem as Hagris: it doesn't even exist on the french catalog (accessed from the Touchpad)...
Let's hope it'll get fixed!
