Description

WiFi File Sharing is a Samba controller for webOS, simply open the App and your device will appear as a Network Share in your favourite desktop OS' file browser. Open it up, and transfer away! Your screen will stay on so long the app is in the foreground, so no need to worry about it locking and disconnecting in the middle of something. When you're done, just close the app and it'll automatically disable the network shares until you're ready to use them again.
Requires Easy Samba & Homebrew JS Service Framework. Requires a Luna Restart.

Changelog:
1.4: Exhibition Mode, Workgroup Preference, Pretty CSS Animations, WiFi icon lights up to indicate Samba Status.
1.3: Bugfixes, New graphics by BlueRQ
1.2: First Preware Version

I've tried installing and uninsalling but I am having what appears to be a very popular problem... I can't access my TouchPad now matter how I try (thru Explorer, via it's name, via its IP, etc.)... any suggestions?

I tried to install it on my PRE2 and it seems to go OK ... but no visibe application on the launcher.

Hi dsimonse,
after installing you must reboot your PRE2. After the reboot you can use the application.

Working great. Windows 7 immediately found the new network drive. Thanks a lot.

The touchpad's wifi got stuck in manual ip mode shortly after installing. Removing the app and reseting TP resolved issue. I have not re-installed yet to see what happens. Any one else seeing this?

If the app isn't showing up, try a Luna Restart. It shouldn't effect ip mode, it only calls stuff to look at and modify smb.conf and activate/deactivate samba.

the app shows up but even after restart the wifi was stuck in manual ip until i de-install.
what is in the 1.3? It is not on preware yet.

WinXP Pro I found the touchpad samba share in Network places, view work-group computers and easily set access to all directories.

1.30 is not currently on Preware.

1.4 should be in Preware very soon, with lots of fancy new features. I forgot to update the package control file so 1.3 showed up as 1.2.

Thanks for this app! It's awesome. I installed it on my Pre 3, and it works like a champ. Better and easier to use than those syncing apps. I can just use simple drag and drop from Windows to transfer files or even just do file management on the device. Only thing I would ask is for the app to display the device's current IP address. That would be really helpful in situations where getting to the device by name is not reliable. As much as I like free, I would definitely pay for this app. Thanks again.

1.3 seems to be woking quite well with windows 7. This is great way to link to a PC. Thanks for all the work. I look foward to what you do with 1.4.

it would be great if there was a way for two touchpads to link via wifi.

Great, great application! Building it off Samba really makes this handy. Not only can the Windows machines on my network see the tablet now, but my Ricoh MFP's scanner can also scan directly to it.

Much thanks and I'm looking forward to future developments!

App (v1.4) is up and running on Pixi with webOS 1.4.1.1. Tried navigating on PC to \\device name\Public from XP Home PC but it cannot be found. I first installed app using Preware, rebooted device, app launches OK, but cannot see it from XP Home PC. I then removed app, and installed using ipk using Web OS Quick Install, rebooted device, app launches OK, but cannot see device from XP Home PC. Any ideas?

I see from another post that this works on WebOS 2.x and higher. Bummer.

JUST GREAT !!!!

I was waiting for that, THANKS ! (donated)

I installed the app on my Pre2 and performed a reset. The preference button and menu-launcher seem to be grayed-out and do not respond. In Vista there is no sign of a wireless Pre2. Anyone?

I quickly found the folder in network places as others have. The only problem I have seen that it will not transfer large files. I've tried several different movie files I created for the touchpad which they are around 700mb. It just says to the effect gathering information but never finishes. I was able to transfer around 600mb at one time but couldn't play the file at all so I deleted it. It transfers photos quickly with no problems. I want to know if anyone else has had this problem. I am using Windows 7.

I really love the app. It makes working with and transferring files a breeze.

p

Tried installing on my touch pad says it can't open MIME type files. Anyone have this problem.

just installed it last night - I can move files from my XP laptop to my touchpad but not vice-versa. When I click on the "network" icon it does not show what is on my TP for me to just drag and drop onto my laptop. Any suggestions? Thank you for this app and for sharing your expertise!

Installed and works like a charm on a Windows machine.

Installed Samba and Wifi File Sharing via Quick, they installed but Network only shows the laptop I'm working from and the computer I'm networked to, nothing else. Do I have to root my Palm Pre for this to work? Or is it not working because I'm networking to my main computer from the laptop I'm working from?

Any help really appreciated...

hello, this app. works for a pixi?

regards?

I've used this a few times with my W7 PC and love it. My only complaint is that I was expecting to see every folder on the TouchPad, but I don't. I would like full access to folders such as /usr/share/systemsounds/, etc. But even with root set as available, writeable and browseable, they aren't displayed when I map to the TP. I'm in developer mode and master mode is set on in Internalz. Any suggestions?

I tried wifi sharing before. Just a question, is this safe? Will my files be protected? Kavin Austin Blake

When I install by WQI 4.3.1 on Pre 3 WebOS 224, it's error: "package dependencies not satisfied".

Just installed it on both my Touchpad and my Pre2... works flawlessly.

Needed a reboot, but that was expected. Tested by transferring a 410MB video file to the Touchpad... editing a music file (fixed the id3 tags for a song), and all worked great!

If I had know about this before, I wouldn't have had to bother with other software that never worked all that great.
