What are your favorite social media apps? [PC Brain Trust] 42
We've been spotlighting our own favorite apps on a regular basis here, but the truth is: our members' collected wisdom is greater than ours. We've asked you what you're favorite travel apps and games are in previous installments of the PreCentral Brain Trust series and you've responded en masse. Here's how it works: We pose a question, you tell us in the comments what the best stuff is, we gather up your favorites, and report back on what's hot.
This time around, we want to know what your favorite social media applications are. There's a large and diverse selection of Twitter apps, WordPress apps, and location-based apps like FourSquare and GoWalla - so much so that the choices can be overwhelming at times. So tell us, PreCentral Nation, what social media apps can you just not do without?

Bad Kitty!
I bought it and dislike it very much. I wish Twee would go back to 1.5. I've been searching for an alternative since it hit 2.0 and took out features.
I may have missed something; what features disappeared from Twee in 2.0? My only complaints have been having to rebuild my account list, and the lack of a darker visual theme to match the rest of my apps.
To round out the question asked by the article, in addition to Twee, I use Facebook Beta, Foursquare, and Ping.FM for when I need to crosspost something (I don't keep my Twitter and FB accounts linked because I have friends on FB that I'd rather not see some of the things I tweet).
I believe Stocks and Nearby disappeared, nearby being the biggest complaint I've read (well, besides lack of dark theme). You can only look at Nearby tweets for searches, the actual nearby timeline is gone.
I only use Facebook, of the social media options. I use Facebook's touch site mostly, but the latest Facebook Beta app offers me more options than the Touch site does, namely better photo perusing. As such, the Facebook (beta) app is about all I use.
facebook beta
palm facebook
facebook is one of my few apps. it's ok. i only use it maybe two or three times a week. Still probably my most used app.
TweetMe
Facebook.... how about a poll?
Twitter for Blackberry.. Wait wrong site. TweetMe and m.facebook.com
For reading twitter:
Twee (speed & automarking last position in the feed & multiuser support)
For posting to twitter:
TweetMe (drafts automatically saved)
Facebook:
Palm's Facebook client
I really do not understand Gowalla & Foursquare. As I mentioned here: http://3.ly/W8A2 Thanks in advance to anyone willing to take a crack at explaining the social benefit of these services in light of the social cost of the service (see my blog post).
Tweed and Facebook beta
I can't believe that Tweed is still the only Twitter client on WebOS to have a timeline marker. That is what also keeps me on Tweed.
I have both facebook and facebook beta installed (to keep up with the updates), I use Foursquare (had both foursquare and gowalla installed, preferred foursquare) and tweefree (trying out twee before I decide to buy).
The benefits of Foursquare/Gowalla are showing your friends where you frequent, what you think the best places are. It also gives your friends a chance to join you where you're at, as it also adds simply a new thing to do. I'm a 20 year old WebOS fanboy, and I'm pretty sure foursquare/gowalla is geared towards my generation. I don't see many social costs myself, seeing as you choose where it posts, you choose if you want to check in or not, and you choose who sees your check-ins (allowing certain privacy settings/certain people as friends on facebook).
Ok. But isn't there also a risk, using 4sq or Gowalla that you're telling the internet: Hey I'm not at home at the moment. If you come to rob me, you won't have to put up with the pesky resident.
What sort of thing do you do to prevent that?
Well, for starters, you make the first move of only befriending people whom you actually know personally.
As far as sending notifications to Twitter or Facebook, just turn those off. Then the only people that can possibly know where you are, you already know and trust.
Thanks. That helps.

- Twee (of course, still watching out for the much hyped BadKitty update)
- Digloo (Digg client, app perfection...Twitter integration is godly)
I tried Foursquare, but it's pointless for me. I was thinking about trying a tumblr client, but twitter is enough work, honestly...still working on expanding the twitter base, I don't have time for Tumblr.
Pretty excited for Mojo Messenger to release a beta and the Gamer Friends app, when it expands to include messaging. :D

I'm a cross country OTR Big truck driver. I'm already being watched by big brother. I have GPS Locator on my Qualcomm Satellite Communications device, and get tagged all the time with my EZ Pass & Prepass( for Scales and Weigh Stations) & we just got word we're going to Electronic logs in November. So I decided to take the plunge & play around with Gowalla and I'm having fun with it so far. I also use Tweed & Palm Facebook & Palm FB Beta. I also use Send Map & Cell Stalker to send my location for friends & family that I get to visit. Also I think some of my friends live vicariously through me as they are stuck at home or in a cubicle. Anyway that's my 2

Digloo is amazing. I use the facebook beta only for things I can't do on the mobile site (tag people, get notifications, when it decides to send them). And I use Foursquare, but not really too much.
Zhephree's Foursquare App. Can't wait for the new update coming out this week.
Facebook, Facebook beta and occasioanlly.
I don't Twit.
I use the facebook beta app daily.
I might use one of the Tumblr apps in the future.
Every day: Tweed and Facebook Beta
Occasionally: Zipsquare, Foursquare Beta, Gowalla, FriendsFlowBeta, Spaz
Rarely: Bad Kitty
Facebook...(beta version)
1. PreCentral
2. FaceBook
3. App Idea Box
Palm Facebook App
Tumbly (Tumblr client)
Bad Kitty
Tweed has been my preferred Twitter app, but I've just installed Twee, so we'll see how that goes. Twee looks better at first glance.
The facebook app is awful, though. It's buggy, the links don't always work, and even when I go into facebook by the web, it overrides my browser. My wife hates it, too.
I also follow many facebook and Twitter updates by SMS (primitive, I know, but it comes in in real time).
I want Yahoo in the IM I am extremly disappointed their is no Yahoo IM. If there was that would be what i would use. All other social media apps suck in my opinion unless you can make a way to play your favorite facebook game on you palm too.
